1. So far the following guests have been announced for stage performances and masterclasses (in no particular order): Dave Swift Peter Hook Rhino of Status Quo Michael Manring Neil Fairclough And... see the new issue of BGM for the latest addition! (The name hasn't been posted on FB or Twitter yet, so I won't spoil the surprise.) \m/ \m/
2. Got mine too. Am I right in thinking that they want their reviews in the shape of a questionnaire to fill in (the packaging gives the link of an online form) as opposed to a 300-word article/post?
3. There's a similar thread to this in General Discussion too! I have a name ('Andy') for my first upright - the Harley Benton I turned from righty to lefty - but not for my second upright, which is simply 'the NS 5'.
4. Well, if guitarists name their axes fancy names such as Lucille, why shouldn't we do the same with our basses? I started giving names to my bass guitars, but after the fourth purchase things got silly (I now have 10, plus 2 uprights). So now I simply describe them (the fretless Corvette 5, the Bass Collection, the Fortress 5, etc.). My first upright is still called Andy (don't ask). I have always thought of my basses as male - probably because the name is masculine in Italian; they say 'il basso', not 'la chitarra bassa'. (Italian has no neuter gender.)
5. I've mentioned this thread to Hans-Peter Wilfer, and he said he's going to look into it.
6. Yes. Basschat's service provider is fighting another denial of service attack.
7. Welcome to the forum, both of you! We've all been beginners - in fact I often still say 'Que pena' to myself (also in other assorted languages if appropriate) on particularly bad bass-playing days... Get involved in the forum: there are experts who will be happy to advise you on anything you may have queries about. And making music is always fun
8. Official Basschat FB event added here: http://www.facebook.com/events/868955473225283/
9. No prob! The links are now there and working, and I've moved this topic to the correct folder.
10. New Year's Eve 2015 at The Sussex Arms in Twickenham! The pub was rammed, there was no space to put decent lighting, but we had a lot of fun! Happy Jack went a little overboard with his headgear. Complete set of pics here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskrYfY3J First video here: https://youtu.be/tBCzw7Cmqtw
11. Have you posted a live video? I can only see an empty space in your post. Can you please try again, and post it under Live Photos and Videos instead? (Or if you prefer, edit your post here and I'll move this thread to the correct place.)
12. Very nice pub, great beer, hog roast, free gig. Nuff said. Come along if you're in the area
13. Yes it does. No point in having good ideas and then losing the will to live through attempting to use MS Word to turn them into posters.
14. I work on the Junkyard Dogs' posters in Photoshop Elements, which is a cheap, 'lite' version of the program, and does all I need for posters, from the simplest to the most complicated design. Quick learning curve too, especially if you have previous experience of page design (for instance Quark).
15. I'm sure you'd receive more interest if you added a couple of photos.
16. Placeholding thread for the moment - just put the date in the diary and make sure you attend the bash. It's the 10th anniversary and it will be special! Usual venue: Jubilee High School, School Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 1TE. Watch this space
17. A very happy Christmas to you too, Nik! SE Bash 2016 in diary - we'll get to work on it soon, and we'll make it special.
18. Welcome to the forum, Mark. I'll tweet your diaries to our followers later today.
19.
Although I was born in the UK, I grew up elsewhere and this fascination with supposed "class" is equally fascinating and baffling. From the outside looking in it looks like a self-imposed categorisation which doesn't exist except in the minds of those who subscribe to the notion. I can't think of any other country where the social origin they were born into in would be factored into the potential or authenticity of a band. It's an amazing concept to think of yourself in that way.
Absolutely spot on.
20. They've just announced Hooky's back on the Sunday! Edit - see here: http://www.londonbassguitarshow.com/news-2/legendary-bassist-peter-hook-to-perform-at-lbgs-2016/
21. Christmassy Halfway House, Barnes, last Saturday https://flic.kr/s/aHskr9ktzT
22. Not sure what the problem is here - Chromes are extremely low tension, while Fenders are stiff as steel rods. Any bass neck will be able to cope with either and anything in between, if set up correctly: not just the truss rod but also the saddle height for the action and, if you're a lucky Warwick owner, the nut height.
