1. Seems fine for me too, now - thank you Ped and the rest of the admin and coding team. I'm only still missing the line that states how many users/guests/anonymous users are online at every given moment!!
2. Ped said on FB that the front page was hacked last night. Site was taken offline for 7 hours. It's now back, but some bits are still missing from my FF16.
3. Strikingly beautiful, and quite intriguing... wonder where on the fingerboard you press to produce a low C? On what looks like the second fret, I imagine, not the (apparently) tiny little space above the low F, or is the space actually wide enough to be fretted?
4. I agree. That's not "live music", it's only one step above listening to a CD or your MP3 player. It may be a nice little earner for the musician involved, though - no bandmates to share fees or have rows or musical differences with, very little equipment to shift from one place to another... all in all, pretty sad. If I was going to a place because I'd been told there was live music, and found that, I would walk out after a few minutes, unless the guitarist was soo absolutely fantastic to force me to stay and listen to their every note.
5. Apologies for slipping into professional software tester mode - I'm going to mention a small glitch regarding comments to other users' status updates (right-hand column on the home page): On my FF16 the comment box and the text in it doesn't disappear - indeed doesn't seem to do anything - after I press the Comment button. However, the comment does get posted, and becomes visible to others. This glitch caused one of my comments to be posted 5 times (I deleted the redundant 4). We need the comment box to change appearance, or disappear altogether, after the comment has been posted. Thanks!
6. Good to see today's progress, with the addition of links to the right-hand column. I'm still missing the latest thread on each forum though Also, reminder... could we have a Follow Us On Twitter button as well as the FB one? Thank you all again!
7. Back to Mustang Sally - Help is at hand courtesy of iGuitar on FB: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=450333478362149&set=a.395673980494766.91587.100001565010436&type=1&theater
8. Aw, I love a happy ending. Soo glad ot see it was easily fixable, Clarky! You were really worried last night; as far as your performance on stage is concerned, though, you needn't have been. You'll have your usual DB back for next gig then!
9. It's just occurred to me that I may have been unclear on what exactly I mean. See this post: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192054-the-new-look-of-bcs-home-page/page__view__findpost__p__1870427
10. I still can't see the list of users online in FF16, while those on other browsers - and Ped on his FF - can. It's not important obviously, I'm just going on about it as it may mask deeper problems in the code. To clarify, I'm talking about the one line of information in the format "xxx user(s) online, xxx guest(s) and xxx annonymous user(s)" which sits just above the long block list of names of the members who are online. I can see the latter but I can't see the former.
11.
That only appears on the main homepage, it's still there (at least at the moment)
Only for IE users, apparently. Nothing on FF16.
12. Two observations - personal taste, of course, but mentioning them in case they are unplanned by-products of the software upgrade that went unnoticed. a. Please bring back the column that showed the most recent thread and poster next to each subforum. I feel orphaned without it! b. Please note that in Firefox 16.0.2 we have lost the users-currently-online counter at the bottom of the home page. We only see the list of members who are online, just below the links for moderating team, day's top 20 posters and overall top posters. And thank you all in the admin team for your hard work!
13. I'll be adding a post to the Site Issues forum then...
14. Not on my Firefox... What are you using?
15. Incidentally, through the software updates we've just lost the guests/members/anonymous users count at the bottom of the home page.
16. It was a great gig! Thank you Clarky and the rest of ATQR! The West London Basschat Contingent was out in force and we absolutely had a blast. I took 5 videos and lots of photos - here are a few of them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluejay_my_photos/sets/72157632010073327/show/
17. Welcome, C! It's great that you've made a living as a session musician all these years - I'm sure many of us would love to do the same. This is a very informative site full of welcoming and helpful people - get stuck in! PS at the moment you're seeing fewer of us online because the mobile version of this site is down for updates; all should be back to normal tomorrow.
18. Yes it looks good, but I'd love to still be able to see what's the most recent thread in each subforum, and its most recent contributor, as before. I'm missing that. Oh, and obviously the blogs have disappeared (but I'm sure the admins know that).
19. Status update for Basschat on Facebook, from Ped, about an hour ago (5.36pm on 14/11):
Hi Basschatters. Whilst we work on some site updates you might see the mobile theme being a bit up and down tonight (mostly down) but it should be all working tomorrow. Cheers, ped
20. Ped has announced on FB that they are working on some site updates, and that especially the mobile version will mostly be unavailable tonight. Things should be back to normal tomorrow.
21.
Sorry, I am a prick/snob/music facist, and the song just sounds like the furious dying ticks of the desperate 49 year old single womans bilogical clock as she drops her handbag at the front of the stage and dance/grinds out a silent plee that someone in the pub/function will consider her worthy of sneaking out on at 7am. Sorry.
Hope tongue in cheek, otherwise load of stinking sexist crap... As for the song, I've never been a big fan of it, but the punters (women and men) like it and dance to it when it's played, and request it when it's not played. If, as a band, you go on stage primarily with a view to entertain, then you should not exclude it from your setlist just out of sheer prejudice.
22. Oh, I wasn't aware of that... sorry again. PM replied to.
23. ... or was I seeing things? The new Classifieds section taking the place of the blog entries list on the right looked neat on the streamlined home page, although it left no space to display the name and avatar of the last poster on each thread, which is a pity I think. I'm only commenting on the overall look, not the functionality as there were no entries under any of the test categories when I clicked on the links.
24.
Shoegaze???????????
Caught me by surprise too, when I heard the name for the first time.
Shoegazing From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Shoegazing (also known as shoegaze) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It lasted there until the mid 1990s, with a critical zenith reached in 1990 and 1991. The British music press—particularly NME and Melody Maker—named this style shoegazing because the musicians in these bands stood relatively still during live performances in a detached, introspective, non-confrontational state, hence the idea that they were gazing at their shoes.[sup][1][/sup][sup][2][/sup] The heavy use of effects pedals also contributed to the image of performers looking down at their feet during concerts. The shoegazing sound is typified by significant use of guitar effects, and indistinguishable vocal melodies that blend into the creative noise of the guitars.[sup][1][/sup] A general description given to shoegazing and other affiliated bands in London in the early 1990s was The Scene That Celebrates Itself. In the early 1990s, shoegazing groups were pushed aside by the American grunge movement and early Britpop acts such as Suede, forcing the relatively unknown bands to break up or reinvent their style altogether.[sup][1][/sup] Recent times have seen a renewed interest in the genre among "nu-gaze" bands.
Welcome to the forum, Anton!
