  1. My long gone '84..🙈
  2. Location please....could be tempted...
  3. I was there on Monday....the very definition of fun. Great players, getting to do what they do. No idea who the local promoter was, but can we have more like that please....and less crappy old punk and tribute acts??
  4. Horses for courses - engineers traditionally prefer it pre-anything, that way they can set levels and eq to suit and it won't change (and they don't have to start with any dramatic eq already added). They also usually prefer DI sources they know and recognise as quality/reliable units. I've used Sansamp (and Sadowsky/Aguilar) preamp DI's for years - you have control over the emulation/eq but you also have to be mindful of not overcooking things or changing settings after set up. Very occasionally I've had noise on the DI send that doesn't go away, ...only a passive transformer DI will always work silently.
  5. Now sold....thank you 😎.
  6. Currently on hold ....pending the usual. Will update interested members soon as possible. BB
  7. SWR electric/baby blue..also makes a great tube DI.
  8. Try both - you will probably find both work, but different rooms give different results. Watch out for phase issues (if thing get hollow sounding) and the dreaded hummm....
  9. Re-listed: As new condition, with original box, manual and extra gig bag. Collection preferred (Bristol / Bath ) but happy to post for £10 contribution. Not looking for trades, but PM any offers...
  10. You might find you get earth loop induced hum...but otherwise should work fine.
  11. Yep....but Monday 27th...
  12. Weird isn't it...everyone likes them but no one wants to pay a realistic price for an almost new one (with £50 bag). I decided to keep mine and I'm really enjoying it!
  13. I had the same bass, and loved the preamp. I've also got the DI pedal, and use it a lot (mostly with Fenders). For me the way to get the best was to use it minimally...maybe 40% on the bass boost and 30% treble. That way you keep the midrange sounding natural and don't have a lot of low end boom. Also remember that your amp settings are being added to this, so keep it fairly "flat" if possible. I've done a few sessions with just the pedal, and it sounded better (to me) than some very pricey DI units. Good job we all hear things differently.....
  14. John East would be a very good person to contact....
  15. Bugger..I was working in Worcestershire on Friday, and Stroud today. 😳
  16. I'm very tempted, but equally overspent recently....let's see how long I can resist...lovely amp, and a true groundbreaking classic of its time.
  17. Doesn't bother me particularly...provided sellers are clear and not claiming otherwise ( or being vague to the point of deception). It doesn't take vast knowledge to spot most fakes, and there is always common sense to fall back on. Personally, I've played plenty of dodgy Fenders and great (really fantastic) copies so have learned not jump to conclusions. I also have friends with expensive vintage Fenders that really could do with a decent bit of tic and set up, but they probably won't sort out the nuts or scratchy pots...because its vintage..innit....
  18. I would love to use one of those on a jazz gig.....I know it would sound great, but the looks on the other players' faces would something special.
  19. And Thomann have it back at £468 today...in stock.....weird? Might be worth a try...
  20. I suspect Ashdown would not have chosen to supply at the previous price, so Thomann would either take a low margin, or be apologising to their disappointed customers 😳
  21. I thought their very low price was more than a bit out of step....wonder if you'd ordered it at the low price if they would've honoured it?
  22. I like the way they are doing the small/light amp concept (not so light it feels fragile) but I'm not so convinced by their cabs - I tried the R800 through some of their small cabs and they seemed weak compared to my usual stuff (TKS, BF or old SWR & Bag End). It was only a quick shop floor test, but that was my impression.
  23. This combination works very well...only took me a month to drag the cab six feet out of its alcove resting place!
  24. Bonkers....but why not??
