1. Are we witnessing the marmite effect? Each of us either loves or loathes that model!
2. I am sooo jealous! One day I'll come to one of your bass camps, guys. Unfortunately this year it hasn't been possible. Keep up the good work!
3. LOL I tweeted about this (as BC) this morning, asking for opinions. It must have shocked everyone into silence, as nobody has yet replied
4. Can those of us who only play along to records be included in the question? I'm lucky enough to really feel at one with my bass when I know I've nailed a bassline - to the last damn note - and played it along with the record without making any mistakes. The feeling is massively enhanced when I play the same song(s) note-perfect on different basses, for instance my 5 and my upright 5 (not all songs are suitable to the latter). The good feeling makes up for all the hours you spent torturing your fingers and boring your mind on scales and seventh chords etc., and also for those days when you might as well be playing bass while wearing boxing gloves
5.
Does anyone know where one could buy the book? Amazon don't seem to have any.
Sarah Thomas's post No. 9 on page 1 gives the relevant link
6. Aww, all's well in the universe once again, then. This thread reminds me of my own experience with string buzzing - on the upright 4. Fingering a low C (on the A string) always produced a noise. So I dismantled the bridge, checked it thoroughly, cleaned it, added graphite into the grooves, cleaned the strings, made sure the tuning pegs were fine, then riassembled the lot. Now ALL the strings buzzed like mad! The cause - I finally discovered - was a loose tailpiece.
7. Sorry to hear you've been unwell, Chris. No hurry for this, I was just bumping the thread because the Double Bass forum was a bit slow in the last few days. Get well soon.
8. Sooo... we need to know who's been funny/weird enough to win this
9. The site was slow for me for a while yesterday, but it never got to the point of not loading at all. (Firefox 15.0 on Win 7 Pro.) I'll do all the pinging and checking if the site starts misbehaving here too, and let you know.
10. Great to see you, Ad! Lots of fun and dancing despite the mid-week scheduling. The usual few shots from last night:
11.
I've already told them I refuse to cover anything by the darkness
I think that should go without saying!
12. YAY for Charic! Way to go! All the best, I hope they'll call you back. Keep us posted.
13. Big props to this loving and lovely wife! I'm sure your hubby realises that he's a lucky chap Be prepared to see pleasantly surprised staff when you go to the shops with him. I remember buying an expensive EQ module as a birthday present for my ex a few years ago: we went to the store and tried a few, he chose the model he liked best, we went to the till and I produced my credit card, to which the (male) sales assistant said: oh, your lady's paying for it?? Me: Yes, b-day pressie, y'know. Him: Wow, I only get socks...!
14. The speed is more or less normal on my PC, at least at the moment.
15. Very interesting. At least two left-handed friends of mine, from catholic families, were forced by their parents to learn to write with their right hands (that was in the early 70s). Sigh. I suppose you can say that, in your case your fretting hand is your stronger one, so you may have the edge in certain cases... I know that, when I first picked up the bass guitar, I could hardly hold a righty one, while instinctively I felt more at ease with a lefty - so lefty it was. Then again, it was 2006.
16. YAY!! Now make sure that The Black Rat hiding behind that beer mat can't fall in...
17.
Although I'm left handed, I 'forced' myself to play right handed when I started playing bass, for the same reason that I though it would be difficult to find a good selection of left handed instruments.
Although that may have been inevitable at the time, I really hope that, now and in the future, an ever-increasing number of lefties will choose to play the correct type of guitar/bass, as that will allow the market to grow and lower prices and increase the availability of models. Having been taught to write with the "wrong" hand (my right) by mistake, and having hated the results for the whole of my life, I simply could not have forced myself to do the same on bass, and would not wish that on any other lefty, TBH...
18. I have a friend who, around 20 years ago, got a pick from her guitar hero - Yngwie Malmsteen - and actually had it made into a silver necklace she wore for most of the 90s Rock on! \m/
19. Many of us are deeply indebted to Basschat for practical help, moral support of a musical kind and also friendship and moral support of a more general kind. I'm trying to redress the balance by dedicating some of my time to help with our Twitter account, and I also made a couple of donations in the past few months (although I haven't sold or bought anything second hand so far).
Although Clarky sending me a pick from my favourite bassist is strongly stuck at the forefront of my mind every time I see it so a special thanks to you dude
David Ellefson? Or who else? Can we see a pic please?
20. So he started by building for himself only, then progressed from there. Double kudos. One of the reasons why I didn't take up bass guitar when I was in my teens (late 70s) was that there were no lefty instruments that my family and I knew of for buying, in Florence at the time.
