3. Time to bring this thread up to date with some King Ralph photos from 2017! To start with, a gig in rather cold weather at Kew Village Market last May, again with Keith Waithe on flute.

5. Excellent news. I've tweeted the happy ending!
6. I've tweeted this thread to Basshat's followers. Hope you recover the gear and the culprits are caught.
7. Flipped my cheapo Harley Benton EUB round. The work basically implies: - filing the nut properly, making sure you don't end up with the G string too low in the groove that was of the E string. - turning the bridge upside down and filing the grooves so that the angle of the surface inside the groove where the string rests is correct (also making sure the strings don't sit too deep in the grooves after filing) - filing the holes in the endpiece so that the E fits in the hole that was previously holding the G. - swapping the spacing bracket round so it's on the correct side for a lefty person to use against their body. There are other minor adjustments to make, but the above is the minimum you have to do. From the point of view of quality of sound and ease of playing, I don't recommend it. Get a "native" lefty, it'll be much more enjoyable. (I also bought an NS NXT 5-string as a starter, and like it, but what I'd really like to get, one day, is an Eminence - the high-end upright that looks like a thin double bass. Pity they don't seem to do lefties.) Flipping a righty can, however, be fun and very useful for learning about how an upright works.

9. Excellent! Camera and recording equipment at the ready!
10. Jack and I have profoundly diverging preferences when it comes to bass guitars' shape and sound, so we probably wouldn't play each other basses even if we could...
11. Thanks Ted! And thank you all who are taking the time to post on here. This is an unbeatable community. Low end forever!
12. Many thanks again, everybody. Loving our community!
Congratulations! Auguri e figli maschi, as we used to say back in the motherland
The motherland has always been sexist... And I've (intentionally) left it waay too late for children anyway!
13.
Congratulations. Really cool photos by the way...
Thanks Steve! On this occasion my Dad was behind my best DSLR camera, and he's the one who taught me how to take photos in a still-ongoing learning experience started over 40 years ago.
14.
Congratulations ... I reckon that GAS will only be half a problem - amps/cabs will be fine, still expect issues about basses with Silvia being a leftie... Do they make left handed leads??
GAS is still as strong as ever, Mick! We still have all our lefty and righty basses. And yes, you can make a lead left-handed, you just plug it in it with, erm, your left hand...
15.
Dunno on that one, but I suspect that It may well have been the principal cause of some divorces..!
OMG Doug, I hope not!
16.
Congratubassions. Incidentally, I also got married at Ealing Town Hall registry office a few years back.
Thanks Paul! You and we are West London neighbours after all. The Town Hall is gorgeous, and our wedding was one of the last ceremonies to happen there for a while: they are going to move the Register office out, refurb the building from top to bottom, turn it into a luxury hotel, then move the Register office back in.
17. Thank you all! We think ours is the first all-Basschat wedding, in that we signed up to this website because we play bass, without knowing each other, met in cyberspace, discovered we lived in the same area of London, and then met up in person. But we'd love to know if Basschat has been entirely responsible for any other marriage in the past or if anyone's planning to follow our path!
18. Pity there were no bass guitars (or double basses) anywhere in Ealing Town Hall, where Happy Jack and I tied the knot on Friday. Apart from that, all was perfect.
19. Detailed schedule available for download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d0pqwakzmmlffre/South%20East%20Bass%20Bash%202017.pdf?dl=0
20. Guys, feel free to make enquiries at places you think may be suitable. We can then put our heads together and see if there's any way of organising something.
21. The SE Bash is the best attended of all, so what works fine for smaller bashes will not necessarily work in its case. The requirements are: - a venue that's easy enough to reach by car and has lots of parking; extra points if it's close to a train station and bus services - several large rooms, separated from each other ideally by soundproof doors - ideally a nice foyer area for BC sales tables and the raffle - basic kitchen facilities and toilets The ground floor of a school would usually fulfill all of those requirements, but there can also be other suitable places.
22.
Have you posted any pics?
No 'proper' photos yet, but this is from that Walton gig.
23.
Poor feller. I'm's not's sure's it's right's that's the women's-folk are around's when a mans settin' up hiz bass.
24.
I forgot ms bluejay who tracked me down in the ground floor of Westminster bridge mac Donald's, despite zero mobile signal
Oh yes, forgot about you and your other half too! It *was* great to meet you both
25. +1 to all the good things said above about meeting Basschatters for deals, or even just a drink, and attending bashes. Honourable mention for the London Bass Guitar Show too, which is teeming with Basschatters every year. And don't forget the non-bass-playing other halves. I have met Mrs CamdenRob, Mrs Grangur, Mrs Sharman, the lovely soon-to-be Mrs Dave Swift, as well as Mrs Hamster and Mrs Silverfoxnik, and found them all supportive, great fun and always willing to help out.
