1. Lovely photo, beautiful girlfriend, and lovely polo shirt. I'm tempted to get one, the smallest possible size, and then take it in and see if I manage to fit it. Would be good to start a thread of us wearing BC shirts and I'd love to join in! I'll have a look at the sizing chart and see if there's any way to turn whichever is the tiniest into a damn size 6... Edit: Dave, tell her she's gorgeous in those photos, no need for hair, makeup or trickery.
2. I believe Warwick listened to customer feedback and improved their necks. They are fine now - if my tiny hands can use a Warwick 5er, I think anybody can!
3. Welcome, Ash! I'm sure one of the veterans will help you soon re. selling gear. Stay around and join us in our rants and raves!
4.
That's very kind. All the site donations and shop funds go back to developing the site at the moment, as we have a few big things coming up which cost mega bucks to develop. I think it's best that people who donate to the site see their donations bring benefits to them directly though better features and improvements. I decided to sponsor Dinesh with my own money though as it costs half the price of my road tax to put him through school for a year! I'm hoping he will become a famous bass player and I'll make my money back
Excellent - I thoroughly agree. And kudos (and big thanks) to you for the hard work.
5. I'm getting a gift PC and screen from a friend whose office is clearing out some old stuff. Will make a donation to Basschat - to be used both for the site itself and for this young chap you sponsor. Edit: My old PC just crashed at the thought!
6. Looks interesting. Thanks! I haven't got a Kindle but will try the PC verson.
7. Get well very soon, Hobbayne, and be there. We'll be looking for you.
8. Welcome! And yes, we can hear you! Stay with us, we're happy to listen
9.
Oooh, very hi-tech. A twitter-literate (twitterate?) friend asked if we were having a "tweetup".
I'm on Twitter as @BassClef78 and I follow both @basschatuk and @bassguitarshow, but I haven't got a smartphone, which means I'm only half a twitterate, so to speak... I need to have my laptop or netbook with me for it to work
10. Welcome Chris! Fellow Warwick player here - although the cut-price versions. Grab yerself a 5-stringer, you won't look back
11. Welcome, Mike! Perhaps now that you're part of our community you will play bass on a more regular basis? There is also an "Other Instruments" subforum on this site.
12. Will do! And I'm warning you all - my camera will be with me all the time, and I anticipate a massive Facebook album with photos of all kinds of gear and hopefully of new friends among you guys (and gals)!
13. HAHA! At the moment I've got a ticket for Saturday. I'll see what I'll feel like doing on Sunday and maybe get another ticket. The meetups at the various stands and possibly at the pub later are still on!
14. I agree with the previous posts - experiment with the height and position of the bass, try playing while sitting down, to see if it makes any difference, and make sure you haven't got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (which is what happened to me a few months ago). The latter may not have been caused by your bass playing, but you might be feeling the pain the most when you play bass.
15. Thinking of ditching 5 strings and going back to 4? No. Absolutely not. No f***ing way.
16. LOL no bananas in my public set of Flickr photos, but lots of Warwick basses! Oh,and some other pics I took for the past competitions on this site
17. Yup, got it now - hadn't noticed the difference before.
18. Edit: I get it now. I think we'll just have to live with this - unless one of the admins knows of a solution?
19.
Images hosted on Basschat have always looked like that to me - even before the forum upgrade.
But my photo above looks OK, so the trouble has probably got to do with the individual photo sharing site each of us uses, as well as how this site handles the external link codes. Sigh.
20. Dave, I think these copy and paste urls etc. are a bit dodgy, because on occasion I've done the same as you and only managed to get a link to the photo, and people needed to click on it to see the image, and then had access to my other public images on Flickr's slideshow. Not sure if it's each website's codes that clash, or what. Feel free to delete my image from your collection, of course!
21. Dave, what I do with my images on Flickr is, I click on it until it displays on its own and then right-click on it to bring up the menu with the choice of sizes (Medium 500, Medium 640 and Large on my FF). In that menu, I left-click on the size I want, wait for the photo to display, then right-click to "Copy image location" and paste the url in the Image box in this site's reply. Trying it now: Click on photo on Flicker's list of thumbnails Photo appears larger but with magnifying glass symbol in place of the cursor. Click on photo. Photo appears again as part of (static) slideshow Right-click on photo, choose Medium 640 from menu Right-click on photo that appears, to bring up another menu, choose Copy Image Location Click on Image icon at top of this reply box Paste OK Result:
22. Haha, I agree! Just go for it and buy the best you can afford. I deliberately went for the cheapest option only because I was going to experiment with making it left-handed myself, and I thought I better limit the risk in case of abject failure I simply haven't got the space for a DB at home, so I'm waiting until I have enough money for this baby: http://www.thomann.d..._bass_lh_bs.htm
23.
As an aside, once you have been using the DB for any length of time, a BG just feels so easly to play and strangely has really brought my playing on leaps and bounds. No idea why though, maybe it just feels so much easier in comparison?
If you play DB at the beginning of your session, and then switch to BG, it sure as hell feels a lot SMALLER! Less distance for your fingers to travel in order to play the notes, which results in your playing being faster. With the help of muscle memory, that probably tends to become a permanent feeling.
