1. Yup, please do. I may buy a couple to add to the strings sets I'm giving to the raffle.
2. Sounds good! Will you be at the South East Bass Bash and maybe take some of the merch with you for us to buy there and then?
3.
I think the main issue is there are only 2-3 Warwick dealers in the country so it's really hard to try one out. I've not seen one in a music shop since 1994. One retailer I spoke to mentioned that Warwick needed them to buy quite a bit of stock, plus stock Warwick amps which was too big a demand for the average retailer. If this is true, then it would be great if these restrictions were lifted somewhat so that more places could stock Warwicks, or at least your Rockbasses.
I tend to agree with this - the last time I was able to see and touch Warwick basses and amps without having already ordered, bought and taken delivery of them from Thomann was at the London Guitar Show in 2010. There was a large, awesome, GAS-inducing Warwick/Framus stand with lots of everything they sell - BUT: they only had a couple of lefty models out of at least 40-45 models on show, and their staff were rather cold to this middle-aged female bassist. They appeared to struggle to believe that I could actually be interested in looking at the instruments in earnest, and asked whether the catalogue I requested at the desk was really for me. I quote: "So YOU play bass then!!??!" I'm a big fan of Warwicks for their look, sound and ready availability of left-handed models, but my visit at the time was in fact the lowlight of the show. I trust things will improve though, now that we are pointing them out to Garey and, through him, the company.
4. Quoting Lars Ulrich in the early 90s, when he was asked by Kerrang! Magazine "Who is your favourite keyboard player?":
What's a keyboard?
+1 Larsie babes.
5. I guess positioning a double bass safely requires an instinctive understanding of the laws of physics (centre of gravity and all that) and the total absence of bumbling punters and other musicians within 5 metres of the rig. But in the end, nothing beats a double bass for coolness, and Artisan's photo proves the point
6. Note to self: book a few days in Edinburgh this time next year
7. So, in the end I wasn't left alone, as Richard (Fat Rich) turned up, and we had a lovely afternoon chatting, exchanging text messages with Shelley in Edinburgh, and generally relaxing and feeling pretty hot (very much like everyone around us). So it's all good
8. I guess it also depends on whether the wood is stained, or oiled, or natural etc.? My basses too seem to need truss rod adjustment at the turn of every season - they start buzzing when it gets warmer/more humid and, conversely, develop an excessively high action when it gets colder and less wet.
9. OK, OK, if I find myself alone there, I'll wait for an hour or so and then set out on my own business...
10. Same here, I check tuning every time I play, and each bass needs re-tuning if the temperature or the humidity has changed noticeably since the day before. I think it's due to the combination of the metal strings slightly changing length due to the temperature, the truss rod changing shape and the wood reacting to humidity. And I believe it's normal, unless the changes in shape/tuning are dramatic.
11. Sigh - I had a similar comment a propos of a photo I posted here a couple of months ago, where I was suggestively (sigh...) holding my Corvette fretless 5. Look, I love the Corvette shape, and its being so small was one of the deciding factors when I chose to become a Warwick fan. I mean, I can't escape the fact - even my Corvette 4 looks bigger than me when I'm standing up
12. Another bump - Saturday's weather looks all right. I think I'm going to have an early lunch before I go out, just because it's easier for me to travel slightly lighter as opposed to carrying bowls of stuff on the tube. However, if anyone would like to bring food as well as drink, feel free - we'll make sure we won't beg you for bites unless we have food of our own to offer in exchange
13. I'm not sure if it's because I'm usually on 5 string or upright, or what, but when I'm playing the Corvette 4 its neck feels as thin as a broomstick to me...
14.
You mark my words. It will all end in a big argument where everyone will fall out with everyone else and no one will talk to each other for months all because someone took a comment the wrong way.
And that will be a conflagration on an even larger scale than usual, involving Facebook and Twitter as well
15. FB is managed by Chris (Jellyfish) and he did the sharing, earlier today. I'm waiting a couple of days before I do the same on Twitter, so as to avoid irritating those who follow BC on both FB and Twitter
16. Awesome. Thank you Garey. We have shared it on Facebook too.
17. The weather forecast seems to have slightly improved, so I suppose we can go ahead with this meetup as described in my post above. Please do check back on this thread (and Twitter) until the last moment, in case the Met Office dramatically changes its mind. I have edited the thread's title and the contents of my first post. Feel free to PM me for my phone number if it can be useful.
18. Welcome, Rob! Double well done for moving to bass guitar and to five strings Feel free to post questions and/or talk to the many BC members who play guitar as their first or second instrument. And there's a wealth of info for newbies and seasoned bassists alike on this site. Enjoy!
19. I tweeted Ped's blog about his visit to Rotosound and the guys there were very happy and re-tweeted it. Good job, Ped!
20. Oh, were Warwicks out of fashion before? Better finally get that Real McCoy Corvette (as opposed to Rockbass) I've been gassing about, before the price goes farther out of my reach...
21.
Liked on FB - keep up the good work
Thank you David
22. Nah, I didn't take it seriously, hence the LOL and the smiley. As for weirdos and riff-raff on t'internet... let's draw a veil
23.
aren't you slightly worried that this site will be invaded by weirdos and riffraff, and water down the otherwise normal and sane group that are currently resident on here though?
LOL why should that be? Most of the followers/likes we have on Twitter and FB are either bass/gear companies or BC members PS I will eventually get round to following back all of you guys. I need to do that in stages in order to keep track of progress.
