1. I received a question through Twitter - does the post count include hidden posts? (I imagine it does, but I promised I'd ask! )
2. The impression I'm getting from this thread is that our membership is clearly divided into those who consider this site as a community, and don't mind giving their time and/or money just as a thank you for being part of it, and those who look at the forum mostly from the utilitarian point of view of shifting gear at the best possible price and don't seem to assign that much value to pure "bass chat", banter, advice, etc. The latter group is clearly a bit miffed at the newly introduced fees. Basschat's owners, admins and mods are having to deal with two forces pulling in roughly opposite directions, and that can't be easy if, as they're doing at present, they try to keep both of them more or less satisfied.
3.
I imagine the bandwidth is fairly hefty, and there's development costs.
Plus not indifferent everyday maintenance costs, up-to-date and beefed-up security, normal organisational and admin stuff, you name it. Those of us who run their own companies will nod in sympathy and could add a few more items to this list.
4. Thank you Chris and Steve and Colin and Dan and all the other admins and mods for giving us a home! Tweeting the excellent news as we speak. The low end is on the up!! \m/ \m/
5.
Thanks, we're looking at Drumchat.co.uk too. We're working with our developer now and just in the process of getting a rough estimate of the costs. We'd like them all to be a single sign-in so you can sign into any of them and use all three. As many of us play more than one instrument we thought if that's possible, it would be pretty cool. Also we're looking at updating, integrating and centralising the blog across all three sites with filterable content and the possibility for users to post their own blogs in addition to the 'official' BC/GC/DC ones... Exciting times ahead, I can't wait until the school holidays so we can start cracking on it properly!
That's brilliant, and I've just tweeted it. Ped and all others working on this, please keep us posted and, obviously, give us a shout if we can help in any way.
6. Love the photo, Andy! I'm also in the same club as the happy owner of an NXT (mine's a 5er). Just to show that I do have my own Basschat T-shirt now, in the correct size an' all ( ), another pic, this time from November 2012. There are several more photos of me in action wearing BC lanyards and holding posters and whatnot in my LBGS blog (link in my sig if you're not already sick of it!).
7. I haven't sold or bought anything in the Marketplace here yet (I tend to buy new from shops, what with liking shiny new things and being a lefty etc.etc. etc. etc. ....) but I have donated money twice and given lots of my time on an ongoing basis - and I still feel I'm the one who's in debt to BC. Go figure...
8. I agree. But I wonder, in practice, how BC (the mods or all of us, the membership) can stop that, once email addresses have been exchanged by PM.
9. And how many "unofficial" deals are made by PM when someone posts on non-Marketplace forums about "just wondering how much this bass/cab/amp/effect might sell for"?
10. Googling a bass-related question on what was at the time google.co.uk. The first results page was all filled with links to this site - well done whoever manages Basschat's SEO, guys Took a little while for me to have the courage to sign up, but it's probably one of the best things I've ever done
11. Thanks Nige! Glad you like it. I love blogging about our meetups. So when's the next BC Bash, guys?
12. Sounds good. I'm on Dropbox already and I can join in whenever. I have a few photos taken at the LBGS, if they can be of any use.
13.
String it lefty and let the left handers have a go?
If anyone fancies that, I guess it can be an option. I won't try it, though, James - I simply don't get along with an upside-down non-symmetrical body, and also, I'm not a gigging bassist anyway. As I said above, I'd be happy to cover the online PR, photos and blogging for any gigs or other news I can get to.
14.
It will get down to you soon enough Sylvia - you may have to come to another DB masterclass to pick it up in person !
LOL and then keep at home it in its case, waiting for the next taker, as I can't play it cos it's a righty
15. And if/when anyone finally gets the Baton to a west London gig, yours truly will be delighted to take photos and vids and blog about it.
16.
I've set up a Twitter page for the relay https://twitter.com/BassRelay We now also have a dedicated email address
Excellent. @basschatuk is now following it and will retweet \m/ \m/
17. Happy to plug the Recording section as a whole on Twitter - as opposed to [s]spamming[/s] continually reminding our followers about the Comp Comp and the Mix Comp Let me know if that can help. What I make a point of avoiding on BC's Twitter account is promote every single release or band gig by members. That would fill up our followers' feeds, irritate them, and also open us to criticism of the "you plugged his gig a lot but didn't plug mine enough" kind.
18. A big welcome from Basschat's chief left-handed activist, Matt!
19. Can't think where I've seen a lefty bass like that on this page before...
20.
Casting couch
LOL I gave away quite a few lanyards at the Herts Bass Bash (as well as at the LBGS), and I've got some left - so another way to get one is to attend our next bass bash
21. Aww! I'm tweeting it as we speak.
22. Jealous Welcome to the Warwick lovers club. And very soon, I'm sure, you'll also join the 5-string Warwick lovers club. Just listen to that low B!!
23. Thanks Jack! And of course a mere lefty-stringed instrument is not going to stop you grooving on bass, is it?
