1. I've been researching a mega-rig and have come up with the following;

Ampeg svt pro 7 or Hartke Kilo
Barefaced big twin and compact

I did check out Aguilar but heads are so expensive I'm not sure they're worth the extra £££
What do u think? - v interested to hear comments from BF users...
Thanks
JB

2. I've got a tc bh500 amp with built in compressor but it cuts far too much frequency even at a very low operation. Who does the best compressor where u can control all parameters pl guys?

3. I'm going to trade up my TC Rig and have been looking at the following:

Aguilar DB750 amp & 8x 10 DB cab £3k

Hartke LH1000 amp and 2x BF Big Twins £2,750

Ampeg SVT pro 7 amp and 8x10 cab £1,800

I've tried out the Aguilar rig and its awesome.
Also tried the Ampeg one and its great (though not quite up to Aguilar sound quality).
I would expect the Barefaced Rig to be completely outrageous but havent tried this out yet,

I'm also wondering about longevity of manufacturer - and so Ampeg is looking good on this and the price front.

What would u do??
Thanks
JB

4. I insured my rig/guitar a year ago and now (after properly reading the terms and conditions) I realize that the insurers will only pay out if:

1. The moon is made of cheese
2. I can produce a picture of the gunman on the grassy knoll
3. I know Lord Lucan's email address
4. I can find an honest politician
5. The locks on my car have been tested and certified by Fort Knox
6. You claim on a Tuesday and its not raining

Are there any reasonable insurance companies who insure kit at gigs/in transport (and who have actually paid out) etc?

thanks
JB

5. Nice rig dude!

There really does seem to be a general move towards BF cabs - main reasons seem to be;

1. Personalized customer service is second to none
2. Owners really understand sound from a bass player's perspective
3. Very robust kit
4. Sounds great/cuts through mix
5. High quality build/components
6. 30 day return guarantee
7. It defies physics - its not heavy :)

I'm looking to upgrade TC cabs/amp in Jan '12 and BF is def in the running - also looking at Aguilar and Ampeg to compare.

Have a good one guys!

6. OMG!
I tried out this amp today - I tried to sell one of my kidneys to the shop but they declined!
It's very impressive - loud but with real quality/depth and it felt like it should just have a 'power reserve' gauge / like a new Rolls Royce does.
Definately the next trade up from my current BH500. TC do seem to be investing loads into client demand/the bass cognoscenti

7. I've been using Rotosound Swing 66's for a while on a Warwick corvette five string but am getting p'd off that their tone doesn't seem to last long and they're expensive. Anyone clean strings using meths? Does it work?
I think I'll try out either Warwick black labels or Elixir coated - any views/experience anyone?
JB

8. TC Electronic have been excellent - really wanted to help/'own' the problem. I'll def buy my next rig from them.
I'm also impressed (again) with the comaraderie of bass players - they are by far the most helpful, civilized and friendly members of any band.
:)

i have properly installed front and side led's in green on my Vester argus bass, its the best thing i have ever done!
visibilty is never a problem now even in too.bright/dark stage conditions (or when my hair is in the way)
i never want to play any of my other basses now i dont think i could live without them.
overall expensive but definitly worth it.
i have seen the fretfx ones in the flesh and they seem pretty cool for the cash but not a patch on the real thing.

Hey Winterfire - what did they cost to get installed??

10. As lighting engineers/designers seem to get more....'creative' many gigs end up pretty dark and fret reference can be hard - unless you have fantastic muscle/arm/spatial co-ordination in pitch black. Has anyone used fretfx markers or alternative and are they worth the RRP or did u get LED's inlaid?

cheers

11. Thanks to all for responding to my amp issue - especially Darren at Bassmerchant (he was excellent/it's criminal they're closing down).
One more question..when D tested my amp he went through RS210 and 212 spkrs which sounded great /very rich (using Spector). I ramped the amp up when I got home through BC210 & 212 (with amp set flat) and using WArwick corvette with brand new strings and sound is 'woody'/no real body. Could this be totally down to superiority of RS cabs???
The BCs are 250w and RS 400..
Cheers guys

12. Hi Guys
Need u're help...
I've got a BH500 and 2x10 and 2x12 matched cabs....my problem is that the amp doesn't sound very loud ( I have to play on 8/10) at normal pub gigs. I use a Warwick Corvette and Sansamp programmable preamp.I'm surprised that it seems that players rate the BH500 for its volume. Any ideas/suggestions very welcome! My band doesnt play exceptionally loud so I don't see that as the problem. I'm now thinking that I may have to trade up to a 750w amp or even higher!! Is this the reason TC have bought out the Blacksmith??

cheers!!
JB
