1. Detailed schedule available for download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d0pqwakzmmlffre/South%20East%20Bass%20Bash%202017.pdf?dl=0
2. Guys, feel free to make enquiries at places you think may be suitable. We can then put our heads together and see if there's any way of organising something.
3. The SE Bash is the best attended of all, so what works fine for smaller bashes will not necessarily work in its case. The requirements are: - a venue that's easy enough to reach by car and has lots of parking; extra points if it's close to a train station and bus services - several large rooms, separated from each other ideally by soundproof doors - ideally a nice foyer area for BC sales tables and the raffle - basic kitchen facilities and toilets The ground floor of a school would usually fulfill all of those requirements, but there can also be other suitable places.
4.
Have you posted any pics?
No 'proper' photos yet, but this is from that Walton gig.
5.
Poor feller. I'm's not's sure's it's right's that's the women's-folk are around's when a mans settin' up hiz bass.
6.
I forgot ms bluejay who tracked me down in the ground floor of Westminster bridge mac Donald's, despite zero mobile signal
Oh yes, forgot about you and your other half too! It *was* great to meet you both
7. +1 to all the good things said above about meeting Basschatters for deals, or even just a drink, and attending bashes. Honourable mention for the London Bass Guitar Show too, which is teeming with Basschatters every year. And don't forget the non-bass-playing other halves. I have met Mrs CamdenRob, Mrs Grangur, Mrs Sharman, the lovely soon-to-be Mrs Dave Swift, as well as Mrs Hamster and Mrs Silverfoxnik, and found them all supportive, great fun and always willing to help out.
8. Nope - "Matamp into a Barefaced 610" as Jack says in his post. I must say I'm almost glad that the compression software in the camera equalised the band's sound a bit: what we in the audience could hear during that song was mostly the bass - so much so that, at the end of that set, I was asked whether I could hear that strange noise coming from the stage and what it could possibly be... That's after we had spent some time setting the Rickenfaker up. (When Jack played it for the first time at home I immediately yelled at him to stop hitting the E and A strings against the damn pickups! Cue a bit of pickup lowering and string balancing.)
9. Well, someone who cares enough to start a thread on here, even if they don't buy the mag anymore, may care enough to Facebook the mag or look up a contact on their website.
10. This has been brought to the editorial team's attention before, but finding a solution clearly represents a logistical nightmare, otherwise something would have been done by now. I can only suggest you guys find the relevant email addresses in the lists at the beginning of the mag, and flood them with your complaints and suggestions. They may then realise they're losing a sizeable chunk of their readership and do something about it.
11. Excellent to hear you guys have got next year's date already! Do create a new thread for the 2018 bash, and I'll pin it so you can start planning it from now.
12. Some of the 400-odd photos I took will follow in due course. Great gig, excellent vibe, awe-inspiring musicianship.
13.
Doesn't he have his own transport? ;-)
Yes he usually does. Two Basschatters in a car are bad enough, according to ROConnell.
14.
2 bass-chatters in a single car, I couldn't think of anything worse!!!
When MacDaddy gets a lift there are three of us in the car...
15.
TimR?
Nope!
16.
I didn't recognise many of the brands or guests from this year's event - is that the problem?
Really? David Ellefson of up-and-coming metal band Megadeth. Glen Matlock of near-unknown Sex Pistols (and many others after them) Andy Rourke of - who they? - The Smiths. Stu Hamm of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai bands. Etc. Shuker. Spector. Markbass. Musicman. Barefaced. Vanderkley. ACG Cort. Etc. Scott Devine. Chris May of Overwater. Geoff Chalmers. Steve Lawson. Etc.
17. Different angle and light:
18. During the weekend I've taken just over 2,000 photos, exceeding all my previous LBGS counts.
19.
The event was little less busy than last year, fewer exhibitors but that, if anything, was a positive. Less volume - and it wasn't just the slappers playing too loud. Managed to get an item signed by all the celeb players and exhibitors ready for the Herts Bash - many thanks to Guy Meredith from Bass Player Mag who went out of his way to help despite being run ragged. Good man.
I'm guessing that the reason why the show may have looked a bit less crowded to you, Mick, is that this year there are several more rooms outside the main hall and the auditorium/masterclass areas. The luthiers' area and Scott's room were pretty full of people most of the time, and when it was chucking out time from both rooms the whole show looked and felt a lot more cramped! As for the exhibitors, some of the big names seem to have been replaced by a lot of new (to this country), highly original luthiers, many of whom are based in Europe as opposed to the States. I see it as a good thing, Brexit notwithstanding...
20. And our Chris Sharman has an NBD - he was at the show with his wife, who approved the purchase. Happy Shuker NBD Chris! Edit: the GAS-inducing Shukers in full view
21. The shopping centre at Ealing Broadway has a large car park too. Anyone know if Hammersmith still has one? However, I agree with those who don't recommend driving to Olympia. The nearby Kensington High Street is a shopping destination and it creates complete chaos in the area throughout the week. I'm lucky enough to live less than 20 minutes by bus from the venue, provided I travel outside the shopping rush hour, which I will do anyway. See you guys there on both days! wear your lanyards - I'll be wearing mine.
22. I've tweeted this thread to Basschat's followers. Hope you get your gear back.
23. By the way, I've now created the Facebook Event for this bash too.
