Best software for transcribing MP3 tracks
Silvia Bluejay replied to Teebs's topic in General Discussion
I can't see how having a song, originally in A minor, transcribed in C major can be of any use at all. If the song starts with an A minor chord, replacing it on the score with a C major chord - and so on with each chord through the song - can only be a hindrance. Or am I still missing something? 😮- 62 replies

Best software for transcribing MP3 tracks
Silvia Bluejay replied to Teebs's topic in General Discussion
I've had Anthemscore for a while (demo version) but I can't for the life of me find how to change a notation transcription into the correct key. As in, I ask the software to analyse, say, a song that I know is in A minor, and the damn thing comes up with Eb major! So I go to the dropdown menu in the appropriate field to choose the correct key to re-transcribe, and can only see SOME keys, not all. A minor is NOT among them, because the list only gives major keys. Not sure where I'm going wrong, but on this basis, I wouldn't recommend the software, and I won't be buying the full version. Unless of course I'm being an idiot and someone can explain where I'm going wrong.- 62 replies

New August 2019 episode here!
-
I think the show is planned, but not fully revealed, or perhaps not fully confirmed. My point was that you don't have to attend if you think it won't be worth your while. However, the key word here is 'think'. You won't be sure you're correct until either you see in person or hear reliable reports. And that's not going to happen until the show has actually taken place. So all this doom-mongering in advance is a bit unnecessary in my opinion.

Judging by what I can see on their website, it looks more like a NAMM-style layout than two separate halls. While I share the feeling of frustration with you all, may I suggest we stop being defeatist on principle, and wait until this event has taken place, before we rant or rave about it? I do understand that those of you who live far from London rightly don't want to risk the hassle and expense of a 'wasted' weekend in the capital, should the show be a bust. In that case, I'd suggest you sit and wait until we Londoners, and those who live close enough to try this unknown quantity without too much damage, report back on what the show really was like. THEN you can slate it or decide that, after all, it sounds equally intriguing and you will try it next year. (Note: I have no particular affiliation with the show, other than being a contributor to BGM. This year I've made sure to buy my own ticket so I don't have to work while I'm there, and can instead look at the whole show, guitars included, on my own terms.) I for one will be attending, observing, and reporting back in detail, before passing judgement.

Finding high-end bassists amongst the groceries

You may be spotted by a couple of US bass nerds/music journalists... 😉😎 -

Yes, do google him - he's played with EVERYONE. He may not be a household name as a rockstar, but he plays bass on most of the soundtrack of my youth, and probably of yours! We're posting with an 8-hour delay! Currently 3.35pm in the UK but 7.35am in California. -

@skankdelvar Trader Joe is an even nicer version of Waitrose, albeit smaller. @SICbass We introduced ourselves, said hi and left him to do his shopping. We didn't want to bother him for more than a minute. When we met again at the tills he was the one to suggest we took a photo, so we did. -

The bass clef bag gives the game away... -
Exactly as Kevin says. I for one loved NAMM and being able to see other instruments as well as bass. If that helps with the survival of the Bass Show, I'm all for it. I'm reasonably sure that there would be no business or practical reason to have the bass section disappear altogether by stealth within a few years as someone has suggested. There are a lot more guitarists than bassists, but we still exist! Also: John Patitucci does play double bass as well as electric. A large double bass stand used to be a regular at previous LBGSs, but I haven't seen it for a couple of years. A return would be welcome (and mightily GAS-inducing, I assure you).

To add: his name only appears here, and I hope that's not his only appearance.

Yes, the website hasn't been updated to show Patitucci. @LondonBassGuitarShow action urgently needed.

It absolutely is, and I agree and I hate it. not all men are useless, selfish or <insert any of a thousand traditional insults>. In this particular case, though, nobody was being sexist towards men. -

If I was offended by everything that's sexist in life I'd have committed suicide decades ago. I'd rather challenge sexism instead. I'm just bored by this and by people who either don't notice stuff like this or pretend not to notice. As I said, no harm done, or I would have hidden and locked the thread long ago. -

I'd feel the same. Some people can't help themselves, though, possibly for the same reasons as you reacting to your Dad's profligacy? -

Probably wondering if she'll have to bail you out with her own money? (Only joking!) -

Also, looking back at your post, in what cases does the word "wife" mean "partner of either gender"? I remembered correctly that it was sexist from the start. -

I thought I was clear enough when I said that I don't find it offensive, or I would have removed it long ago. I find it just boring and, frankly, a bit silly, because despite your current clutching at straws, you must have known that it would immediately take the 'wrong' turn. No need to delete the entire post, really, as I said, I could have done it at the beginning, wot wiv me being a mod and all. -

Hey Paul @Hobbayne, you've reminded us we have a flagellation emoji! To get back on topic, I do find this kind of posts sexist and boring, if I can be honest with you all. I'm sick to death of people suggesting I buy some new shoes when @Happy Jack succumbs to GAS, even when they know I'm a bass player (I'm not referring to the OP in this case). I'm bored with hearing about wives who appear to be hostile to new purchases. If you've got kids and your wife has a job, chances are she pours all of her income into the family coffers, forgetting about shoes and handbags, so she has all the right to ask about you splashing thousands - or even just hundreds - on bass stuff unless there's a good reason. Usually, all she is asking about is for you to provide that good reason. Nobody is offended by this male-centred banter: we're just bored sh!tless. -
John Patitucci just announced.

I'm happy I can now reveal this: John Patitucci at the LBGS

I do understand that making a visit as a trip from outside London is a big deal and you'd like to be sure it's worth the effort, and I totally share your frustration; however, do bear in mind that many - in fact possibly the majority - of the exhibitors who will actually be there will not have confirmed their attendance yet.
-
Also, the main centre of luthiery in Italy used to be Cremona, in Lombardy - perhaps worth a visit to see if it still is.
