I managed to get the DVD directly from Roland. Is great, I have learned lots from it however. Is still freakin confusing around how the drums get recorded!! Back to the drawing board I guess Is a great bit of kit though. AND Roland have just sent me a free 1GB Compact Flash Card after I complained that I couldnt get one. Great service Andy

I use an Ampeg B100 R combo. Is absolutely fantastic. Goes in the car, relatively lightweight, sounds perfect and looks cool. Have even played live with it via DI in to PA Andy

Hiya, I bought a 70s Jap SG copy in need of lots of TLC as a "project". So far has sat untouched and waiting for me to start sorting it. Anyway, I bought a blank sheet of lovely Pickguard perspex to make the pickguard and backplate. Has anyone ever tried to cut and shape these? what is the best method? Any advice would be welcome. Am still confused as to why I thought I would have the expertise to do this, I sit behind a PC for a living for god's sake! Cheers A
So the cover arrived 9 days later. I was utterly ecstatic - the build quality is superb, but it was a couple of inches too short. I emailed Shaun and told him my problem, and he showed concern and took all the relevant information. I haven't heard from him since then - it's been nearly two weeks, and I've sent him a few emails, but he hasn't replied. I don't know whether he's in the process of making a replacement, or if he's ignoring me and hoping that I go away. UPDATE (Wed): I've had a reply. The replacement has been made, but he was waiting for me to send the old one back. FINAL UPDATE (Fri): I sent the old one back on Wednesday, and the replacement arrived this morning. No problems with it. I'm slightly annoyed that the whole thing ended up costing an extra £5.72 (for posting the incorrect one back) but I suppose this is probably a rare occurrence. S.P.
This isn't a one off unfortunately. I also ordered one, Sean was a top guy. It came, and was wrong size. He agreed to pick it up and supply another one and said in lieu of the bad service, would give me a better model. I was delighted. Pick up happened within a week or so but then took emails, phone calls and pestering from me to get the replacement. Only arrived after I asked for my money back!! guess what, was the freaking standard model I had originally ordered. Took about a month to arrive and I wouldn't use them again as their service appears to be a lottery which is a shame because I genuinely liked the guy.

For what it is worth, I also had one and these are freakin awesome basses. I sold mine 3 years ago for a fair bit more than this is being sold at so this is a great buy. They play like a dream and have a really wide range of sounds due to the Moog electrics. They also look cool as but are bloomin' heavy. Good luck with the sale, someone is gonna get a bargain Andy

Hi all, I have a horrible buzz on my Ricky. Started a few months back and buzzes when near my amps, if i move it away it reduces and increases when moved near again. Took it in to a local shop where they potted the pickups and screened the cavities - no change. Then they had a quick tinker with the jack solder joints - this appeared to slightly reduce it but not a great deal. They are now scratching their heads and I dint know what to try next. Is not the amp either, doesnt happen with any other of my guitars. Any ideas? Also, I wanna buy or make a thumb rest for it similar to P Bass. I want to screw through the existing pickguard scew holes so the rest is longer than a Fender one. Anyone know where I might get one OR even just a piee of perspex that I could make one from? Cheers Andy

I am selling my beloved Ampeg SVT 810E cab. You all know the one, the absolute daddy of bass cabs. Just got a smaller car now so is a problem transporting so have downsized to a 4 x 10. Bought it March 06 new from Soundcontrol in Leeds for £850. Used about 20 times and has lived in a custom made vinyl case ever since (cost £80). In great condition as you can imagine given its limited use and covering since new. Still have receipts and tags too. Bargain at just £550. Collection from Leeds or you are welcome to arrange courier. Can send pics if you need but I guess you know what they look like. Go on....you know you want to.....Andy

Can anyone shed light on Ohmage for me? I am aware that there are optimum mixtures of it between amps and cabs but honestly dont know what the mix should be or the effect of having mismatches. Cheers Andy

Anything that other band members do that wind you up

What about the creative singer who without prior warning or agreement sings alternative melodys, phrasing and even words when I am trying to sing backing vocals? Not good, OR the noisy guitarist who makes a racket over the bass/vocals soundcheck? just put it down you noisy f@ck*r !!! -
Wondered what people use to keep leads etc in? I have a nice foamed out case with rack tuner, radio kit and enough room for my leads. Trouble is, it is so well packed there isnt room for owt else so......now I have a bag too with a couple of pedals and extra bits and pieces as well. Are there any commercially available examples you know of? has anyone ever branded such a thing? what do you use?...........
Ampeg B100R Made in U.S.A. Bought new in November 1998. Excellent condition apart from some stitching on handle coming apart. I originally bought this as a rig just for doing theatre/pit gigs etc as I had a 400w 4 by 10 Marshall head and cab but ended up selling the Marshall as the Ampeg was more than adequate even for the loudest bands I have played with including a VERY loud Bowie tribute band I occasionally dep'd for! This rig sounds much louder than 100w as a visit to Harmony Central will confirm. £300 PICKUP ONLY. I am in Leeds. Call 07833 174174.
Is it still for sale? can I come and have aplay? I am in leeds too. If OK, will probably buy it just havent played one and want a smaller combo for rehearsal and maybe small gigs (got the Ampeg 8x10 and 450 head so not really portable) Give me a call if ya like Andy 07710 015834
thanks mate - appreciate the plug. Can't believe I missed this thread. Looks like Andy and I will be doing the deal next week. If we had more room and my daughters were remotely interested in playing I would gladly keep it. I'm sure his young'un will be a very happy bunny
Yep, thanks all, great advice. looking forward to getting the little Gretsch and Roland combo now. Shame Nick and I live 200 miles apart !! Thanks again Andy

My 9 year old is keen to learn the black art of bass playing. Trouble is he is a shrimp so my Ricky, P Bass and Stingray are too big, he cant reach the bottom of the neck. I have a shortscale Epiphone Rivoli which fits better but the semi body is too big again. I guess my dilema is, do I buy a cheap 3/4 scale new bass (which will likely have a cr@p action and playability) or buy something like a Musicmaster which is short and should have decent playability? Typically, none about right now except at too much money. OR is there another cunning plan someone can shere with me? Waddya think? what would YOU do? Andy

cheers Bassfunk, I should have said, we are all aged 40ish, a drummers age aint an issue for us but would understand if ours was for them ! Thanks again though. Andy

Now I know it's not a bassist however, we need a drummer as soon as possible for a Leeds based rock/punk/indie anthem cover band. Play a couple of times a month, rehearse once a week. Experience and vocals desireable but ability and good attitude a must. We have PA, transport and are ready to go as soon as poss. We are in it for fun and to make a bit of beer money. If anyone fancies it, or knows anyone who might fit the bill, please get in touch. Cheers. Andy
