1. I've been tweeting this comp like mad, but I've had no quiet time to listen to all the tracks so far. Will try later, and cast my vote. Thank you all for taking the time to participate.
2. Oooo, I'm so jealous of someone who at the tender age of 15 plays jazz DB...! Welcome, Teegee! Feel free to pick Basschat's collective brain about anything - the guys here really are the fount of all bass-related knowledge. We also have a subforum entirely dedicated to double bass.
3. Welcome Rod! Afraid I can't help on Thunderbirds, but hopefully one of our experts will be around to help soon. Good to have you here posting after you've been a lurker - not the same as stalking! Stay with us and enjoy!
4. Dingus, I don't know you in person but I'm sure you're worth having and keeping as a hubby if only just for your sense of humour
5.
Agree. A mate of mine got together with a girl, and at one band practice stated she had told him he no longer needed to be in a band as he now had her. Now seeing as they met at a venue where his band used to play, and she used to watch the band, I really can`t work that one out.
The mind boggles.
6. Dunno, but my generic feeling is that, unless you're starving the family to buy gear, receiving anything more than a slight amount of GAS blockage (or nagging) by a partner implies you've got the wrong partner...
7. Bump! This thread may be useful enough to pin to the top, what do you guys think?
8. Regarding damage to the holes in the strap, two sets of these came with my Warwick RB Corvettes and they're pretty clever. The item on the left came already installed on my basses; the rest of the device goes on the strap and protects its holes, and the system is secure in that you can only unlock the strap by pushing in the button on the right of this photo. (Photo taken from http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_security_straplocks_bk.htm)
9.
sure is blackie lawless...awesome he pays warlock bass's too
The way he was - pretty damn hot and with no large bum at the time: That bass And, back on the topic of custom mike stands:
10. It was great to meet you too, Rob! You guys and your workshop are pure metal in all possible meanings of the word \m/ \m/ Keep up the good work!
11.
It's sorta nice... but it aint got a skeleton on it!
Is that Blackie Lawless of WASP? Not exactly the Junkyard Dogs' kind of music - or frontman - I must say
12. This one rates pretty high in the coolness stakes. Soon to be seen on stage at a Junkyard Dogs gig. It was made especially for Happy Jack by these guys: http://www.rebelmics....com/index.html
13.
I love the vid!
If you unleash me on your band at the next gig, before you know it you'll end up with several DVDs' worth of footage (ask Happy Jack... )
14. Aw, so happy you like the video, Nige. I'm a total amateur, and shooting videos when standing in the middle of a crowd isn't easy. At least nobody walked right in front of the camera stopping to blow a long raspberry at me - as happened during one Junkyard Dogs gig - and the guy who started going "Oh My God!! Oh My God!!" at the sight of a woman (yours truly) wearing a miniskirt and taking photos ( ) had left the room.
15. I've seen a few righty ukuleles at a music shop - some are perfectly symmetrical -at least on the outside - and can be turned upside down with no problems, but it's always necessary to replace or file/adjust the bridge and nut, although that didn't look like a huge job, given the relative thinness of all the strings.
16.
I'm still pondering as to whether to go on the Sunday as well as the Saturday..
Exactly! Hence my wondering who exactly is doing what on the Sunday. I know that I had to buy a ticket for Saturday, because I can't miss Dave Ellefson of course , but I wouldn't mind being at the show on the Sunday too, especially if any other BCers will be there and willing to meet up.
17. I know that opinions on the show vary, but I've always found it more than worth the ticket price if only for the masterclasses and mini-performances by the big names. This year there were so many I hardly had time to have a good look at the stands and meet up with other BCers for more than a few minutes! Bass stars aside, I like the opportunity to GAS, see new gear, collect info about what I might need in the future, and play or test gear (although that's the less satisfactory aspect of the show, given the noise and the crowds). I also believe that the big companies would one by one desert the show if we didn't support it. Some of the big names were notable for their absence this year, and the only way to attract them back is to make the show a big deal, go there en masse and make them feel they're missing out. As for being an exhibitor there, hopefully some of those BCers who were there last March will see this and give you their opinion.
18. I've just bought my Early Bird ticket for Saturday 2nd March 2013. I'm bumping this thread as a reminder, as the cut price tickets will only be on sale until 12th November 2012. Anyone know who the acts on Sunday 3rd are? The website seems to have been left rather incomplete.
19. Thank you all for your appreciation of Kit Richardson's set of photos! And thank you Nigel for reminding me to enter that comp before it's closed I've now entered the last shot of that set, which I like a lot too. I wish I could have included Nige in the scene, but the room was too crowded to walk far enough to fit everybody in.
20.
Really enjoyed that gig - nice pub, very friendly people, invited to turn the volume UP, twice, landlord got the diary out at the end of the evening and offered us two more dates on the spot. Outstanding!
Absolutely. The first time the landlord asked me to tell the band to play "louder" I genuinely thought he'd said "lower" (volume). That shows not just that I was incredulous, but also that the band was pretty loud already...
21. That doesn't sound like much fun, Ad... hopefully we'll see you, with or without the other Jetsonics, back in west London soon. On Saturday several musicians had trouble getting to their own gigs from other parts of London due to problems on public trasport. Kit Richardson actually have two violinists, but one of them only arrived in Chiswick in time to play on the band's last number. I recorded a video of that song but took no photos, hence only one violinist in the set I published here.
22. Incidentally, among the videos I recorded at this gig there's the one of the by now infamous Mustang-Sally-added-by-popular-demand
23. I haven't had time to look at and select the best among the whole series of photos I took, but I'll get down to that soon. I also recorded a couple of videos which will be on their way to Nige asap.
24. Thank you Beedster and Doddy for your replies, and everybody else for their info and opinions. This is a very intriguing thread.
