London Bass Guitar Show - 7 & 8 March 2015
Silvia Bluejay replied to bassguitarshow's topic in Events
I should be there on both days, taking photos of absolutely everything and everyone. I will be wearing my Basschat lanyard, and I look more or less like my avatar, so if you see me, come up and say hi and have your photo taken for my customary ginormous LBGS blog -
Tweeted as Basschat. I hope you'll recover the gear.

No Warwick stand at the LBGS this year, I'm afraid. Confirmed by Hans-Peter.
Dear Silvia, its true we will not be attending the London Bass Guitar Show this year. Due to the fact we are busy with the Ladies BassCamp and we will not be able to properly coordinate both events. Best regards, HP.
-

I could always pester Hans-Peter on Facebook and nag him until he gets a small stand at the LBGS and sends in a few basses ... -

I see your point - Retailers have to make a selection of models from each company, as they can't bring their entire stock. I imagine, though, that if there are more than one big retailer at the show, we may have a reasonable choice of models to try. I attend the show for the masterclasses and performances as much as to ogle the gear, and i haven't been disappointed so far (20+ years attending what used to be called the London Music Show, then the LIMS, then the LBGS). -

I'm in touch with Steve and Sara of Blaze Publishing, and put some of the doubts expressed here to them. This is what they said to me:
Be assured we are doing all we can to ensure there is a varied and extensive range of exhibits for our visitors to peruse when at the show. We are aware that some 'big' names are not there in their own right, but we have a number of retailers planning to come to the show who will be having a range of stock on their stands. So, for example, there may not be a Fender stand, but I'm sure the retailers will have some Fender product at the show.
-

I love that! Pity they only make it in righty models. Slightly off-topic, but I'd like to mention the thread I've created about the problem with my Corvette's bridge. Pics 'n all - here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/255630-fixing-a-dodgy-brige-on-a-2010-korean-warwick-corvette-pro/ And big thanks to Liam (Bartelby)

I thought it might be of interest to those who have a similar model, or indeed a similar problem on a different bass, if its bridge is similarly shaped. Big shout out to Liam (Bartelby) for coming to my rescue with the donation of an extra grub screw for the bridge and some spares I may well need if I need to strip the bridge again. (Those fixing screws clearly aren't designed for repeated assembling and disassembilng.) Unfortunately I haven't got a photo of the bridge as it was originally, all out of alignment with the surface of the body, one side sitting far too low in the socket and another side wedged against the socket itself, to make it stand prouder, with no grub screw. The end result was OK in holding the strings in place at an acceptable height, but the whole caboodle would have collapsed anyway the moment I attempted to change strings. So I got rid of the unwanted roundwounds and disassembled the bridge. Since it was sitting too low in the socket, some padding was needed. This is packing foam. Now with the spring removed from the saddle of the low B string All done! (Minus the grub screw at the lower corner on the side of the G string) And then Liam sends me his bass-saving kit! Now I may even find some time to actually play the bass!
Hi Bluejay, I had rounds on the corvette to add a little zip to the sound for heavier music. It still didn't work out for me on that particular bass. As much as I tried to make the corvette a blues-rock bass, it wants to be a jazz bass and flats probably would work better.
I don't use rounds anymore these days, so I tend to use the EQ on the bass and/or on the amp to get a suitable sound for the song I'm playing. Personally, I'm happy with the Corvette for rock, but I do see your point about jazz as well.
Maybe it's a fretted/fretless thing. Do they use a different fingerboard wood on the fretless as opposed to Wenge?
Tiger ebony on mine.

That sounds good, Barrie, and thanks for providing some actual facts. We no longer have a Warwick rep on board to answer even simple questions, so your info matters even more now.

This is what their website says:
As in previous years, tickets for the main stage performances will be made freely available without charge one hour prior to the commencement of each performance. However, show visitors will also now have the option to purchase a ticket for a main stage performance upon arrival at the show for £5 per ticket.
-

I think I already said a few pages earlier on this thread that there must be something wrong with the pricing structure for both exhibitors and the normal public. But while I see that an extortionate entrance/exhibiting fee may deter ordinary punters, small companies and/or companies selling cheaper accessories etc., surely companies the size of Fender et al could afford a stand no matter what? If instead it's a matter of this show not being seen as prestigious or helpful from the marketing and publicity point of view, then we're in a different kind of trouble. -

POLL: Music pubs near me are changing
Silvia Bluejay replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
I think we're beginning to see a split between London and The Rest Of The Country. Quelle surprise. Either Londoners are so spoilt for choice they end up not going anywhere and instead staying at home to watch something from Netflix, or they think that going to music pubs is sooo last century, dahling, or London councils are so cash-strapped they will find any excuse to close down pubs and sell the land to developers to build luxury flats for Middle Eastern and Chinese absentee buyers. -
I imagine it will be a matter of quality control. I struggle to think that a bass with a bridge mounted the way I describe above would have been given the go ahead for shipping, had it been made in Germany. The non-functioning fretted bass I got last year, when I bought my first Korean Pro Series, which had a faulty knob and no output at all and which I had to return to Thomann for exchange, may actually have been the result of QC issues as opposed to being mangled in transit. Even the one I got in return, and love dearly, had a defective strap button and I had to replace the screw with a larger one.
