1. Forgot to add, Jerry will be playing live with Jenson Bloomer and Mondo Carne again at Stourbridge on 15th March 2014. Aw, go on, allow me to post that photo from his gig of 5th January 2013 once again
2. Thanks for this, Dave. I hadn't seen it shared among my FB friends yet, so I've posted the link on to Jerry's FB page.
3. Brilliant, Nige - thanks. Could you please add your BC name in brackets to the thread title, so that it looks like the other ones in this forum? As soon as I am given mod rights on this forum too, I'll unpin all the threads and do admin properly
4. Happy Jack's helpful suggestion re. West London was Arch Studios near Stamford Brook tube station. He says they will allow people to book more than one rehearsal room or even the entire first floor, and they're not too expensive. http://www.archstudios.co.uk/ Similar ideas in other parts of London welcome, obviously
5. I really don't see why you should subject yourself to torture by upside-down instrument when there are lots of good, relatively cheap lefty models around. Ibanez and Warwick (Rockbass) spring to mind.
6. Welcome to the fold, Sammers and Virtue! Luckily for us, nowadays lefty models from most big names aren't exceedingly hard to find.
7. Having a lefty bass strung the wrong way up is no more normal than having a righty strung the wrong way up. It's possibly slightly more common due to those poor souls who are left-handed but only have/had a righty bass turned upside down to learn on. All the lefty guitar or bass players I know in person have the strings the right way up on their instruments.
8. I'm not allowed to do that here - or I would. sorry. Edit: I've asked the other mods to look at it.
9. Inspiring stuff indeed. We had ended up at the Triumph Brewery almost by chance after asking if there were jam nights in town, and we were blown away by the quality of the musicianship there. (When we went back the following night we also met and admired double bassist Jason Fraticelli and drummer Tony Flagiello, among others.) The jam night has moved away from Triumph since then. Nah, I didn't get up, Funkgod - I wouldn't remotely have been good enough to even simply stand on the same stage as those guys, let alone play with them. Conveniently, there was no left-handed bass to be borrowed, so that was my excuse... I'll have to do a search on jam nights in London and see if I can come up with something. From what I understand, Elliott isn't looking to walk into a large-scale paid gig, only to play a bit with like-minded musicians and make a few friends this side of the pond.
10. I met Elliott at a popular jam session evening in Philadelphia last March. He has just let me know that he'll be in France at the beginning of December and would like to stop in London if he can find some performance opportunities. So I need the great Basschat collective help - any ideas we could explore? This is the man: http://www.jazz.com/...-elliott-shalom http://simpletone.co.../elliott_levin/ Thank you all in advance for any help
11. That bass is a complete and total turnoff to me. Horrid.

13. It's my pleasure, Myke - and thanks
14. Yup, great tone, great response, and thank god there's such a brilliant alternative to the intolerably boring P-sound.
15. The one I played at their NYC custom shop - a normal Corvette 5 Standard, 2012 model I think - was small, thin-necked and not too heavy (although Warwicks aren't famed for being featherlight, unfortunatley).
16. I'm getting the impression that Warwick are concentrating on their US market, as well as their German home market. When I spoke to the reps at their LBGS stand last March they actually said they were going to try and improve their position in the UK market - but I imagine they will also have to stop demanding that resellers stock a large number of extremely expensive models no-one can afford before allowing them to become distributors. I only have Rockbasses but the Corvette 5 GAS hasn't gone away. So far I've only bought new (from Thomann, when Sterling was strong against the Euro). Then again, I'm a leftie and most of the time have no second-hand choice. Unfortunately the Warwick_Official account here on Basschat, previously run proactively and helpfully by Garey, has been dormant since he left the company.
17. Here's another immigrant who's celebrating the 20th anniversary of her landing in this hallowed country with a one-way ticket in her hand, and exactly two years since joining Basschat. (And I started playing bass when I was over 40.) Welcome Aalam, you're certainly not alone here, from any point of view
18. It's two years on BC today for me, folks! Aren't I doing well! A huge thanks to the whole of this community for changing my life for the better. Here's to many more yearly updates to this thread!
