Quick note to remind you gentlemen that shoes, handbags and, yes, children, are not the only interests women have. And we're not stupid. Just sayin'. 😉

More bad news? PRS Tariff on virtual events...
Silvia Bluejay replied to Teebs's topic in General Discussion
Same for our songs on some rockabilly radios - although not all of them. Some radios broadcast both online and on air, others only on one medium, but my impression is that a good number of them are registered. -

You're correct. What musicians can do is scour Sentric's website for ads requiring music for various uses in ads etc. - there seem to be a few - and apply if appropriate. So the onus would be on us to do the legwork in order for Damo's music to be put forward. As you say, they're getting paid for us doing the work (or not bothering to do it), which ain't ideal. Damo doesn't have the spare cash to sign up to PRS, and at this stage we don't expect any significant earnings from his music. Things may change in the future - it's possible to leave Sentric, giving appropriate notice, and move to another company. -

Regarding playlists on the radio, I thought the ISRC codes embedded in each track direct royalties to the correct songwriter? -

My astonishment at how poorly organised this country is in getting setlists (from in-person or online gigs) registered with performing rights companies is undiminished since the last time we talked about this topic. 🤦♀️ Even if the music venues don't do that (they really should be obliged by law), all it takes is for one band member to spend a few minutes on the computer; in the case of a mostly unchanged setlist, copy and paste will take care of most of the work each time. Yet most musos can't be ar$ed. @Happy Jack and I helped Damo And The Dynamites' frontman sign up to Sentric, as opposed to PRS, mainly because they don't require payment of an upfront fee. They are mostly a publisher but also do royalty collection, and work out as slightly more expensive once you look at their cut on any earnings you get from your music. In our case, so far it would only be a matter of pennies, so we're not fussed. -
Or the sacking of the lighting engineer or camera person?

In other words: Band Discover That Sex Sells More Easily Than Talent. Whoopee do. Opposite sex equivalent, more or less? And - oldie alert - this was what I didn't mind ogling, around three decades ago - despite the person himself being a complete idiot (even then).

While that three-point bridge looks horrible, it certainly solved the perennial problem of keeping the bridge properly upright and at an angle of 90 degrees to the top of the bass! 😮😉

Effect of Covid-19 on nightlife survey
Silvia Bluejay replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
No prob! I'm not involved with that survey at all, but I do think that the more voices coming from our corner are heard by the powers that be, the better. -
Effect of Covid-19 on nightlife survey
Silvia Bluejay replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
Probably an estimate of the number of people affected, and an idea of how badly, and perhaps what could be done if it's not too late. I used the Consumer tab to give my replies, since strictly speaking I'm not in a band or depending on gigging to make a living. It asked what kind of places I used to frequent pre-Covid, how many times I used to go out in a week, how much money, on average, I used to spend in those places, and similar questions. I imagine the Freelance, Employee and Employer tabs ask different questions. -

Effect of Covid-19 on nightlife survey
Silvia Bluejay replied to Silvia Bluejay's topic in General Discussion
I've just done the survey, and was a bit taken aback by the request for a name, an email address and a postcode. However, I entered my info, and clicked yes at the very end to being contacted for further discussion. If they get back to me, I'll post their questions here and send them a humongous collated reply with a lot of comments! -
I've just spotted this article on the online version of the Evening Standard. And this is the survey they talk about. Anyone heard of/tried it?

I've tweeted this thread as Basschat. Good luck, hope it turns up.

All true, but before you even get to 30 mins of recording on a DSLR, you hit the 4GB file size limit - around 20 minutes of video, depending on your chosen resolution. So you never do manage to record uninterruptedly for 30 minutes anyway. We use two Zoom Q2n devices for unmanned recording (each with its own external battery pack). We have just added a Canon Legria to that team. On the DSLR (whichever I'm using for filming at any given moment) I make sure to only record for a max of 10-15 minutes, then start a new file. The Zoom Q2n non-4k and the Legria also have the 4GB limit, but unlike a DSLR, they continue recording in a new file automatically. The Zoom Q2n 4k creates one single, large file from the beginning to the end of the recording.

I have a Canon EOS 600D, my first DSLR which I have long superseded, and I must say, the video is fine, *when it does get recorded*. My camera seems to have problems staying on REC ON for more than a few minutes at a time. It always throws up some 'overheating, stopping recording' message at what are usually normal temperatures, both ambient and camera. First I thought it was the sub-par SD card (needs to be as fast and reliable as possible), but there wasn't much improvement with a new, faster one. It's not that it doesn't work, but it's very unreliable in my experience.
