1. Hmmmm.... Erm, do you usually hoover the garden??
2. Er, no I haven't, in fact... but dodgy areas are everywhere, unfortunately.
3. LOL I wonder whether those Duracells with the growling, fat sound come with tone knobs on too. Or even preamps. *goes off to google them*
4. I wasn't dismissing the idea! Simply thinking of the practicalities, but this female lefty from Chiswick would definitely be up for it. We would need to make sure that a reasonable group of us can make it - it would be a pity, and a lot of wasted effort, for you to set your place up for 10 or 15 and get 3 or 4 attendees only.
5.
Blue... may I suggest an interim meet at someone's place, i.e. bring your own (bass & backing tracks, entertain us in rotation) bring your own drink & food, cook, wash and leave the place as tidy as you've found it? If that will suit most people then I am happy to welcome a decent number of you's, (no more than 10-15) I have a big garden, free parking on my street and very understanding (young) neighbours.
I've done that for BBQs with friends who live in my area. Not sure how it would work on a London-wide basis, though, as it implies a few of the group - the girls, usually - meeting up at the house a few hours earlier to get everything ready, and then either staying late clearing and tidying up or going back the following day.
6. Some of the first songs I learned at my beginners course were In The Midnight Hour, Seven Nation Army, Lithium, Beat It, Stir It Up and Gimme Some Lovin'.
7.
I try and find little batteries - did you realise that there is actually quite a noticeable size difference in the same type of battery? I have to jam mine into a small cavity (Carry On moment) that is already full of preamp - so i go for the smallest i can find.
Now, has anyone told bass guitar manufacturers? I mean, how difficult can it be for them to allow one more millimetre on each dimension when they create the cavity?
8. Got a similar device among my tools, but always end up waiting for the E string on my two active basses to fart... then it's time to replace the battery
9. The usual 9V Energizer or Duracell (the good models). Be aware that they tend to be slightly thicker than cheaper makes, which implies some trouble getting them into the slot and getting them out. Be careful not to trap or short any wires. Oh, and remember to unplug the bass from the amp and disconnect the lead from both. Edited for typos - grrr!
10. If anyone's gigging, post info on this thread as well as in the Gigs section, so that those of us in the area may try to attend!
11.
He also created the... G-String... The Thong Remainth The Thame.
I was going to say that the B string is God's gift to Bassist - but I guess we need to add the G string to that. And possibly the E, A and D strings that happen to be in between?
12. Blimey, 22 degrees is what we in the UK get for most of the summer! *looks for passport and checks online for flights*
13. Thank you all for your appreciation and suggestions. I will take them on board, and possibly organise another meetup for the beginning of September - bearing in mind that the South East Bash happens around the end of that month too, IIRC? We'll wait for them to confirm their date, and we'll take it from there. Suggestions for interim mini-meetups and drinks - perhaps at gigs, etc. - also welcome, if anybody has any.
14. Thank you guys for coming along! So when would London-based Basschatters like me to organise another one?
15. The site has been soooo veeery slooooow, intermittently, in the last few days, since Douglas noticed the same and posted last Wed. It's like walking through molasses at this moment. Win 7, FF 12, usual stuff.
16. But really, do we need blocks or dots on the fingerboard?? I mean, the dots on the side of the neck are more than sufficient for me, and if I'm playing a tricky bit, I'll need to look at the damn individual frets, and a block (especially) would be of no help whatsoever. I agree with those who say that, just from the point of view of aesthetics, blocks or dots of the same colour of the pickguard are preferable.
17.
100% turnout, surely a BC record?
YAY! I'm tempted to organise one over there in the middle of our long, cold, dreary winter In the meantime, our London cell spent 5 hours in the sun on Saturday and loved every minute of it.
18. I would like to organise another meetup before summer's out, if enough people would be up for one. It would be lovely to see all of you who couldn't make it today.
19. I don't wear makeup! I'm useless at putting anything on my face, so I don't...
20.
The perfect afternoon, spent with fine company.
Sean, I don't know if you're on FB - if you are, feel free to friend me so I can tag you in the photo.
21. Photos! Our lovely Shelley (Seashell) with cool bassist bag Sean (Billyapple), Nigel (silddx) and Shelley Yours truly trying to "spread herself out" on the bench, as requested
22. Loved the afternoon and got a serious tan!! Thank you all who attended! Uploading photos as we speak
