1. I've just spoken to Lars, and he's fine with the bass being with James on 24th, and he'll let us know about Dave and Guy when he's been able to talk to both of them (Guy being in Australia at the moment). We were also talking about writing another press release while all this is happening or just afterwards - we both had the same idea at the same time So for the moment, we rock on as planned! \m/ \m/
2. Milton, thanks. As for the relay's schedule, I know as much as you guys and no more, because Lars is still negotiating with Guy and Dave. I have emailed Lars letting him know of James' meeting on Aug 24th, but for the moment I have no reply. I will obviously let you all know as soon as something moves. As for the press contacts, I would still wait. It will/would look better if we could have a newly re-written press release including names and photos of the stars with James, as opposed to jumping the gun and getting in touch now.
3. I would love all this to work out in such a way that James can make not just his meetup with Mark King and Andrew Levy (obviously), but also the one with Dave Swift and Guy Pratt in London. At the latter, you bet I'll be taking my usual billion photos and GBs of footage!
4. At least you'll be able to reassure me and tell me it's not that bad after all, in a few months' time

6. LOL @ Peter! Yes, let's not forget that, while the stars do bring in glamour and recognition and good publicity, there are many not so well known bassists who have taken part in the relay and are no less talented or less deserving of praise than those who've hit the big time.
7.
Yep, big thanks to Lars too. Ok, I'm going to need the bass on the 24th
I'll make sure to mention that to Lars when he comes back with possible dates for the London meetup.
8. Also, don't forget that Lars Mullen is also working to make sure that the bass is played by Guy Pratt and Dave Swift some time in the next few weeks somewhere in London - let's keep that in mind too.
9. Brilliant. Thank you James for your hard work, and also huge thanks to Donald, who got us in touch with Rhino in the first place, and was instrumental in creating this latest opportunity too. Edit: just seen the addition of Mark King to the list of Relay stars! Excellent. Time to write another press release?
10. It was Walman who thought about having a vintage corner, not Kiwi
11. Click on the photo, it will open in an enlarged view - the bass definitely has 5 strings and 5 tuners, so I imagine it's a low B that's needed here, not a low C PS Welcome, defcom!
12. We'll tweet the blog then! Could I ask you to repost those pics on here in the meantime, please?
13. If anyone has any photos of the bash, please post them here and I'll tweet the thread again for us and our followers. Steve, you posted a couple on Twitter yesterday, were they from the bash? I didn't retweet as I wasn't sure.

15. Yes indeed. And Lars has confirmed in a post on my FB timeline that putting the article in Music Industry News is indeed his work
16. We are hoping to keep it in London or in the immediate vicinity until at least the SE Bass Bash, so there shouldn't be any prob I'm still waiting to hear from Lars about the date(s) for the meetup with the two star bassists. I will let you know as soon as I receive any info.
17. Yay! I've just tweeted this, and the number of guests reading this thread has seen a sudden spike
18. Will do! Wait a second and I'll edit this post. Edit: here it is! It's from Music Industry News and I think we can thank Lars Mullen (this being only the start of his work!)
19. YAY!! Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh - er, wood... Porn thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/214200-nbd/
20.
Interesting that you've had volume trouble with your sfx, I've used mine with a variety of basses, active, passive, cheap, not so and haven't ever had to have the volume above half before hurting myself...what headphones are you using? They may be your weak link? I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD280 and while not overly bass heavy they nearly always sound natural and adequately loud and clear...?
I use a variety of headphones, but most often a big Behringer pair and a smaller Sennheiser model. At the moment I'm also spoiled because I'm using something even better than the [sfx] thingy - a full-fledged Rolls (which is a lot more than just a headphone amp) courtesy of Happy Jack, who is unlikely to get it back unless he grabs it off my hands and runs away...
21. Don't get the Amplug - it's crap... so is the Pocket Rockit. I remember having a moan about both on an old thread on here. Unfortunately you get what you pay for. The [sfx] on the other hand is good, despite struggling a bit with output volume to the headphones when used with my bass.* Edit: * as in cheapo Rockbass - more expensive instruments and/or electronics will probably fare better.
22. Right, let's leave aside the cleanliness issue (!!) and get back to the Baton's travels. A little background to our current work: Although we appear to have got nowhere with my press release when I initially sent it to those papers I mentioned a few pages earlier, at least we (as in the BCRelay team with me acting as PR) have got in touch with journalist/PR Lars Mullen through Donald (Donnyboy). Lars is fully behind the project and is working extremely hard behind the scenes to help us get our article in one or more music magazines, and also to put us in touch with two well known bassists who have agreed to get involved and be photographed with the Baton. Since these stars are currently busy, the plan at the moment is for Tim and Gary to go ahead with their gigs as planned, and then make sure the bass stays in London for the foreseeable future. (I'm happy to give it shelter and a bit of TLC while it's resting between gigs!) That means - if anyone else in London has a gig in the next couple of weeks or so and would like to get involved, now is the time to make yourself known. Another good idea would be for us to keep the bass in London until the South East Bass Bash on 21st September, and take it to the bash. It would be awesome to have the Baton played by all of us - well, except Throwoff and me, that is, unless we give it a go upside-down! We would also make sure to ask any VIP guests to have their photo taken with it. And then the intention would be to create as much social media buzz and exposure as possible. So - Tim, Gary, the Baton is all yours, and then we'll wait for someone else to step forward
