It's a bit annoying that the fretless model has pretty much the same finish, but no pickguard. I know that gives it the 'Jaco' vibe (if not make it an absolute copy), but even so it's a bit disappointing.
Thomann also sell the Harley Benton scratchplates separately if you have a nosey in their parts section. Tortoiseshell for about £15 or pearl for around £19 if you wanted to add to the fretless.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. The wax sticks sound just the job.

Hi there, I've recently taken the scratchplate off my Epi Thunderbird for a nosey what's underneath and have decided I quite like it that way. The only problem is the screw holes - the finish is a dark sunburst so the pale wood of the holes stand out more than I'd like. Does anyone know of a good way to completely hide the holes or at least disguise them a bit? Yours hopefully... Neil

For my own amusement I fancy putting together a compilation of songs featuring singing bassists. I've got a few ideas but who would you choose and what song?

Fret access up at the dusty end is spot on, no problems at all.

Yup Pocket GK does the job. I also use an app called JamUp which is also free and offers a bit more flexibility IMO. Both allow you to slow down the music for practice which helps. As for actually connecting your bass I use a Peavey AmpKit Link gadget which works fine for me but there's plenty of options out there.

Just for a bit of closure I'd thought I'd put it out there that I got this sorted. I considered taking back to the shop but got in touch with Ashdown tech support first who responded within a few hours suggesting it sounded like a dodgy valve. Another question or two later (also answered very promptly) and they'd advised me how to get into the amp to change the valve and also accurately predicted which of the two was duff. A trip to my local music shop and a bit of DIY later and the problem is now solved. Thanks Ashdown!

Hi chaps - I'm hoping someone can shed some light on a problem I've just noticed. I've got a Ashdown 220 Dual Tube combo that is producing a mains type buzz/hum at all times. It gets louder when the master volume is turned up even when the amp is muted but none of the other controls affect it at all. It also does it regardless of whether anything is plugged in so basses, cables and stomp boxes can't be the problem. Anybody else experienced similar? Thanks in anticipation! Neil

I've got the Spirit double neck too. I'd wanted something along those line since seeing an old picture of Mike Rutherford with a stunning one-off headless Status double neck in the 80's. I saw mine in a shop in Manchester and instantly fell for it - the sheer madness of it if nothing else! The bass plays well and sound pretty good, the guitar plays well but the pickups are a bit weedy. Oh, and it weighs a ton.

A Boss OC-3 Octave pedal from my better half. V happy! -
Any update on this? I'm missing the mobile version of the site, proving tricky to use the new full site on "i" devices.

I hadn't twigged Vox and Korg were part of the same company. That's quite reassuring - Korg know their digital onions as it were. They've certainly been doing it long enough to figure out how to avoid "tone suck". Now, if only a shop within 50 miles of me had one to try...

Evening all. Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Vox Stomplab pedals yet? They seem very cheap for what they claim on paper - too good to be true or genuine bargain? Budgetneil

I've not tried the BF3 but I have an old BF2-B not doing much if you're interested? (it's an old Japanese one with the green sticker underneath which I gather makes a difference but not sure why) I've been meaning to test the water in the marketplace bit of the forum but haven't got round to it!

Bass combo for home but with some presence

Hi Deb, Following on from Blowupsexcat's post, I've recently bought the 220 Touring 115 combo which I'm mightily pleased with. Slightly less potential for structural damage than with the 550 but same tube preamp and some majorly hefty discounts about too. Neil -
Have a look at the "Another Promethean Clone" thread on here (I would post a link to but can't figure out how from my phone - d'oh!). There's loads of discussion on the RedSub including reviews from owners. A lot of love for them it would appear. I'm pretty tempted myself...
