  1. Had the pleasure of meeting John yesterday at Elland Road. We shared a box watching Leeds v Derby. Despite being a Derby fan, he was truly a lovely guy. Really friendly and good fun. Even showed an interest in my bass activities despite his amazing back catalogue. Now looking forward to Asia at Holmfirth in June.

  2. Hiya - just bought this. Now not usually a 5 stringer, in fact this is my first, but borrowed a pals and really liked it. Been chasing one of these for a while after my pals Ibanez SR695 was so nice and finally got one at the right price. Really happy with the condition. Was a bit grimy, had a couple of crackly pots, a missing string and even strap locks attached. Whacked on a set of DR Black Beautys, contact cleaner, fret polish, clean up, lemon oil, new battery. Perfect. Plays like a dream and loving the low B. Not sure I am ready to gig it but it has an enormous range of tones. Happy buyer. Hope you like it.

  3. I recently found a Harvest Bass Case at a uk retailer. Was on their website. Contacted them to buy they wouldn't ship. I offered to pay extra. No, only available if I went in. Being 200 miles away, I declined and bought direct from Germany. Good luck staying in business guys!

    Where u at buddy?
If you are close u can try out various combos of rays/bongo!
Stingrays lend themselves to playing hard and digging in well, due to to the big bridge (but Bernard was a tickler and he had AWESOME tone obvs)
The 18v 4 band pre in a bongo is something entirely differant. u can really REALLY sculpt your sound. I prefer rays thru a big old valve amp hit hard, but a bongo thru a big old SS amp for nuance and definition. Easily outclasses the pre in many very expensive boutique basses. Just dont get one at home for playing on your knee, because the lower horn Knacks! :)

If JBF opts to come to Leeds to try Roons Rays out, I will happily bring along my 93 maple 2EQ with dampers for him to try at the same time. Let me know if it happens and we can sort it.

  5. Just been having fun in Hamburg over the weekend. Found a bar called Zwick (a kind of hard rock cafe type place). The bar was festooned with Bass Guitars. On the surface, looked amazing but when you looked closer, there was a real motley crew of guitars. Lots of really cheap copies, unbranded copies, a double sized headless Warwick look a like, some weird things with Ricky type bodies and Fender type heads. Interesting but bizarre. Oh, and a Baldwin. Anyone else been? Was like the Mos Eisley of basses

  6. Had the pleasure of seeing Wilco at The Shepherds Bush Empire on Tues night. He was joined by Roger Daltrey, Mick Talbot (ex Style Council) and of course the magnificent Mr Norman Watt-Roy. The night was great but I could not take my eyes of Norman. Have seen him before but usually through a crowd of bodies whereas this time, I was on the balcony so could watch him do his thing with a perfect view. He works his @ss off. What a player. Big respect and obviously to Wilco. On the night my pals met up with Messrs Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond sporting a groovy tweed jacket and jeans look! Nice!

  7. I feel you pain brother. Back in the 80s, my band was beginning to get a bit of local recognition and we were offered a gig at my fave venue The Warehouse. We were a tad giddy. On the night though, we had to be there at about 6. Went on at about 12 by which time I was completely pissed. Needless to say, I was awful. I remember thinking that someone was way out of key, yes....was me.....shame

Needless to say, we were never asked back, the band fell out with me and as a result I now never drink ever when gigging. Oh ...... the 80s.....

  8. One of my pals who I play with at a bi monthly open mike night has asked that we do this. Next Sunday is the day. Luckily I have both shorts and baseball cap. Just as well cos I couldn't grow the beard! What could possibly go wrong.......?
