1. I'm doing some research on left-handedness in music, to be posted in a dedicated blog (currently containing only a holding page, I'm afraid: http://wp.me/P4hMGq-1). This article mentions some of your questions - I aim to provide a platform for our discussion when my page is up and running: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/left-handed_guitarists_the_famous_and_the_facts.html And there's always the obligatory Wikipedia list, of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_musicians_who_play_left-handed Watch this space - I'll give you all a shout when I'm up and running
2. Well, I will be wearing my BC lanyard, and so will many other BCers visiting the show. I will also have a number of lanyards with me, which I can give to those who still haven't got one
3. Good stuff. I'll tweet the bash as soon as you've finalised the details
4. Haha! Great stuff, presented with a sense of humour too! Love it
5.
DFA switch, DFA button: A control, button or switch that doesn't actually do anything that gets pressed or turned in response to a request for a change in sound or tone from someone who doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. Always gets the response, 'that's much better, thanks'. DFA = Does F*ck All.
HAHAHA!! Brilliant
6. I've just retweeted your announcement and will keep plugging the vote to exhaustion
7. Hi Geoff, and welcome to Basschat. Afraid I can't help but, if you have received no answer tomorrow morning, I'll tweet your request for info to our followers, and tag Carlsbro in the tweet. I'll repeat again after the weekend if nobody replies.
8. Jason "Ex Metallica" Newsted in his Newst3d project, and Gene Simmons on several Kiss songs...
9. It's a closed group so you'll have to be added - this (I hope the link works): http://www.facebook.com/groups/panicbuttonbands/
10. I've just read the whole of this book, which is clear, exhaustive and well written. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Sound-Operators-Handbook-Guides/dp/1617805599
11. I'll be taking lots of photos as always, too - of people and GAS-inducing gear, possibly at the same time Oh, and of course we'll also organise some sort of "Not-the-LBGS event" at some point, for those who can't or won't attend the show
12. Nationwide good, Mastercard bad, very bad.
13. They show them to you in £ on the website, but they charge you the equivalent in € on your credit card.
14. Needless to say, we want to see photos of absolutely every stage, Tom! Sounds awesome
15. Yup, still a good credit card to have for Europe (it does charge you more for using it outside of Europe though).
16. True, but I think you can get forms to fill and then get the maths - and any refund - sorted at Customs.
17.
looking at the cover of BGM on the LBGS website, is it just me, or do Dave Swift and Jack look more alike as time goes by?!?
Let's see which one of them is first to be mistaken for the other, then. It's bound to happen, right?
18. LOL true, no extra taxes when buying from Europe. Am I correct in believing that, in theory, you could get their VAT off the price and re-pay VAT on arrival of the bass in the UK, but that would only be worth the hassle if their VAT percentage was a lot higher than ours. Keep an eye on the Sterling to Euro exchange rate and buy at the best moment, if you can keep your GAS under control
19. Anyone mentioned Stingray5 (Steve)'s prog outfit, Landmarq? We saw them recently at the Peel in Kingston and I'm still in awe of their musicianship. Oh, and the songs aren't bad either! http://landmarq.net/home.htm
20. I am so going to make sure I see you at some point, Steve. And there are also proggy masterclasses to entice you http://www.londonbassguitarshow.com/masterclass/colin-edwin-of-porcupine-tree-and-lorenzo-feliciati/
