Yes it looks good, but I'd love to still be able to see what's the most recent thread in each subforum, and its most recent contributor, as before. I'm missing that. Oh, and obviously the blogs have disappeared (but I'm sure the admins know that).

Silvia Bluejay replied to hollywoodrox's topic in Site News
Status update for Basschat on Facebook, from Ped, about an hour ago (5.36pm on 14/11):
Hi Basschatters. Whilst we work on some site updates you might see the mobile theme being a bit up and down tonight (mostly down) but it should be all working tomorrow. Cheers, ped
-
PROBLEMS WITH BASS CHAT 'OWN PROFILE' ???
Silvia Bluejay replied to Gordon Thudmaster May's topic in Site News
Ped has announced on FB that they are working on some site updates, and that especially the mobile version will mostly be unavailable tonight. Things should be back to normal tomorrow. -
Sorry, I am a prick/snob/music facist, and the song just sounds like the furious dying ticks of the desperate 49 year old single womans bilogical clock as she drops her handbag at the front of the stage and dance/grinds out a silent plee that someone in the pub/function will consider her worthy of sneaking out on at 7am. Sorry.
Hope tongue in cheek, otherwise load of stinking sexist crap... As for the song, I've never been a big fan of it, but the punters (women and men) like it and dance to it when it's played, and request it when it's not played. If, as a band, you go on stage primarily with a view to entertain, then you should not exclude it from your setlist just out of sheer prejudice.

PASS IT ON: WAY DOWN, the autobiography of Jerry Scheff
Silvia Bluejay replied to Happy Jack's topic in Recycling
Oh, I wasn't aware of that... sorry again. PM replied to. -
... or was I seeing things? The new Classifieds section taking the place of the blog entries list on the right looked neat on the streamlined home page, although it left no space to display the name and avatar of the last poster on each thread, which is a pity I think. I'm only commenting on the overall look, not the functionality as there were no entries under any of the test categories when I clicked on the links.
Shoegaze???????????
Caught me by surprise too, when I heard the name for the first time.
Shoegazing From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Shoegazing (also known as shoegaze) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It lasted there until the mid 1990s, with a critical zenith reached in 1990 and 1991. The British music press—particularly NME and Melody Maker—named this style shoegazing because the musicians in these bands stood relatively still during live performances in a detached, introspective, non-confrontational state, hence the idea that they were gazing at their shoes.[sup][1][/sup][sup][2][/sup] The heavy use of effects pedals also contributed to the image of performers looking down at their feet during concerts. The shoegazing sound is typified by significant use of guitar effects, and indistinguishable vocal melodies that blend into the creative noise of the guitars.[sup][1][/sup] A general description given to shoegazing and other affiliated bands in London in the early 1990s was The Scene That Celebrates Itself. In the early 1990s, shoegazing groups were pushed aside by the American grunge movement and early Britpop acts such as Suede, forcing the relatively unknown bands to break up or reinvent their style altogether.[sup][1][/sup] Recent times have seen a renewed interest in the genre among "nu-gaze" bands.
Welcome to the forum, Anton!

Why, oh why did I get meself on to ebay with a real account at last, and decide to start reading these threads on BC? Between this thread and the Maya P bass one I've been laughing out loud to myself for the last 20 minutes - without logging on to ebay at all, of course. I'm lucky i don't work in an office...

D'Addario Chromes and Warwick bridges?
Silvia Bluejay replied to Ben Jamin's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've got two Rockbass 5ers (one active, one passive) with D'Addario Chromes and love them. Their sound is bright, even the B string (when I finally managed to fit it into the effing hole in the bridge, by stripping it of the silk), even after several months of use. They are low tension - which suits my hands fine - but not as low tension as Thomastik-Infeld strings, for instance. Thumbs up. Incidentally, if you shop around you may find them slightly cheaper than £45 I think. -
Clarky's lot (ATQR) headline Half Moon, Putney on Weds 14th November
Silvia Bluejay replied to Clarky's topic in Gigs
So it's got to be knitting needles, not a copy of Moby Dick! -
they were among the first patches I downloaded!
I wouldn't know where to start if I was playing a 6er but that is gorgeous. My 5s are enough of a handful (no pun intended) already! But yes, if I ever happen to have some dosh to spare, I could do much worse than throw it at Letts with an order for a nice lefty 5er...
As a bedroom player, you need 3 rigs and 5 basses. Minimum. It's the rules, ya know.
three rigs and SEVEN basses, if you play upright - cos you need at least two of those as well. All in the bedroom, of course.
-
Si, you absoutely need to add to the list - even if you don't use them with the Dogs - a Kirk-Hammett-style-mosquito sound, and a Dave Mustaine-style-angry-wasp sound, or your metal cred will be seriously dented... \m/ \m/

Clarky's lot (ATQR) headline Half Moon, Putney on Weds 14th November
Silvia Bluejay replied to Clarky's topic in Gigs
Wonder if I should wear my nautical outfit, and perhaps bring a copy of Moby Dick with me? (Don't answer that...) -
Oh. My. God.
That's easy, disown them and keep the bass
Welcome Glenn! When you find you way around here you'll see that this site is a veritable treasure trove of bass-related info, and that everybody is extremely helpful should you need guidance. So dive in and enjoy! PS I do not think that being a bedroom player is sad in any way. I don't play in a band, but don't see myself as being sad at all, just probably far too shy

Welcome, Seb! Post away, we're all eyes and ears! And keep the metal faith, of course!

Make sure he/she isn't a leftie, before buying anything, though... Edit: forgot to congratulate you and your wife!

Am I the only one who's lost the blogs column on the right?
Silvia Bluejay replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in Site News
I assume that the column has been hidden while its by now infamous code page problems with quotation marks and similar special diacritics are being fixed, maybe... -
I haven't updated or modified my Firefox (16.0.2) since yesterday, but today the column space to the right of BC's home page is blank, while it was occupied by the blog entries list until last night. Anyone else having the same? Edit - forgot to say that I can still access the blogs through the tabs at the top of the page, but it's less immediate. Also, re. the tabs, the About/Contact Us tab does not appear on the home page any more.

CARDIFF BASS BASH DATE CONFIRMED SAT NOVEMBER 10th
Silvia Bluejay replied to gelfin's topic in Events
Great to hear you guys had a lot of fun and you're already planning the next meetup! Post photos if you have any! Deb - Re. acoustic basses: you may also have realised that, besides being huge per se, they are somewhat incompatible with having breasts - no matter how small - and that they are therefore best played while standing. In that case, you don't need long arms, your usual ones will suffice I haven't been able to find a way to play my acoustic while sitting. Not that it matters, though, since the bass is so light.
