if it really was that bad set that as a benchmark you never wish to return to and im sure you will all look back and laugh about "that gig" in years to come and the more gigs you do the more you learn what works for the band your next gig will be a good un im sure!

i think the most overkill i saw was a pub gig whre the bassist had 3 basses on stands if i remember it was a rickenbacker a stingray and a fender all normally tuned looks nice, but when i was gigging my main bass and a backup in the van sometimes, i also had a fancy topped g&l usa but i was afraid to play it it looked too nice so sold it on

good on you fella first gig is a buzz1 i tried the mean and moody look which all my fave bass players the ox jj burnell neil murray and all and a few gigs in was informed by a punter i looked disinterested so after that i embraced just playing bass and having fun full on!

i agree i was watching some bass playing on youtube the other week i forget who it was some virtuoso of the bass and i sat there thinking why dont you just buy a guitar because in a band situation with a singer how is that kind of playing any real use alot of notes and fancy technique but no real feeling and i just came to the conclusion he was an only child who wanted attention
