1. Another semi-acoustic gig, at Kew Village Market, this time finally in good weather at the beginning of July.
2. Jack has already mentioned the gig at the Prince of Wales in Wimbledon and posted a video - this is one pic taken before the mad dancing started. That pillar in front of the band does the shot no favours...
3. Semi-acoustic private function in Chiswick in June, the day after our wedding. Yes, that's Jack's new double bass outfit.
4. The Tabard W4 once again, still in May. This time the band was asked to set up in the back room. At the beginning of June we revisited the Walton Working Men's Club. They had turned off the fairy lights on the wall, so we went overboard with our own lights, plus Paul's 'flourescent Sainsburys carrier bag'
5. April saw the band back at the Admiral Nelson in Twickenham: And in May we were back to the Barley Mow in Shepperton after a long hiatus:
6. This thread is long overdue an update - about a dozen gigs are missing from the list! Just one photo for each gig, to keep it short. This is from the Tabard in Chiswick, last February: March saw the band play a new - for us - venue, the White Hart in Hemel. They have a sort of alcove for bands to set up in, and the place was heaving.

8. Again with Nigel at the Ealing Food Festival earlier this month.
9. Hanwell Carnival last June. This time with Nigel D'Sousa on the violin.
10. Time to bring this thread up to date with some King Ralph photos from 2017! To start with, a gig in rather cold weather at Kew Village Market last May, again with Keith Waithe on flute.

12. Excellent news. I've tweeted the happy ending!
13. I've tweeted this thread to Basshat's followers. Hope you recover the gear and the culprits are caught.
14. Flipped my cheapo Harley Benton EUB round. The work basically implies: - filing the nut properly, making sure you don't end up with the G string too low in the groove that was of the E string. - turning the bridge upside down and filing the grooves so that the angle of the surface inside the groove where the string rests is correct (also making sure the strings don't sit too deep in the grooves after filing) - filing the holes in the endpiece so that the E fits in the hole that was previously holding the G. - swapping the spacing bracket round so it's on the correct side for a lefty person to use against their body. There are other minor adjustments to make, but the above is the minimum you have to do. From the point of view of quality of sound and ease of playing, I don't recommend it. Get a "native" lefty, it'll be much more enjoyable. (I also bought an NS NXT 5-string as a starter, and like it, but what I'd really like to get, one day, is an Eminence - the high-end upright that looks like a thin double bass. Pity they don't seem to do lefties.) Flipping a righty can, however, be fun and very useful for learning about how an upright works.

16. Excellent! Camera and recording equipment at the ready!
17. Jack and I have profoundly diverging preferences when it comes to bass guitars' shape and sound, so we probably wouldn't play each other basses even if we could...
18. Thanks Ted! And thank you all who are taking the time to post on here. This is an unbeatable community. Low end forever!
19. Many thanks again, everybody. Loving our community!
Congratulations! Auguri e figli maschi, as we used to say back in the motherland
The motherland has always been sexist... And I've (intentionally) left it waay too late for children anyway!
20.
Congratulations. Really cool photos by the way...
Thanks Steve! On this occasion my Dad was behind my best DSLR camera, and he's the one who taught me how to take photos in a still-ongoing learning experience started over 40 years ago.
21.
Congratulations ... I reckon that GAS will only be half a problem - amps/cabs will be fine, still expect issues about basses with Silvia being a leftie... Do they make left handed leads??
GAS is still as strong as ever, Mick! We still have all our lefty and righty basses. And yes, you can make a lead left-handed, you just plug it in it with, erm, your left hand...
22.
Dunno on that one, but I suspect that It may well have been the principal cause of some divorces..!
OMG Doug, I hope not!
23.
Congratubassions. Incidentally, I also got married at Ealing Town Hall registry office a few years back.
Thanks Paul! You and we are West London neighbours after all. The Town Hall is gorgeous, and our wedding was one of the last ceremonies to happen there for a while: they are going to move the Register office out, refurb the building from top to bottom, turn it into a luxury hotel, then move the Register office back in.
24. Thank you all! We think ours is the first all-Basschat wedding, in that we signed up to this website because we play bass, without knowing each other, met in cyberspace, discovered we lived in the same area of London, and then met up in person. But we'd love to know if Basschat has been entirely responsible for any other marriage in the past or if anyone's planning to follow our path!
25. Pity there were no bass guitars (or double basses) anywhere in Ealing Town Hall, where Happy Jack and I tied the knot on Friday. Apart from that, all was perfect.
