1.
I think guitarchat and drumchat are different forums rather than an extension of this one.
So entirely seprate websites and different URLs, I gather? Then I see no problem with diluting the audience, TBH. IMO, it's good to have a higher number of moderators. It makes me feel safer, so to speak - at any given moment you can now see that at least four mods/admins are logged on (in the list at the bottom of the home page), so you know that if anything goes amiss (spam attack, trolls etc.) it will be noticed and acted upon very quickly. As for the choosing process, as a relative newbie I'm fine with that - I assume a good deal of thought has gone into picking long-standing, respected members of the community. However, I also see the point of those other long-standing, respected members who have not been chosen or even asked. But of course, you can't have 20,000 mods/admins and a few hundred ordinary members - a selection needs to be made somehow.
2.
There's me thinking reload is probably the worst album they did. I remember once when they played Wembley arena for the first time. (Think it was an added date on the justice tour)anyway, the sound was muddy at best. Jason played a pretty Inaudible solo, which sounded like a buffalo being slaughtered. Jason was awesome in every other gig I saw him in tho'. As for cliff, I asked him about his sound. He just said 'get a phaser' ,)
Reload should have been scrapped - it appears to contain songs that didn't make it on to Load... As for Cliff... maybe "get a sound engineer that knows how to set bass guitar levels correctly in the mix"? [See also AJFA, of course, et al.] - Edited cos I've just realised the previous wording made it look like Cliff played on AJFA. -
3.
Hi bluejay, have just posted a transcription in the Theory and Technique Forum. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did working it out.
Excellent! Thank you so very much! Several hours' work saved
4. Damn, an awful lot more subforums to lurk in and laugh out loud at while I'm supposed to be working. Luckily I'm in my home office most of the time
5. No replies... Last call before I dictatorially choose a time and a place and decide about everything else!
6. Ok, let's say I can listen to DM, whilst I can't bring myself to even put St Anger into the CD player... Re: the muff - sarcastic description of the album's horrid cover depicting a coffin with magnetic dust arranged around it. Not the most refined put-down, I agree, but I'm not the one who coined it.
7. The above, but is it possible that the inside of the gigbag is acrylic fabric and not as smooth as it should be? In that case it would cause some wear, like a very fine sheet of sandpaper, when the bass moves inside the bag. Is the tarnishing localised, or equally evident all over?
8. Welcome, Rex! This is a very friendly place, and I'm sure you'll feel at home (Note to D. I. Joe - not as in "doing the cooking and housework", though! ) And you also have the good taste to cohabit with another bassist as opposed to a guitarist or summat or other
9. I lost interest after Load. I recently found a "limited edition" copy of The Muff album (aka Death Magnetic) for a fiver and bought it, but I could only tolerate listening to it once. Shame, as Rob Trujillo is a good bassist - although IMO not a patch on the style and cool of Cliff and/or Jason.
10. I've emailed in my availability to help out with BC on social media - perhaps, if that became a job, I'd be able to justify the inordinate amount of time I end up spending on FB and Twitter
11. LOL A big welcome to the new mods, and thank you for helping to look after us. I'm also looking forward to the new forums, even if I know they'll cause me to spend even more time on here from now on!!
12. Ha, a tax on slapping - good idea Except maybe for Discreet? I'm sure you'll find a lot of experienced slappers there, only possibly not of the kind - or gender - you'd like?
13. It's mentioned here, but there are no dates. http://www.encycmet....t/jasoneq.shtml Edit: Found it: "For Load, I used a Boss Flanger, an MXR Phase 100, a Mu-Tron, a Korg G5 Bass Synth Processor, and an original Electro-Harmonix Big Muff with the 'pi' symbol on it. "" http://www.freewebs....sandeffects.htm
14. Another vote for the Warwick Rockbass Fretless 5 (Corvette in my case). Tiger Ebony fingerboard as well. Plus D'Addario chromes. Love it.
15. OK, I would say that the meetup seems viable, judging by the number of posters who expressed interest on here. So, would you guys really prefer to have curry for lunch somewhere, as opposed to meeting up for a drink or - weather permitting - a picnic? As for the place, suggestions welcome, presumably depending on which of the above options the majority prefers. Should be reasonably central so that as many of us as possible can reach it without having to spend hours travelling. Thanks for your help - and humour - so far!
16. Firefox 14.0.1 here too, same problem. Been ignoring it so far, can't be bothered to switch coding just for this website...
17.
I bet - good for you!
But you say you've settled on the bass, so it's the end of a quest, and as a result you simply are a bassist, no matter what others say or don't say, so good onya as well
18. One of my FB friends commented on a photo (long since deleted) of me playing my 4-stringer, with the words "Wow, look at that bassist!!!!". That was around a year after I started, so I was still a beginner, but it felt nice
19. There was another one going spare, but it didn't fit any of us and we couldn't make use of it
20. Yes, but listening is one thing, being able to play the whole bassline correctly is another. No Treble have a library of isolated basslines from different artists and genres. http://www.notreble.com/buzz/tag/isolated-bass/
21. Nope - that's right at the opposite end of town from where I live, and I'd prefer not to have to travel for more than an hour just to reach the place, if at all possible. I'm thinking of something relatively central such as one of the parks (Regent's, Hyde) or a pub in the area if the weather plays up. Or, of course, we can go to the same place as our first meetup, the South Bank, if you guys prefer.
