1. If you can get it a lot closer to Cardiff, I'll have it. A big if, though, for a big bass!
2. And if you are, or know someone who is good with Excel, the notation can be copied into a spreadsheet, cropped and printed off to sit on the music stand like a normal piece of music for normal people.
3. Thanks Rob. You're a gent.
4. I bought it but haven't used it because the print is much too small to be of any use. If anyone has found a solution to this, I'd love to hear it. Cheers!
5. SteveO, many thanks for taking the time and trouble to share your knowledge and experience. Buying 2nd hand pianos can be a tricky business!
6. Wot gallery's that then Ted?
7. If you don't want the case, and no-one else is after it, then I'll have it back!
8. Too rich for my purse, alas. I'll go for the smaller version with the cheaper price tag and the longer wait ... and I'll have to wait at that. (The scaffolding has gone! The roof no longer leaks!)
9. That is a beautiful baby!
10.
Last day for this Ampeg - very tempted!
Go on, go on, go on. If Clarky doesn't buy that K&K Baby Bass then I will want it. And we have scaffolding up and skips outside, so there's not a lot of money at the moment ...
11. The EUB will always be a handy back up though
12.
. I am coming round to the idea of just getting an acoustic bass anyway so it may solve the problem.
There you go! (And snap up that generous trial offer of the weich strings - they are splendid on a proper old wardrobe.)
13. That is good news! I wondered if you'd had a look at Kenny Werner's Effortless Mastery? Following his regime you're only allowed to practice for five minutes a day anyway. Back pain and visits to the bone cruncher mean that I have to restrict my practice at the moment. I got too impatient with Kenny Werner though, so I'm using the time to study music theory. After a while, it starts to make sense!
14. I had this answer yesterday@ 'Hi Sarah, Once the project is underway I may travel out of London. I'll keep you my list. Many thanks for the reply. Andy' So now we know he wants to stay in London if possible! Come on, BlueJay! Yeah!
15. Well, as a non-photogenic 50-something, I thought I'd find out a bit more so I answered his ad. We'll see ...!
16. I have had three terms worth of Alexander Technique lessons with Lynne Cartlidge (I kid you not) in Cardiff. I also went on a residential weekend, which was like being on holiday with a bunch of extremely pleasant lunatics. It has certainly improved my use of my body, not just in playing but in many areas. My son, who is a professional music teacher, found it helped him when he had to learn to play the banjo and the mandolin in a short space of time. The downside is that it is expensive. I'm taking a break from it because of the expense, but will probably return to it in the future. In the lesson it's easy to hear and feel the difference, but replicating that at home is a different matter. It's all about being relaxed and having some understanding of how our bodies are actually put together - for instance, that muscles contract when they are in use. In summary, it's like going on a fantastic adventure without leaving the room.
17. Our very own Geoff has done some great, free, online lessons available here: https://www.youtube.com/user/DiscoverDoubleBass But do feel free to ask any questions. You'll find a lot of very friendly and helpful people on here. Welcome to the site.
18. Unsolicited advice is rarely welcome. Smile, say 'excuse me' and go off to do something more interesting. Like going to the toilet.
19. Congrats on the double bass. Have you got any photos to show us? Spiro Weich (the purple ones) come along rarely second hand and get snapped up quickly IMO. I ended up buying new, but combined with a lower action have really helped me to get those long notes ringing out. Welcome back to the upright world.
20. Good for you. Well done.
21. Welcome Ev! Brilliant news. What a Christmas xxx
22. I've learnt so much great stuff and met fantastic people through the DB lounge. Great big hugs to all you cool dudes out there xxxxxxxxxxxxx
23. Thankyou Richard. Someone else was telling me about this recently and I'd been meaning to look it up. Happy Christmas!
24. I asked Phil if he'd heard from kontrabass.de. He said he'd now had an email asking for his payment details and his address. Then nothing. He was very sorry but this wouldn't be my Christmas present. He would sort it out after Christmas. Today a big parcel arrived from Germany. It says Lando music on it. It rattles when I shake it. Wayhay!!!!
