1. Should have posted this 6 weeks ago but forgot - Chiswick Club Society, on Oct 10. http://flic.kr/s/aHskPBafyz
2. Tickets soon on sale too. http://www.londonbassguitarshow.com/buy-tickets/
3. Take a sliding gauge, measure the thickness of the E string, and see if it's actually a 110 as the pack says. Your fingers alone might not be able to feel the difference with your old, thinner set. Do the same for the A string if that feels weirdly thin too.
4. There is a dedicated forum for live footage and pics: http://basschat.co.uk/forum/94-live-photos-%26-videos/ I'll be moving this thread over there eventually; for the moment, hopefully more people will have the opportunity to notice its existence.
5. YAY!! Standing by for advertising on Twitter and creating the FB event in due course.
6. You mean the one(s) on my blog,? Of course you can. You can even download the original from Flickr if you so wish.
7. Yes - got to your first post, click Edit, then choose Use Full Editor.
8. Yup, that's how it's currently done. Hopefully this thread will have reminded Basschatters of the Gigs forum's existence.
9. If you want Basschatters to know about your gig, and they're not among your friends, then FB is absolutely pointless. No amount of doing it right will change the algorythm - even on personal profiles, a person's post will not be seen by all their friends unless they have less than 100 or so.* *Probably should have said 'unless the numbers of friends involved on both the poster's and the receiver's side is low'
10.
And the reason it's underused on BC is that there are already a million - better placed - platforms out there for this kind of resource. Facebook, Twitter, local gig guides...
At least if you post here, your post will be seen by anyone who goes to the relevant forum, as opposed to your post being a victim of a mysterious algorythm that shows it only to a small, random percentage of your followers unless you pay for promotion. Facebook and Twitter have had their day. Local gig guides are rarely up to date, unless you mean walking to a pub on the day and reading the boards outside it. There is a strong argument for Basschatters to post their gigs on here, in the Gigs forum. However, its presence needs to be more widely known. Those who follow Basschat on Twitter will know that I bang on about the Gigs forum almost every weekend, but as I said, Twitter as a useful platform is pretty much over, so more effort is needed on here. So, let's have a bump! http://basschat.co.uk/forum/11-gigs/
11.
I thought you were omnipotent
Shhhh...
12.
It is a good resource that is very underused. Would probably be more use to people looking for a band if it good be divided into areas like North West,South East etc. Would that be a lot of work to do bluejay ?
I am not allowed to create extra subforums, so I will have to submit your suggestion to the admin/global mods team.
13. When you guys have finalised the date and address, please create a new thread in this Events forum, and I (or Lurksalot) will pin it to the top, and then I'll plug it on Twitter and create an event on Facebook.
14. The threads in the Gigs forum usually don't need much discussion, so the vast majority tend to consist of one post. In that respect, the forum is one long list, and can be read as such, or searched through using the search function in the top right-hand corner.
15. http://basschat.co.uk/forum/11-gigs/ The more Basschatters post their gigs there, the more useful that forum will become for both bands and potential local punters. So, guys, use it or lose it!
16. My guitarist ex swore by the Floyd Rose bridge setup (with heavy-metal-ready whammy bar...). He's one of the few guitarists I never noticed needing to tune up after each song.
17. Hope to see you at the next one! Stop me and say hi if you see me walking around with my cameras and clipboard.
18. Incidentally, Sting is featured in the new issue of Bass Guitar Magazine, out next week.
19. Manufacturers don't pay BGM for reviews; the items to review are chosen because they're new on the market or interesting in other ways. The reviewers have a common template to follow in their articles; they are obliged to be factual with the information quoted (technical specs, custom options etc.) and are expected to express their own opinion, whether positive or negative, without being influenced by any correspondence they may have had with the manufacturer while looking for information. You won't see anybody writing that 'x is utter rubbish': you have to express your opinion in polite, factual terms, and justify your statements. If a reviewer doesn't like something, they'll say so.
20. Thank you guys! Pete, thanks for that - caption amended.
21. Right, the blog with the rest of the photos (as well as those already published here) is finally up! http://wp.me/p2ZbyY-xd Let me know of any errors and omissions. Thanks!
22. I've just tweeted this thread as Basschat. I'll also Facebook it now. Good luck, hope you recover it all.
23. Long-suffering Happy Jack came with me to one of Tragedy's gigs in London, despite hating heavy metal and not being a huge Bee Gees fan. He's definitely a keeper...
24. Yup! I was in my early teens in the late 70s, so I was into disco in a big way. Then I discovered the band's back catalogue. Then in the 80s I got into heavy metal (the kind that's now called trad metal), but never abandoned the Bee Gees.
