1. And, Thumbs sound awesome. Still prefer the Corvette shape, though.
2.
Said the man that recently visited a Warwick factory and considered buying one
It was all my fault...
3. Oldskoolfender, have a look around these two subforums - even if your songs are not there, you could ask some of the guys who posted their transcriptions to help you with what you need. http://basschat.co.uk/forum/41-groove-library/ http://basschat.co.uk/forum/31-theory-and-technique/ Welcome to Basschat - and good luck
4. Bump! I've put it on Facebook too. See you all there
5. If all that happens, it's going to be absolutely awesome! I've been tweeting the bash throughout the last couple of months. We could do with a shout out on Facebook too - I'll see to it tomorrow (not now - better choose a time when people may be online, while at the moment most will be either in the garden with the BBQ or watching the telly or out and about.) Thank you again, guys, for your hard work organising this.
6. Although we Chiswick BCers are neighbours of sorts with Bruce, and often spot him in local pubs, we don't have a direct contact for him, I'm afraid. I would second the idea of emailing their PR through Maiden's website. I'm sure they'd be happy to help.
7. So how many of us are coming, Mick? Hopefully enough to at least cover expenses...? Would be lovely to see the admin team in full at the bash too! Colin, Chris, Steve, will you be around?
8.
It's a bit of fun basschat, that's all. It won't affect the sales of Rickenbackers one bit. In fact, if it does anything it will publish the name ... in an "any publicity is good publicity" kinda way. You have a good site Ped. No question ........... but whatever basschat says or does about any brand of bass, other than the real man in a shed operations, will have zero effect on anything.
Hmmm.... I do not agree one bit, and nor do my teachers/mentors at the business courses I'm taking in reputation management, PR and marketing through social media (of which discussion forums are a big part) and the internet in general. Not to mention that general common sense suggests such things do matter, a lot, in these "always connected" times. However, please don't take this thread off-topic by trying to refute what I say. You have your opinion, I have mine.
9. I'm going in any case, whether as Basschat's rep or not, and I hope I'll see you again there, Lozz, together with as many other BCers as possible. We'll make another massive BC meet-up out of it, one way or another
10. Welcome, Magne. We have a small Norwegian contingent on the forum, I believe. I'm sure they'll turn up and say hi. Oooo, a Rickenfaker - make sure you never try to sell it on this site! (Have a look in the Bass Guitars subforum.) Geezer Butler - good stuff. Metal (in general) - excellent stuff. Les and Jaco - brilliant stuff.
11. Hello west London neighbour, and welcome! Plenty of friendly advice on here, for beginners and advanced players alike, so do stick around, and ask the community if you have any questions - there will always be someone either in the same predicament or able to help
12.
Read the post above yours Silvia. Apparently "all" the stuff
I had missed that last sentence! But Jack does carry quite a lot of THE STUFF anyway, so it's not strictly true
13. Ah but Jack, you usually have yours truly to help with the carrying of stuff...
14. It's less than two weeks away!! And I'm tweeting it like mad!! Come join us!
15. Damn, if we were having a decent spring this would have been the perfect excuse for a quick Edinburgh break. As things stand, I'm being made jealous - and tempted to book a flight - by my Florence connections who are basking in hot sunny weather. The festival sounds awesome all the same, so if any of you Basschatters are in Scotland, make a point of popping down there. And take photos All the best to those of you who are exhibiting or performing.
16. LOL feel free - how could the chronic complainers have their say about the LBGS if nobody slapped? They'd have to complain about their favourite retailer not being there, or the volume of the performances being too loud, or God forbid, they'd end up actually enjoying the show too much otherwise. Thunderbird, AFAIK there are no age restrictions at the LBGS, so if your son is prepared to put up with the inevitable noise, I'm sure he'll be welcome. You could get him a pair of decent earplugs, to be on the safe side. I hope Basschat will ask me to represent again next year
17. Thank you guys! Good stuff. Love the other videos you have on you channel too, but it's a pity Stu Hamm's masterclasses aren't there, probably because they're a few years old. Keep up the good work - I'll see you in the comedy/music room at the George some time, if you happen to organise something there
18.
We can blame the internet. These days it's much easier to find out information on our idols / celebrities. Growing up in a small town in the 80s magazines like Kerrang and Sounds really did offer a window into another world. These days it's all pretty much out there so interviewing is harder to get a scoop.
This. And also, possibly, the fact that our attention span is much shorter now that we are used to taking in so much information at the same time from so many different sources, and in-depth articles are probably - sigh - wasted on us
19. Haha, I still have a stack of Kerrang! and Raw magazines from the late 80s-early 90s, and they bring back all kinds of great memories, musical and otherwise. There are some articles in them that puzzle me now, because they are pervaded with a sexist attitude which should have been in the dustbin of history even by then - but we're talking about heavy metal, after all... I don't think I could ever eBay those mags. With the mag came awesome, large posters too - and I've grown old with those bands, most of whom are only a little older than me
20. Can't make that I'm afraid, but I'm sure it'll be equally awesome!
21.
I'm not going to suggest a brand. I'm going to give some criteria to consider: 1) laminate neck for stability and elimination of resonances and dead notes 2) lightweight tuners, like Hipshot, Schaller or Gotoh to further reduce neck dive 3) longer upper horn to balance the bass better 4) 2 (B&E) + 3 (ADG) tuner arrangement to give more room for the B string so it doesn't bind around the tuner post or the nut 5) the "neck" pickup in the same relative location as the D-G segment of a P-bass pickup so there is the proper balance between fundamental and overtones 6) good, clean electronics, because "thump" does not equal fundamental and "growl" does not equal the clarity needed on the B string The bottom line (pun intended) is that a 5-string is its own instrument. It is not just a 4-string modified; worse, most 4-strings modified sound, feel, and play badly.
Best advice so far.
22. I'm totally looking forward to the day
23. Thank you soo much Dan. I can't help being irritated by things like that, especially now that the BBC test has called me a Grammar Guru
