Just thought I'd join up here and say Hi Paul! And Hi Alun! Brilliant gig on Saturday - was a pleasure to see you in action! And of course, thank you for being a gent and offering your bass rig!
Helloooo No problem at all with the rig - I enjoyed what I heard of your set ( had to nip out and hunt for my lost girlfriend at one point! ) Cheers Alun
 3. Mmmm, this may not be the best place to post this if you want people to effectively pay to fill spaces on a course. Cheers Alun

 7.
Is there much you can do on as Stick that you can't do on an extended range bass?
The biggest advantage I can see is the tuning. The lowest string is in the centre of the neck with the bass side tuned in 5ths towards the outer edge and the treble side in 4ths. As a result, your hands move away from one another and there is much less risk of collision than on a regular bass or guitar. Cheers Alun
 8.
Dave Holland has done 2 cds of solo bass (Emerald Tears and Ones All) but I am not sure if he ever gigged solo.
I have a bootleg DVD of him playing a solo gig somewhere - very good it is too. Didn't think I'd enjoy 35 mins of solo upright but it's great.
There's a guy in Newport, S. Wales called Andy Long who is trying to nail this kind of thing but I have only heard one piece that was badly recorded?
I know Andy, he's playing some very interesting stuff. There is an MP3 of me doing a duet with him on "Blue Monk" on my website...http://www.alunvaughan.com/Monkmix.mp3 Cheers Alun
 9.
And it's nice to see a thread here that isn't remotely related to tapping or double thumbing...
You could always double thumb/tap them
 10.
Took my dog to Ponty Park today, the Jazz was rained off then?
Yeah, the river burst its banks and flooded themarquees I should have had two gigs there on the Sunday. Cheers Alun
 11.
It wasn't Jim Lampi, was it? He used to play on the doorstep of Rose Morris in Denmark St, and has a few albums out. He hasn't done much busking for years, though, since he's been backing John Martyn.
I supported him a few months ago - great player I've always fancied a go on a Stick but it hasn't happened yet.One day! Cheers Alun
 12.
That's nice, innit! Good stuff all round. From what I have heard Alun, the praise is deserved... ped
I'll give you that brown envelope at Bassday
 13. Well it makes sense up to the end of "AC/DC" What a very very odd listing!!!
 14.
What did Trip say, Alan? Is it repeatable? ;0) ped
He said... "As an all-emcompassing statement, the players who make me want to BE them are Percy Jones, Mick Karn, John Taylor, Nick Beggs, Alun Vaughan, and I loved Squarepusher from the first time I heard it." I was, and still am, enormously chuffed Cheers Alun
 15.
Check out the retail page Thanks Gary
I pity the poor stalls opposite Bernie Goodfellow - he was relentlessly deafening last year.
 16.
Anyone heard of Trip Wamsley?
Trip is a wonderful bassist and a lovely person. I even have a quote from him on my CV
 17. Cool. As much as I like him, I've seen Adam before but never seen TM Hotel and ticket booked, looking forward to it Cheers Alun

 19.
The was a guy over on Talkbass, who is from this side of the pond, who does solo bass stuff. I seem to remember a picture of him playing a Warwick Vampyre in a shopping centre.
That'll be Kev Cooke, fine bassist and singer. I have done a couple of instrumental solo gigs and they're always fun but nerve wracking Cheers Alun
 20. What a lovely bass. Any chance of some soundclips? Pretty please? Cheers Alun
 21. Welcome from Swansea There are quite a few South Wales folk on here. Where are you based? Cheers Alun
 22.
Bitter experience lets me tell you to hold the cool end.
+1 to that
 23. Not sure what's happening with the Singleton these days - they keep starting and stopping music. Jazzland in the Uplands is great on Wednesdays for jazziness
 24.
My wife is a Bargoed girl, her family are still there too, lovely people, I lived in Henry St for a while....and I still play in The Hanbury
Let me know when you're next in the Hanbury, I'll try and just happen to be visiting her that night Although as I haven't drunk for a year or so, she might see through my "let's go the pub" suggestion Editted for useless typing!
 25.
Hey ARGH! get yourself down The Office in Swansea for some Rock/Metal bands, not sure who's there shortly, I'm there in a month though! Hang on.... it might be Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Either way it's a good gig generally.
The Uplands Tavern also do music most nights from jazz to metal.
