  1. I'm not getting anything in the spam folder either! And it's the same on both PCs I use.
  2. Yes, that used to happen fine! You know, @charic, I didn't get a notification for your reply to this, either.
  3. First new bug on The New Era - sorry! In the last few days, I have received email notifications only for some of the content I follow. For instance, no notifications for the Acoustic Bass thread in GD. I have gone to my notifications page, unsubscribed from the notifications i had ticked, re-subscribed, but still nothing. However, I do seem to receive notifications of new threads that are created in the forums I follow, including GD.
  4. I have one of those large acoustic bass guitars that look very much like an acoustic guitar, with phosphor-bronze rounds on, and I would agree that it's always best to amplify when in a band situation. You're more likely to find a semi-acoustic bass guitar - with active electronics, preamp etc. - in shops or online, as opposed to a purely acoustic one, and I suppose there's a good reason for that.
  5. Congrats, Alan! It was a pleasure, and highly GAS-inducing, to speak to you at the LBGS. I hear you're going to be at NAMM too? We'll see you there for a catch-up and more GAS!
  6. We still don't seem to have a "Shop", but the FAQs suggest that the £18 is the annual renewal fee. From https://www.basschat.co.uk/faq/
  7. I'm drawing a blank, which may be due to either my poor searching skills or the limitations of the current search function (still only going back 12 months, I think, until we migrate to a more powerful server).
  8. Aah, yes, you're right. I'll do a bit of searching and see if I can find the thread.
  9. Do you mean this thread? It's still here. I don't know how the OP is doing, though. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/289778-i-wrote-a-book-about-being-in-a-covers-band/
  10. This is the reply I received: I am also assured that the birthday congratulations are genuine - think about it, these guys were being interviewed and simply added their happy birthday message to their interview. No need to make anything up.
  11. Well, I have no idea, I'm afraid, and I've just done what anyone could have done, I've emailed them. I'll report back.
  12. I have no information about that, I'm afraid.
  13. They don't seem to have revealed the timetable yet - I'll keep the forum posted if I get any more info. Incidentally, I've finally published the 2017 blog (https://goo.gl/z7UPA4), with a few cool photos of our team, and it's good to know BC will be there again.
  14. Sorry, my fault - they were set to Private. They should work now.
  15. I seem to have finally made it! SE Bass Bash blog is here: https://goo.gl/xoNCy9 and belated LBGS 2017 blog is here: https://goo.gl/z7UPA4  Phew... ;)

Incidentally, I hope you guys have some sort of ad blocker installed - not for Basschat, but for Wordpress, who seem to be going overboard with ads on blogs, at least judging by how many blocked 'items' my own Adblock counts every time I'm on that page.

Thanks for putting that up (that was my stringless aluminium Tele! - I took it along as another member gave me a bit for it, but we didn't quite link up on the day...).

Thanks for the excellent write-up and pictures! I was thwarted by a family engagement at the last minute, looked like it was terrific fun for all.

  16. LOL that was the only non-stressful day so far! Anyway, I've just published the SE Bash blog: Click here!
  17. Tweeted.
  18. I have been assured that there's a lot of activity behind the scenes, but the organisers are choosing not to make announcements yet. Exhibitors and stars are being booked as we speak, a large number of them are confirmed, and names will start to trickle out soon.
  19. Nothing helps more than being prepared! @Happy Jack has a habit of never completely trusting wireless, so that precious lead will always be handy on stage even when the device has new batteries. Dunno about the tenner, but he'd certainly be even faster if he were to drop a bass guitar...
  20. The NXT stand may be ugly, but it's fully adjustable in terms of height and angle, and the bass is very firmly held by the mechanism. You could even choose to not fully tighten the bass on the stand, if you wanted it to tilt a bit while you're playing it, and it wouldn't fall off, but you would have to remember to tighten the clamp before you leave, or the bass would slowly slide down.
  21. Couple of pictures from the Fox and Hounds last night:
  22. Last night at The Fox and Hounds in Stony Stratford - fantastic audience, and MacDaddy's finest hour! Should I Stay Or Should I Go
  23. I agree with that, and in fact I do also have a slightly more DB-like EUB in the shape of my righty-turned-lefty Harley Benton. It's got a DB-like bridge and the neck's shape and size, the action etc. are closer to a DB than an NXT. I love both and happily switch between the two.
  24. I see nobody has replied yet, so I'll start the ball rolling. I have an NXT 5 - photos here: Warning - it's LEFT-HANDED! Pros: very very portable; looks great; extremely easy to play, as its action can be set as low as that on a bass guitar, and it's got DOTS! Adjustable bridge height makes bowing perfectly comfortable too; extremely easy to set up through holes in the back plate, without the need to remove the cover; has a fully adjustable tripod stand that eliminates the need to balance the bass on your body while you play - it stays where you put it and you can walk around it. Cons: doesn't sound like a double bass, even with the corresponding switch activated; doesn't 'feel' like a double bass, and offers much less of a physical experience, because it's so small and thin you can almost play it like a bass guitar; the tripod is rather horrid to look at. Er, that's it for the cons... I do like my NXT a lot; then again, a normal size double bass is bigger and heavier than me, and a lefty is practically impossible to find and try before buying/ordering one from scratch, so EUBs are just about my only option.
  25. I can't see any photos - did you ever post any? They may help you sell faster. Good luck (I already have two acoustic basses, so I really can't justify).
