1. Excellent! If this is final, 64k, could you please amend both the thread title and your initial message so that it shows the details? (Presumably the complete address will only be divulged to participants by PM.) You can edit a thread you started by going into your first post and using the "Advanced Editor". When all is done I'll tweet the thread to our followers. I won't be able to attend, I'm afraid, both because it's a bit out of my way and because I have another commitment anyway, but I'm happy to spread the word to the BC community and beyond
2. I'll be getting the £8 two-day ticket because there are several bands I'd like to see, and they're spread throughout the weekend. I will be wearing my BC lanyard, so if anyone I don't yet know in person spots me, feel free to stop me for a chat! I'll bring a few spare lanyards for those who don't have one yet and would like other BCers in the crowd to see them and say hi.
3.
Oh no he didn't! He'd pinched a bar stool from round the corner and perched several times during the first set. After I commented on his flourishes during the break, he stood for the whole of the second set, and each time he played a flourish he made a point of swinging the bass towards me so I could see what he was doing. Maurice is an absolute gent, delightful guy and a great player. I genuinely wish I'd taken (surreptitiously) my H2 recorder. Some of the licks he tossed in were things I could happily spend evenings trying to re-create.
So it appears I was soo damn busy trying to follow his hands that I didn't even notice he sat down! I recorded a few songs on the camera, so we may have some of his flourishes on disk.
4. Maurice chose to stand for the whole of the gig on Monday. Also, he may be laid back as a person but his bass playing is as lightning-fast as Bill's guitar playing, and we couldn't take our eyes off his hands, in an attempt to learn how to spectacularly spice up even the most potentially predictable basslines
5. Ha! Maurice and that bass, again
6. Right, I have sent out our press release to the following publications today. Some are pretty obvious targets, others are a bit in the "yeah, keep dreaming" league, but it doesn't harm us to try anyway. Bass Guitar Magazine (I know they've covered this before, but they may reprise...) Guitar And Bass Magazine FACT Magazine Q Magazine The NME The BBC news website The London Metro and the Scottish Metro The London Evening Standard The Independent The Times The Sun The Express The Mail The Mirror The above are those I was able to find an email address for that accepted news bits and press releases from the public. Some of the quality papers clearly do not want anything to do with whatever the public may wish to send to them, and make it especially difficult for anyone not in the know to discover the correct contact to email. So it's their loss Now, that press release I've written is suitable for any type of newspaper or magazine; as per PR rules, it's just one page of text, it's concise, it contains two embedded photos and two quotes, and it's meant to serve as an appetizer for any journalist who might be interested in covering our story. In that case, the journalist would contact us for more details and original files, and I would pass on the details of those involved and happy to talk to the press. If anyone of you guys has local media contacts they would like to pitch our story to, please feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to send you the PDF document of the press release to forward to them. The more, the merrier, and the higher the exposure. Thank you all for your help and support, and special thanks to James, Milton, Donald, and Peter.
7. Apologies guys, I was out for the evening - just back from an awesome gig in Oxford. The furious pressing of the Send button will happen tomorrow morning after some further tweaking of that press release. And then we'll keep our fingers crossed
8. Good stuff. Now she has an email, a tweet and a voicemail from me and messages from you, Donald. If neither of us hears from her, tomorrow I'll send out the press release. Thank you all for your help!
9. Guys, if you think Emma will be all right with that, I only have to press Send in a series of emails. I'm sure it's only good publicity for her, but it would be best to have her word. However, we are on a tight schedule because the silly season is well under way, and it's our best opportunity. I can include the qualities and bass magazines in the mailshot - no prob. Shall we say we wait until tomorrow morning?
10. Haha, find a guitar-playing bassist, then Jokes aside, I think we would have liked to have a guitar in the jam room at the Herts Bass Bash. Playing chords on a bass isn't ideal.
11. In that case don't forget to get a guitarist too

13. Bump! I hope they'll let me in with my non-DSLR camera.
14. I'm planning to be there both days, probably late afternoon to evening. Anyone else going? http://www.ealingsummerfestivals.com/events/blues-festival/ There will be at least a couple of bands with BCers on bass
15. Apologies, Rich - I thought I had entered your name in the list. Must have been all our random talk about Latin declension that got me muddled up
16. Relax, guys, it's summer, people are on holiday or planning to go, and may have their minds elsewhere. Give the relay a bit of time. This being the silly season is one of the reasons why I'm trying to pitch the story to the press asap - they may be more inclined to print something like this than at other times of the year.
17. It's not about the format but about the characteristics of the publication(s) in question. End of thread derailment! If anyone knows Emma in person and can contact her on my behalf and speed up the process I'd be grateful
18.
Haha! I just think it's kind of shooting yourself in the foot if you said to a newspaper "Here's a story for you, check out this thread" and in that thread, you say something like "i'm not sending it to the really good newspapers, because I don't think they'll be interested" Never the less, it probably doesn't matter. I'll try not to overshadow Peter's and those who attended the open air concert's remarkable contribution.
Hey, "Quality newspapers" has nothing to do with my opinion of any publication, it's actually very precise - if perhaps jargon-like - term that denotes a certain group of newspapers, and is widely accepted and used in the field of media. Same for middle of the road and tabloid. Honest - look them up
19. Oh, absolutely, she's credited in the photo itself and in the caption I've given it in the press release. If any journalist is interested in the story, they will ask for the original files for publication. It would be great publicity for Emma too

21. LOL Milt, "quality", "middle of the road" and "tabloid" are the latest bit of jargony definitions I've learned, don't shoot me down like that
22. This is all fantastic! And it's all happening as James, Milton and I have just decided to try and pitch the national press about the BC Bass Relay. Reaching the first fundraising milestone is the perfect opportunity. I have written a quite professional-looking (if I can say so!) press release which I'm going to email to the middle-of-the-road and tabloid newspapers - but not to the qualities, as I somehow don't think the Guardian, the Times and their like would have space for our story. I have embedded two photos in it, one of which I own, while the other belongs to the professional photographer who took it in Falkirk where the baton was signed by Rhino of Quo. I have asked the photographer for her permission to use the photo, but she is on holiday and hasn't read my email or my tweet to her, so that's basically what we are waiting for. Once that is cleared, it'll be all systems go, and we hope that at least one paper will take up the story. If that happened, the results could be awesome! I may also pitch the London Evening Standard and the Metro, but a national newspaper taking it up would be best
23. YAY! If you decide on a date, let us know so I can tweet it to our followers like I do for the other meetups and bashes.
24. Will be great to meet you in person, Simon, and Timmo, and any other bash newbies who can attend! It's going to be great fun and eminently gas-inducing
