1. Why, oh why did I get meself on to ebay with a real account at last, and decide to start reading these threads on BC? Between this thread and the Maya P bass one I've been laughing out loud to myself for the last 20 minutes - without logging on to ebay at all, of course. I'm lucky i don't work in an office...
2. I've got two Rockbass 5ers (one active, one passive) with D'Addario Chromes and love them. Their sound is bright, even the B string (when I finally managed to fit it into the effing hole in the bridge, by stripping it of the silk), even after several months of use. They are low tension - which suits my hands fine - but not as low tension as Thomastik-Infeld strings, for instance. Thumbs up. Incidentally, if you shop around you may find them slightly cheaper than £45 I think.
3. So it's got to be knitting needles, not a copy of Moby Dick!
4.
they were among the first patches I downloaded!
5. I wouldn't know where to start if I was playing a 6er but that is gorgeous. My 5s are enough of a handful (no pun intended) already! But yes, if I ever happen to have some dosh to spare, I could do much worse than throw it at Letts with an order for a nice lefty 5er...
6.
As a bedroom player, you need 3 rigs and 5 basses. Minimum. It's the rules, ya know.
three rigs and SEVEN basses, if you play upright - cos you need at least two of those as well. All in the bedroom, of course.
7. Si, you absoutely need to add to the list - even if you don't use them with the Dogs - a Kirk-Hammett-style-mosquito sound, and a Dave Mustaine-style-angry-wasp sound, or your metal cred will be seriously dented... \m/ \m/
8. Wonder if I should wear my nautical outfit, and perhaps bring a copy of Moby Dick with me? (Don't answer that...)
9.
That's easy, disown them and keep the bass
10. Welcome Glenn! When you find you way around here you'll see that this site is a veritable treasure trove of bass-related info, and that everybody is extremely helpful should you need guidance. So dive in and enjoy! PS I do not think that being a bedroom player is sad in any way. I don't play in a band, but don't see myself as being sad at all, just probably far too shy
11. Welcome, Seb! Post away, we're all eyes and ears! And keep the metal faith, of course!
12. Sounds fantastic! Please take photos and/or record something for the rest of us! I will tweet this thread again, with additional news, later today \m/
13. Make sure he/she isn't a leftie, before buying anything, though... Edit: forgot to congratulate you and your wife!
14. LOL! Mine has a looong strap, so that it sits in a cool, rock 'n roll position ( ), that's well below my boobs
15. I assume that the column has been hidden while its by now infamous code page problems with quotation marks and similar special diacritics are being fixed, maybe...
16. I haven't updated or modified my Firefox (16.0.2) since yesterday, but today the column space to the right of BC's home page is blank, while it was occupied by the blog entries list until last night. Anyone else having the same? Edit - forgot to say that I can still access the blogs through the tabs at the top of the page, but it's less immediate. Also, re. the tabs, the About/Contact Us tab does not appear on the home page any more.
17. Great to hear you guys had a lot of fun and you're already planning the next meetup! Post photos if you have any! Deb - Re. acoustic basses: you may also have realised that, besides being huge per se, they are somewhat incompatible with having breasts - no matter how small - and that they are therefore best played while standing. In that case, you don't need long arms, your usual ones will suffice I haven't been able to find a way to play my acoustic while sitting. Not that it matters, though, since the bass is so light.
18. Oh, sorry for that, I thought you would PM me your address and was waiting for that! I'll send the book over to you as soon as you do - unless you happen to be in London and would prefer us to meet up instead.
19. Hey, I've read that Edge Guitars list and relised I do all of that on all of my basses, without any fuss! BUT - aren't Warwicks clever in that they have an adjustable nut?? I mean, can't see why that hasn't been more widely adopted, it's a bit like all car makers only manufacturing manual cars with just Jaguar or BMW selling automatic models. Having said that, I have filed the nut (and also the bridge) of a righty upright and turned it quite satisfactorily into a lefty.
20. Have fun guys and gals! Take some photos and post them here for the rest of us... \m/
21. *feels deeply relieved at her clearly far-lower-than-BC-average level of GAS and far cheaper bass haul in general*
22. Some of us make donations despite never using the Marketplace... And the BC merch is good, by the way, and tees and polos now also fit women - tiny ones like me included. But yes, it's definitely a bit of a poor collective show to see that only 4% of those who make a sale contribute to the running of the site. Sorry I can't comment on the new vs old format as I don't use the Marketplace, but for those who do, it's excellent to have a thread like this to discuss and balance convenience for the admin team with ease of use for the membership.
