Warwick to become 'Exclusive Licensee' to Sadowsky!
Silvia Bluejay replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
That matches what Roger said to us in our chat. And in that document we can see the RSD logo, which wasn't on the basses we saw at NAMM. -
Excellent drummer I know has started a band and is looking for a female bassist (the band name suggests why - see below). They rehearse in Camden, London. Please email Felipe or message the band's FB page, don't message me. Ta!

What do you think about this bass ?

It's @dave moffat who suggested the size... I just jumped on the bandwagon. 😎 -

That might explain why the silk wrapping on the strings gets so close to the bridge. Presumably, full length DB strings have been used. -

What are the machine heads like in a cello? Those I can see in the pic look like those I've seen on double basses. -

I can't help wondering what's going on with the thickness of that bridge... -
I use these to carry coiled leads. What are they?

These are our own Cable Wranglers in use in our music room. We'll chuck them both in a dedicated bag when it's time to take them to gigs. -
They actually don't - this forum prohibits the advertising and sale of all Rickenbackers, real or fake. Discussion is absolutely fine.

The search is not proving easy, so no need for apologies. I think the headphone amp info is buried in threads that start with a different topic and just veer towards it at some point. Edit to add: I've found only old threads, so it's a good thing you have re-started the conversation - there will be new technology around by now.

There have been several threads about headphone amps on this forum (I'll try searching in a moment). My own experience is that the little toys such as Vox Amplug etc. are utter rubbish - go with the PJB, your wallet may complain, but your ears and bass playing performance will thank you.

Incidentally, I know it's not quite NAMM the show, but we also attended the Bass Bash on the Thursday, and I've posted a few photos on Facebook, in case anyone's interested.

Please tell me why I should avoid getting a Rickenbacker!
Silvia Bluejay replied to Al Krow's topic in Bass Guitars
I have absolutely no trouble asking how much something costs in a shop, even if I'm not particularly interested in buying it. I have even less trouble asking how much something costs if I *am* interested in buying it. Not quite sure why such enquiry would be a big deal for anyone. What I definitely don't like is websites not giving prices next to images of things for sale. What do you do? Do you have to email them just to satisfy your curiosity? Obviously I'm not referring to high-end custom builds, each of which will have a different price depending on specs. -

When @Happy Jack and I had a quick catch-up with John Hall (I know...) at NAMM, he assured us that they're sending over and selling quite a lot of their fivers in the UK. Their booth had all the models on show, once again hanging from the usual brackets, and tied at the headstock so they couldn't be taken off their hooks. (Photos will eventually follow!) Happy Jack wrote a review of the fiver two years ago - attached. Jacks NAMM Rick 5 review BGM 154 March 2018.pdf -

You'll probably need a strong coathanger hold them, together with the coiled cables. -

Found a link! Here it is, more expensive but available to buy. -

I've looked up the company on the usual online selling sites. They have a US Ebay store where delivery to the UK doubles the price (Not A Good Thing), and they used to have an Amazon.co.uk store but it's no longer functioning and the product appears as unavailable. Their distributor appears to be near Milton Keynes, and they're the ones we'll contact for info if/when we need more units for our cables. -

Well, of all the nice things we saw at NAMM and would happily have taken home, this was the one we decided we absolutely could not leave without. It's called CableWrangler and we bought two. They apparently have a UK distributor, probably wholesale, though. That's @Happy Jack on the right with the owners of the company. -
Whichever calendar is chosen, the problem is always human incompetence or sloth! There will always be someone who forgets to enter their own unavailable dates or can't be ar$ed to. We use the Lemonrock calendar for both our bands, kept bang up to date by only one of us - me. All band members are requested to *promptly* let us know of any dates they can't make - via email, text, Whatsapp, etc. - and I do the rest. Anything marked as free in those diaries will be accepted as a booking.

Just a note re. ads on Basschat: if you stay logged in, you get fewer ads on your screen, and AFAIK all of them are music-related and non-intrusive. I have Adblock Plus installed but disabled on Basschat, and I don't find the ads a nuisance in any way. I'm currently in a waiting lounge at LAX airport and only see one ad for the Manchester Bass Show - none of your silly Google-imposed, localised ads. 👍 On the other hand, I must have reported as spam hundreds of Facebook ads in the last couple of months - they really pop up every other 'normal' post and are horrid. So I either report them as spam, or as fake news, or as offensive, but mostly spam, because that forces FB to create a 'case' for each report - in other words, it's compelled to take note, even if it doesn't take action.

It did not say! On purpose, I think: 'we're not giving you any publicity at all after we've chucked you out of the show'.

The 'Talkbass web server issues' thread
Silvia Bluejay replied to donkelley's topic in General Discussion
I'm drowning in photos, and slowly sorting them out. I'll be writing my blogs, but before then, I'll find a few to post on here. Rickenbacker's booth is the same style as previously, with the basses hanging from brackets. A good number of of 5-stringer models and lots of lefty models. Stingrays must be very popular indeed, as their stand is always extremely busy and not conducive to good photos! Warwick has a large booth organised in several different areas, which makes it easier to photograph bit by bit, and are making a big song and dance about Sadowsky, as you would expect. Watch this space. Apologies for derailing the thread. 😏 -
I'll be writing a series of NAMM mega-blogs throughout Feb and March! It's a great show.

Spotted along a wall, in an empty space large enough for a decent-sized booth. Nuff said. LBGS/UK Guitar Show, please take note. It can be done.

They're probably all here at NAMM rather than at their desks! 😉
