  1. It was definitely a busy and, at times, highly confusing day. Thank you @mangotango and all the others who stopped me to say hi, comment on what was going on, talk about Basschat, check out the left-handed basses on show with me. That's one of the reasons I enjoy going to the show, no matter what its organisational failings may throw at us. Speaking of which, did anyone else receive an email this morning 29/09/19 with the subject line 'Final Call for Advance Tickets to the London Bass Guitar Show'?? No, it's not a fake message or a scam, the source for the familiar-looking HTML message looks very much like it's coming from the real thing. (Text here.) It's only, erm, at least eight days too late to be of any use. 😮
  2. Their Facebook page gives this address: Unit 20 Old Surrenden Manor Rd, Bethersden, TN26 3DL Ashford, Kent. Event here.
  3. That means there were a number of young visitors who are already excellent bassists. That A Very Good Thing.
  4. Incidentally, and this confirms absolutely everybody's complaint about noise, I've just reviewed my audio-only recordings of the day, and the ones I took at the Luthier/tone Zone, despite placing the Zoom audio recorder as near as possible to one of the speakers, are almost painful to listen to. Only good for transcribing for a written article, if BGM needs them, but I would not want to subject anyone to a listen. What an utter shame.
  5. Was your daughter the blonde girl also playing bass with headphones at the Stonefield booth, and putting all of us to shame with her chops? If yes, hats off.
  6. Far too late, sorry. I don't think we're arguing among ourselves either, are we? PS Refers to @cetera's post.
  7. LOL!! I'm sticking with the OCD theory, and I'm having an episode, after I've counted the other threads. I'm confused enough as it is, I won't touch the Merge button! 😮
  8. No fewer than FOUR other threads in this subforum on this year's show. This is the fifth.
  9. I think it's just because we've got another - or is it two other? - thread(s) on this year's show in this subforum, and we're a bit OCD about it all? (I certainly am...)
  10. It's a discussion. It should be about the show. It has been placing too much importance on talking about not going to the show, not actually having been there. Interesting as it might be, that's not a review. Doesn't matter now, as I said. I doubt the organisers will be checking this thread every 5 minutes - they got the general idea and have a lot of work to do.
  11. Which is not helpful at all, but there you go. I guess Joel has got what he needed out of it and may or may not check back to see if there's any more bickering going on.
  12. Very true. I'll be banging on about it at every opportunity I have to talk with BGM and the organisers about that. This is a review thread, not a general chat; it is here for talking about how the show actually unfolded and what problems it had. That has nothing to do with whether the show makes money or not.
  13. Come on guys, we're not being aggressive, we're reminding you that this is a review thread and that, strictly speaking, those who haven't been belong to the other LBGS show, not giving us their opinions here. The organisers want to hear from those who were there. They already know the main reasons why people decide not to attend. What they need now is constructive criticism by those who DID attend.
  14. Up to you really, did I mention your name even once?
  15. You can't only have names from rock and pop - Patitucci is much more of a star than several other 'big names' we've had, but he's a jazzman, innee, so too technical, too out there, etc. so that doesn't count, does it? Incidentally, when one of the household names of bassdom, John Taylor of Duran Duran, attended the show a few years ago, people still found reason to complain for the opposite reasons to Patitucci's presence, that is, because apparently his talk was swamped with former Duranettes, so he didn't play much bass, he didn't talk much technique, and chose to reminisce and present his book instead. They can't win, can they?
  16. So Paul Gilbert and John Patitucci not big enough names? Bless.
  17. The noise problem in the seminar rooms was from poor insulation in the Auditorium. Nothing to do with slapping or distorted guitar solos in the hall.
  18. Then you'd hear loud whingeing instead, some possibly from those who whinge about too much noise. 😮
  19. I can only imagine there must be a problem of bruised egos among players and exhibitors, and/or a cost in having more than one person, possibly burly bouncer-type guys, going around acting rather unfriendly.
  20. I must note that many of those complaining of the noise are, in turn, noise-makers when they get to play some of the gear. It's a vicious circle, and I do think the 15 minutes of playing vs 45 minutes of, erm, less noise should be enforced with Gestapo-like attitude.
  21. Not sure how much weight a comment along the lines of "I can't be ar$ed getting to London for a show that doesn't have my very favourite X, Y and Z, even if it has A, B and C that would be interesting, if I could be ar$ed, but I only want X, Y and Z" would have...
  22. Read this thread, and notice those who slag off the show without having been there, in certain cases without *ever* having been there. Others find that it's not worth travelling from Edinburgh or wherever, which is not the fault of the show - I don't think I'll trek even just to Manchester from London, despite my ardent interest in gear and my enjoyment of music shows. Etc. Etc. Etc....
