Decent video editing software for Windows

I'll do the free trial, then probably upgrade to both, since Photoshop is one of my main staples, and I've got version 15. Many thanks to all! đđ -

Yup, just noticed that too. Just over ÂŁ70 for both 2021 programs. I may be tempted. -

Fair enough, you do seem to use a lot more expensive packages than I do, or even used to do when working as a technical translator and editor. I've logged into my long-forgotten Adobe account and been offered Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, both 2021 versions, for just over ÂŁ130. There's a discount for upgrading, but I need to check if it requires you to already have both programs (I've only got one). Assuming I like Premiere, that purchase would be doable. I will have to do a free trial run of Premiere first, though, as I have no idea if I would get along with it as nicely as I do with Photoshop. -

Yes, my post was tongue-in-cheek. The main reason I was, and still am, uncomfortable with subscription is the constant need to be online - even if these things do allow you to do some work offline and upload it later - and for the remote server to always be up and working fine when I need it. I never had trouble upgrading from one expensive package to a better version of the same, because upgrading used to be far, far cheaper than buying from scratch, at least in my experience. I've never done video work, but in my previous working life I used to run big and complex specialised translation databases on highly specialised translation software: all very expensive but mostly just the first time. Same with old-time versions of Microsoft Office etc. Unfortunately I'm in the losing camp, as now everything has to be online and updated via the internet, from Windows 10 to all other operating systems and applications. I will never be equally comfortable with them as I was with the old-fashioned way. -

Will check it out. *luddite mode on* I'm not paying for the Creative Cloud as I'm an aficionado of having the bleedin' program on the bleedin' hard disk, none of this subscription shite, thank you very much... *luddite mode off* đ -

@gapiroThanks for that. I have an Adobe account which I got when I bought a copy of Photoshop Elements, I'll have a look at that and see how much Premiere may end up costing us! Other suggestions welcome! đ -

Recommendations for strings on a Magnum
Silvia Bluejay replied to ProfJames's topic in General Discussion
Yup, D'Addario XLs are easy to recognise, but the flatwounds on the other one are a mystery to us - brass-coloured ball-ends, low tension, NOT Labella (the Labella LTs have dark red silks, the normal ones black), not Thomastiks (they have bright red silks)... so we're a bit stumped. -

We will miss you, Eddie. Am I the only fan who had been expecting this for years now, though? Gutted as I am, I'm not surprised because he'd been fighting this for at least two decades. I never bought his line of 'I drank, smoked and did drugs - a lot - for quite a long time in my life, but this cancer's all the fault of my metal plectrum. Honestly.' Yeah, right. Thankfully, his legacy lives on.There are guitarists who play a lot of notes very fast, with no sense of melody, rhythm or serving the song, and say they were inspired by Eddie; I hope they take this moment as an opportunity to go back and listen to his guitar playing on VH songs, and try to understand how it actually works. RIP EVH.

I know the book has been mentioned here on Basschat in the past. I have finally read it (twice!), and written a review, in case anyone's interested. STEINBERGER by Jim Reilly NOTE: I'm sharing this here and on some of my social media because I love the book. I have no vested interest in it. I met Jim and Ned at NAMM, had a chat, took a photo of them together, and gave the photo to Jim, who published in the book. I did not request any payment, and received a copy as a thank you gesture.

Incidentally, and I do know I'm on the losing side for this, the correct pronunciation of his (Sicilian) surname has the stress on the "i" not on the "e", and the "ia" in Prestia is not a diphtong - it's meant to be pronounced as two sounds, as if it was spelled ĂŻa. No idea how his current US family pronounce their surname, but I bet that it doesn't sound similar to "Preston".

Using a PA speaker as a bass cab - it's awful!

Perhaps have a read of this thread on the subject... and welcome to Basschat. -
All punters were socially distanced, and the volume was low enough to talk as opposed to shouting.
-
Even when drunk, punters who care about their local will do their best to avoid getting it into trouble. I'm not sure why the Govt chooses to blame pubs for a spread that mostly appears to come from people's interaction in other places. Punters having fun in a Covid-safe way:

This is the show, apparently...

Incidentally, that's from 2 weeks ago and it'd be high time for them to go fully public, seeing the show's supposed to be in two days...

There's some info on the old LBGS website, which is now an automatic (temporary?) redirect to Music Radar. I must say, I've lost most of my interest.

I replaced all of my Warwick straplocks with normal pins long ago. Stupid system.
