1. STOP THIS! I'M GASSING FAR TOO MUCH FOR COMFORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2.
But then often I hear that under different circumstances...
3.
The current mrs discreet inevitably says 'That's nice, dear' which lacks sincerity imho.
She's probably not a musician herself... and in any case, hearing that is better than hearing 'That was a bit sh*t, dear, wasn't it'
4.
My girlfriend has sat in a couple of rehearsals last year. Her two comments to me in the car on the way back were "You are really bossy, aren't you?" and "You need to relax and smile more...don't be so miserable!". Both comments wound me up. I replied to her "I consider myself to be assertive, not bossy" and "I need to concentrate on what I am doing and listen out for the other musicians". Anyway, that sparked an argument. Things like that I can't be doing with. Okay, we have little disagreements in the band during rehearsals and gigs...I'm not denying it, but nothing that warrants 3 days of silence or maybe a projectile kitchen appliance aimed at my head when I get back home!
LOL, some of us band WAGs have perfected the art of attending rehearsals and being supportive, and only expressing opinions when asked. I've always been welcome, in fact invited to rehearsals with all the bands my ex partners played with (not just by the partrners but by the bands). So I agree, it takes a particular kind of girlfriend to be involved at that level and not get on everybody's nerves within 30 seconds. That doesn't mean she's not a good partner in general, just not in this case.
5.
0/10 for spelling! Or, 10/10, depending on how you look at it.
Oh my, I had noticed that and hoped Mark wouldn't...
6.
I think it's easy for many of us who have been here a while to take Basschat for granted. Basschat continually evolves, and changes, through it's members' contributions.
I wasn't here in the early days of this forum, but I agree with Nige - there are many more BC members now, from a larger geographical - and therefore, on occasion, cultural - area than before, and the community is evolving. There are also more trolls, because they appear to be a relatively fixed percentage of any online group of individuals. Overall, though, as almost everybody has pointed out, despite a few glitches, we're way ahead in terms of respect for each other than most other forums!
7. I agree with BigRedX. I'm not talking from personal experience here, but I've been around bands for most of my life and seen it all. Two points of view to consider: a - the relationship within the couple. My opinion is, if they really get along as a couple, they should get along as musicians, provided they like more or less the same kind of stuff and their proficiency levels are more or less comparable. b - the couple's relationship with the rest of the band. If "a" above works fine, there shouldn't be many problems, unless either member of the couple is a dominant figure in the band and starts trying to impose their other half on the band, for instance giving the person more solos, or creating space for their instrument where the songs require none, etc. In most cases, since both point "a" and "b" are rather difficult to obtain, having couples in a band is tricky.
8. I want one too! I've got the Rockbass Corvette 4, as mentioned above, and I can confirm it's good stuff. Haven't even changed the pups on it. I'm now gassing for a Warwick Corvette 5 and will probably loiter and drool a bit at the Warwick stand at the LBGS Since I'm left-handed I tend to buy new, as it's quicker than wait for a suitable 2nd hand model on here.
9. We're hoping to make the show/meetup well worth while for BC members to travel! Hope to see you there
10. Rotosound is one of BC's advertisers.
11. IIRC, mine is all padded. I can see and feel a large rubber gasket between the plate and the instrument, and I think the screw inside has some sort of padding too, to avoid squeaks and rattles.
12. James, I would try contacting one of the BC admins to see if they can ask companies to help on your behalf- asking as Basschat, and mentioning our website/Twitter/Facebook channels will probably get more attention than asking as yourself.
13. If the BC Relay comes to the LBGS (which should happen, as James is organising his trip) I'll be happy to take photos and also videos, if we find somewhere that allows us to plug in and play the bass. [Keeping in mind that we won't be allowed to do anything more than play literally a few notes.]
14. I'll do my best to catch a glimpse of most masterclasses and performances, between one BC meetup and another, as well as gassing like mad at Warwick... I'm hoping to end up with one hell of a photo blog at the end of the two days
15. Garey! All this GAS already, and still nearly three weeks to go Will you be at the show too? Would be lovely to have a small Warwick forum meetup at the Warwick Distribution stand, while we're there.
16. ... and, when in doubt, if it's rock (or trad metal) it's very likely to be in E minor
17. Get a fretless Jokes aside, if I don't want to bother using software to get dodgy sounding songs back to normal, playing fretless (5er in my case, cos I just love it!) really is the quickest solution.
18. I've had a look at the masterclass and live performance schedules on the LBGS's website, decided which ones I want to attend, and then come up with a few suggested meetup times, just for us all to have some sort of schedule to work with: NB - edited post - these are the most recent times I've scheduled - BC CORNER @ the LBGS (in the foyer, next to Bass Gear) Saturday 2nd March 11:30am - 12:30pm 2 - 3pm 4:30 - 5:30pm Sunday 3rd March 10 - 11am 2 - 3pm 4:30 - 5:30pm
19. Same here. Not sure we'll hear about the course again in ther near or distant future. Pity.
20. LOL - I waited to see if anything would happen when my post count hit 666, but no, nothing of note, not even Maiden on the radio Anyway, congrats on your thousand - it's good to be an active member
21. I've tweeted this - will retweet nearer to the date
22. Clarky had the good idea of writing on Danny Thompson's wall on FB, asking about the course, and I joined in - here is the exchange:
(Clarky) Hi there! Any news of replacement dates for the double bass residential course, Danny and team? (Silvia) I was going to email Bree this coming week! I would be grateful for any info too. Danny Thompson Unfortunately no date in the near future. You will be the first to know if anything does crop up! - Bree
Sigh.
23. I've only got 3 left, and they look like this (with Ped's contact details on the back):
