2.
I had to do that on my 'vette too. Thought it might ave just been me.
You're not alone. I asked the question on FB (I've got lots of BCers there too) and I was told by many who use 5 stringers with flats that the problem is all too common.
3.
Mmmmmmmmm ... intonation.
I'm ready to get rid of the spring on the low B's saddle on this one too, if that's what you're referring to!
4. Here with its fretted "twin" I got a few months ago. More and better photos to follow once I've replaced the rounds with D'Addario Chromes
5. It's just worth remembering that current/contemporary Warwick necks are as thin as those of any other make. They were thicker only for a short period in the 1990s IIRC.
6. I own a Rockbass Corvette 5 fretless, and I'm waiting for Thomann to deliver me another, this time a Corvette Pro. If you are a fan of the Warwick sound, which I definitely am, and don't mind them being a bit on the heavy side, their fretless models are every bit as good (sound-wise, quality-wise and playability-wise) as the fretted ones - and the fingerboard is usually ebony
7. Thomastik-Infeldts for very low tension and typical flatwound sound. D'Addario Chromes for low tension (but not quite as low as the TIs) and much brighter sound. All the other makes I've tried so far are too high tension for my hands.
8. Hello Odyseus, and welcome to Basschat from another late starter! The more experienced and the teachers among our fellow Basschatters will probably add their much more informed opinions soon, but my two pence is to forget about books and online lessons, and save up for even just two or three one-to-one lessons with a good bass teacher (not a guitar teacher who does a bit of bass on the side). That money will be the best bass-related investment ever, believe me, even if you end up deciding that it's not for you. Playing with a pick is neither recommended nor discouraged. A plectrum will sound different from your fingers, and will suit certain styles and types of music better than others. If you find it easier to play with a pick, go ahead, obviously, but also get the abovementioned good teacher to show you how to play fingerstyle in an efficient, non-tiring way. And my advice would also be to ditch the IMO horrid Vox headphone amp as soon as you can afford to, and get something more expensive but better (just ask here and you will receive lots of pointers to better equipment!).
9. Will do
10. Only joking, it made me smile I'll tweet this meetup and the goodies again tomorrow (I tweeted it before you announced the addition of BC merch).
11.
Bass hat the next to step up and have donated some polo shirts which is very much appreciated.
"Bass hat"? At least your typo doesn't read "Asschat"...
12. Perhaps using a preamp will help and be less of a hassle?
13. As per Happy Jack's reply:
14. First gig of 2015, at The Six Bells in Brentford, last Sunday 4th January.
15. More Tap On The Line action, on Sunday 14th December. The gig ended with the entire room dancing madly, but I only have a couple videos of that, and no photos.
16.
Having never been, I don't know how many suppliers/manufacturers/importers are usually there, but wasn't the issue last year that there was another show on either at the same time or just before?
Yup, the Guitar Show in Birmingham - exactly the same weekend as the LBGS 2014.
17. New Years Eve gig at The Ash Tree in Ashford: https://flic.kr/s/aHsk3RmPR8
18. Aw, DB, thank you! I don't know the answer to your question, and I hope someone from the LBGS will be able to shed some light.
19. Unless the problem of the high cost of exhibiting at the show is addressed by the management, it won't be easy to attract as many exhibitors as we'd like to see there.
20. The pub only started to have live music a few months ago, and hadn't found a band they wanted back for NYE before they saw the Dogs and fell in love with them!
21. Christmas shenanigans at The George Inn Walton on 20/12/14:
22. Hi Vail, and welcome to Basschat! On Basschat we don't ban people for having an opinion, we only ban them, after a series of warnings, if they breach the Terms & Conditions and the Behaviour Guide, so feel free to join in, become part of the community and discuss anything music-related or even non-music-related, as long as you stay within the rules
23. Often it's a deliberate trick - they want you to notice the cover over hundreds of others in the same newsagent, which they seem to have achieved, even just by irritating you.
