1. That's what I'll do with sunday's ticket if I have no other choice. See you there!
2. Please see this thread! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/198710-basschat-the-london-bass-guitar-show/
3. Thanks for the official announcement Chris! It's going to be fun. I will be there from first thing on Saturday morning, set up, and have a list of meetup times displayed on the table. I'll choose the times so that they don't clash with masterclasses and performances by star guests. I'll be at the BC corner at those times, to meet other BCers, and I'll also make sure I pop down to the corner regularly outside those times, unless I'm attending a masterclass or performance myself (David Ellefson, here I come!) [s]Now I need your help: I am looking for a ticket for Sunday, and I'd be grateful if anyone could remind me which of you guys on here - or which stand at the show - sells tix without a handling fee... cos that would help with finances etc[/s]. [Edited - I should now be sorted for this, thanks to the guys at Bass Gear] I hope to see as many of you as possible at the show!
4.
I'm going on the Monday with my metal detector.
In that case you should be there on Saturday at 10:30am. Plenty of pretty damn heavy metal with David Ellefson
5. Wow, that would be awesome, and I could take and post photos of many BCers playing it, as opposed to just Nige and maybe one or two others in West London. Hope that can be organised.
6. Hi James, I've liked that page and i'm going to tweet it to our followers. Thanks for all your hard work! Re the graphic for the page - I or Ped can send you better quality ones that fit the spaces on the page better.
7.
Nice one, with the Facebook and twitter links, are we talking the BC ones, or dedicated relay ones?
I imagine it would simply be the URL (and possibly FB page and Twitter handle) of the paper(s) you're getting in touch with. Depending on how local or small they are, they may not have FB or Twitter at all. If they do have a presence online, Jellyfish and I can mention their URL (etc.) in our posts/tweets, and link to their articles about the Bass Relay.
8. Whoever contacts the press or other information services, please remember to give them our web, Facebook and Twitter addresses and to give us (Jellyfish and me) theirs, so that we can cross-reference, tag each other etc., and spread the word further. Well done guys, good progress so far!
9. I'm not going to attend all masterclasses either - but I know I'm going to spend a lot of very dangerous, GAS-inducing time at Warwick's stand, as well as meeting as many Basschatters as possible (details to follow). And obviously checking out all the other vendors. I should probably leave my credit cards at home.
10. I wouldn't define David Ellefson as a techy muso, TBH. Nor Peter Hook.
11.
I play all 5ers (I have 3) and for me, it's not really about the Low B (I often use the low D, but rarely go below) - it's more about the technique of playing across the fretboard rather than up & down it. It enables me to figure out a way to play a song & then, if the key needs changed, it's easy to simply move that pattern up or down the fretboard. String spacing on a 5 or 6 is always going to be narrower than on a 4 - you have to deal with it or go back to 4s. I have a fairly small hand and I don't have fingers like sausages so that helps. Certainly, more amplification would help you. As you probably know, each octave you drop demands twice the power to maintain the same volume, so the low B needs a fair bit of power and suitable drivers to cope. G.
This.
12. On Warwick basses made after 2010 the bridge has a new, two-piece design that can handle thicker strings if necessary.
13. Love my TIs on the Corvette 4 - glad it's not only me having to loosen the truss rod and also raise the saddles to avoid buzzing. (No, I don't dig very hard, it really is because of their low tension, which I love.) I'm also intrigued to hear that the their low B sounds so good. I bought my TIs as a set of 5, but couldn't put them on either of my 5ers because the low B is too thick for my old-style Warwick bridges, and I'm left with a new low B waiting to be used sooner or later. I'm now gassing even more strongly for a new-style Warwick-not-Rockbass Corvette 5 to try it on
14. Welcome, Andy! We do love metal here, although I personally am still living in the 80s-early 90s and into trad metal, i.e. I can strech to tuning down half a step but hate even that (pace early Metallica...). And yes, we Warwick addicts are pretty jealous of you Germans! And if you live anywhere near Markneukirchen we're going to be absolutely livid Dive in, Basschat is a lovely place.
15. I may be able to help you by doing my disgruntled-punter-complaining-that-they-can't-hear-themselves-trying-out-new-gear, if I can find who to complain to at the show!
16.
Hey, I will be there on the Saturday, managed to get an early bird ticket for Christmas. Any idea what time the early birds are allowed in? It doesn't say on the website or tickets!? Would be good to meet up with a few people, will pop along to the BC stand to say hi.
My understanding is that "Early bird" was the name given to those tickets that were purchased before November 12 2012. They don't allow you to get into the show any earlier than anyone else. (Mine's one of those too.)
17. Wow, I've been following this on Robin's FB profile, but forgot to check this thread. Fantastic sequence of photos and absolutely awesome bass. And lots of GAS...
18. Happy birthday Jerry! Keep rocking as awesomely as ever!
19. Similar problem here with RB Corvette 5 fretless with lovely, bright D'Addario Chromes. I now use a compressor, which for my home-practice-only work (I don't gig) sounds fine both in headphones and on my practice amp. I have two other Rockbasses with active pickups, and they don't need a compressor, although they still sound good if I do use one with them.
20. I'm actually subscribed to the gigs subforum, which means I get an email every time someone posts a new thread. That's dedication, huh? And yes, I've been to quite a lot of gigs by BCers' bands. My problem is the lack of own transport, which means I have to miss a gig if it wouldn't be safe or possible for me to get back home on my own.
21. Bump. Even if it may be too far to travel for some BCers, others may be able to attend.
22. So am I, how weird...
23. Tweeted. Thanks Chris.
24. They still have a banner ad on this site. Would be worth finding out if yours was an isolated incident - if not, I think potential buyers should be warned. Edit; I mean warned by the admins, not you, ead, you've done your bit.
25. In fact, it's being rather hit-and-miss. Now back to the error message. I'm just pointing this out for the admin team, since the blogs contain advertising.
