South East Bass Bash No.10, Surrey, Saturday 24th September 2016
Silvia Bluejay replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
That's great, Nik, thank you. I'll create the usual downloadable info sheet as soon as we have the final schedule. -
This Chinese-made P-bass copy has had a traumatic few days while being flown around Europe on its way to London. We disassembled and put body and neck into two suitcases which got lost in transit, then finally reached us on Sunday. I have re-built the bass with no problem, but it now makes no sound. Removal of the scratchplate has revealed what looks like a detached wire starting from the jack socket. My problem, as a non Precision player, is that I can't seem to fathom where the wire should be re-soldered. Given the short length of the wire, I imagine it needs to go in/on one of the three eyelets on the pot with the capacitor. But which eyelet? There is some solder on the left eyelet, but it seems to be there to hold the capacitor, not as a residue of a failed connection. So maybe the middle eyelet? Or even the currently clean one on the right? Can any of you experts help? Since this isn't an original Fender, the wiring diagrams I have found online look a bit different. Thanks in advance Edit: I've checked again, and the free wire is actually longer than I thought! Maybe it's actually the volume pot that needs to connect to it?

Some basses have the neck set deeper into the body than others. If 34 inch feels fine, you shouldn't have too many problems in finding another bass to your liking, as it's the most common scale. Best to have a play on each model before buying, though.
-
34 inch is long scale; you could try short scale (usually 32 inch but sometimes less). Both Spector and Warwick will probably offer short scale versions of some of their models, although the choice will be limited.

Here's a rarity - 1950s Framus Triumph EUB
Silvia Bluejay replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The modern version is made by Warwick and is still called Triumph (or Triumph Lite in the cheaper Rockbass line). The old and new versions do look very similar! -
You've probably filled your allocated space for uploading on Basschat. I would recommend uploading the photos to flickr or similar and linking to them in your post, as opposed to uploading directly into your post.

Spouses, do they like or hate your instruments?

Oooo that's a gap in the market someone could exploit! -

I would pick up my other half's basses and play them, but they're all right-handed, so I have my own instead, and that doubles the number of basses in the house. Wait till I find and buy a lefty double bass... At least we can share amps and cabs. -

That would be great, Andy! An absolute first! Happy to try at either of your DBs if you can make it, simply take the one that's more convenient. Should I end up owning a lefty DB in the future, I would probably go for the softest gut-like strings available, given my small, not very strong hands; then again, my uprights are strung with steels, so for the bash, either type would do.

Jack, the key was initially Emaj but we changed it to Ab min because it was too easy.
