Fitting a B string in a tight bridge
Silvia Bluejay replied to Grangur's topic in Repairs and Technical
Does it have the old one-piece bridge? On all the Rockbasses I have (5-stringers) I opted for stripping the low B of its silk, but that might not be enough. I wouldn't see a probllem with filing the actual hole, providing you mask the surrounding area carefully to avoid damaging the finish, and take care not to allow rust to develop on the bare metal (if relevant). -

South East Bass Bash No.9, Surrey, Saturday 26th September 2015
Sheffield Wednesday at home. You need to arrange these events around the fixtire list. Never been able to make one yet!
The school had only a few dates available, Ad - and checking all fixtures, for all teams, in every kind of sports activity any SE Basschatter might be interested in would be as impossible as guessing how many of us will be gigging that evening, and therefore unable to attend. Hope you and Shelley and Smaz will be able to come along to the next one! -

Diary appears to be free on that day, so I'll add my name to this list in due course. I'll tweet this thread tomorrow (and repeat periodically) and create a Facebook event in a week or so. I would love to see a seminar about playing double bass (any aspect/point of view/purpose you may choose to talk about). Thanks Nik and Colin! -
Aagggghhh no!!!!
Surely you are not going to get any trouble from uber-cool, bass-friendly Louisa! And incidentally, in two-bassist households neither person complains at the other's GAS, which is fine, but the number of basses and amount of related gear can end up becoming rather worrying!
-
They may not heve permission to do so, at least for a certain amount of time. Don't lose heart.
-
12 basses (guitars and uprights) so far, 2 of them second hand, the others new from the shop. All of them are going to stay. I'm not in a band nor am I planning to join one. All that is absolutely normal. Er... next question?
-
Keep pestering them, then, until they find a solution for you.
-
I've just tweeted this thread. Good luck.
The editor, Joel McIver, is a member here - pm him.
Although he does editorial and page layout, not apps or the website, so I think using the email address relevant to the ios app is the right way to go - just give them a little time to reply.

Thanks Edwin! Redressing the lefty/righty balance might take me another 2,000 years, so I'd better crack on... <- (lefty icon)

Yet another improved video: Andrew Needham's talk. We may eventually get round to doing something about the harsh lighting on Andy's face, but at least now his voice and the questions are audible, thanks to Annoying Twit's editing efforts. If you don't want to bother taking the strings off, you can use this (I've got one, and it's all right, if the bass isn't too dirty): http://www.amazon.co.uk/MusicNomad-String-Surface-Hardware-Cleaning/dp/B008FDSWJ0 Otherwise, a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with this: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_polish_set.htm, plus some elbow grease
Bang on. The Battle Of Bethnal Green where that skinhead tried to glass a black guy and damned near cut his own hand off, the White Horse in Ruislip where there was a stage invasion by drunken pikeys (no, really, this happened) who threatened violence if we didn't let their 12 year old sing ... I wouldn't go through those gigs again for love nor money, but they're astonishing memories to have for a nice, quiet, middle-class professional.
Jack it was the White Bear, not the White Horse - wrong animal! (And that's before we get to the other animals, those who were threatening the band but luckily leaving their roadie/photographer sitting undisturbed in a dark corner...)

New upload - single-camera video of the Fretboard Challenge with improved audio courtesy of Annoying Twit and his hard work in the face of all kinds of technical difficulties (and he also has a job and a life...!): https://youtu.be/ZHcQhgMxDW4 I have deleted the old one. Edited blog still at same location: http://wp.me/p2ZbyY-sZ

Guys and gals, quick update: I have mentioned the 'thin and small' typeface problem to Joel, and he is looking into doing something about it. Watch this space
-
It is a nice bass, even to someone like me who usually doesn't like those Wal-like body shapes. In addition to the new set of TIs, we also gave the entire bass a good scrub with Thomann's guitar care spray, with special attention to the fingerboard and frets. Very few dings or worn-out areas overall, so definitely a good buy for Jack

Thanks Chris!

Or even tonight! I'm expecting a photo session - in addition to the photos I'll take at the gig - during the weekend. Stay tuned!

LOL Jack has now been turned from Precision Man to Thunderbird Man in one fell swoop...
