These are all roundwounds, am I right?

Lining up silks - It's definitely possible, any tips?
Silvia Bluejay replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yes but we haven't found any flatwounds with no silks. And TBH I prefer to have the feel and compliance I like, as opposed to a neater look, when the choice is one OR the other.- 45 replies

I'm afraid I have to agree with the consensus, @AinsleyWalker - the length of the silks is rather random and it's best not to mess with it anyway. Some of mine: D'Addario Chromes on two different basses (This set is almost perfect!) (The set below is only slightly less perfect...) Labella Low Tension Flats on two different basses - nowhere near... (apologies for the poor quality of the pic below, taken just now in artificial light, just to show you.) However, as a fellow OCD sufferer, I have a question. Can you cope with mismatched ball end orientation? I can't. I have been known to re-adjust the strings if the ball ends look untidy. OCD and proud of it.- 45 replies

Best Over Ear headphones to Play along to Tracks
Silvia Bluejay replied to Quent's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hi Quent! I'm another play-at-home bassist and use a PJB Bass Buddy and PJB headphones, all hooked on to a laptop with Phrase Trainer software playing my MP3s. We have had a few threads on headphones in Accessories and Misc, and one recent one is this. I'll see if I can find more. -
I think Nothing Else Matters was also in that list from approx 1992.

Been discussed already...

Neat job! I've just looked at the tuning pegs on my Eminence, which are similar to that one, and they could be manipulated like that if necessary. All my bass guitars, however, have the Schaller/Goto modern-shaped, sealed tuning pegs, the look of which I prefer; replacements for those are relatively cheap to find.

I don't play guitar... 😱

Ooooo! I'll play. These are the basses I have that follow a theme. I've got others that are one-offs.

Do flatwounds without the silks exist?
Silvia Bluejay replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Accessories and Misc
Probably a matter of trial and error, then. Either second hand sets, or playing other Basschatters' instruments (once meeting up is no longer verboten). -

Normal (non-low tension) Labella flats have black silk, IIRC? I could live with those (but not the strings themselves, though - too stiff for my hands). -

Could be worse... upright bass strings! Both D'Addario and Innovation Silver/Gold Slaps, to name a couple, have a different-coloured silk on each string! -
I have no experience of Yamaha basses, so I can't help I'm afraid, but I do have one question: is the loose tuning peg rattling because the tuning peg itself is broken/damaged, or because it's been knocked out of place, with possible damage to the fixing screw? If the latter, you will need to find a replacement set of pegs that doesn't use the same screw holes, or you'll have to fill/repair that damaged hole first and make sure it can take another screw safely. I'm going to move this thread to Repairs And Technical, where it's more likely to get a useful answer by Yamaha users.

Do Thomann still charge you in Euros?
Silvia Bluejay replied to linear's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for that. Nothing major, I bought a set of Silver Slaps and a padded stage light carrier. I'd be rather annoyed if I had bought a bass and spent a lot more, in Euros! -

Ha! I'll remember all this when I place my next order, and make sure to check. Thanks -

I'm not sure I understand this discussion. What do you guys mean by searching for Thomann UK on Google and ending up on a different site? I use www.thomann.de/gb/. I still end up exactly on that url if I search for Thomann UK. Yet I've always been charged in Euros with added conversions, fees etc., even when I bought something recently. What's the url you guys are using to see/be charged prices in Sterling? -
I'd say Repairs And Technical maybe? I'll move it there to start with.
