1.
I've got adjustable nuts on both Warwicks and two of the Tsais. So that's four basses that don't ever need a nut filing job.
The high point of my luthiering(?) career was to change the nut on a warwick and it was dead simple. Also the just-a-nut has been around long enough for any problems to be known and like the man says you save the money , bother and risk of doing any filing, forever.
2. Is it that the PA isn't good enough at handling the sound you want, or that the cab/head adds something, or is it to do with what you are hearing from where you play, or is it even that only you dislikes your PA sound (this is something I sometimes come up against, but when I complain I'm met with blank looks, shrugs, or "sounds great to me" so I'm wondering if cab sim + IEM might work)
3.
I would say if nothing was kept copyrighted at the time ...
So if there is decent money it will all end up with the lawyers :-) OTOH if the singer has a good claim on the lyrics and melody then he's got 90% there, the other 90% being the bass line of course
4. I'll bet after those videos you've stopped looking...
5.
I record them onto cassette tapes and post them out in Jiffy bags.
Yes, there used to be a big hoo haa about that back in the day, my 2p is that a handful of tracks to a handful of people for the specific reason of learning the same version of a song is 'fair use' too trivial to enforce copyright on and royalties should be covered by the PRS licencing
6.
I gave up from 91 - 95, didn`t touch my bass, didn`t even buy any music. When I started playing again, I switched to guitar, including px-ing my (only) bass. Went back to bass in 2001 when asked to join a band as bassist. Had to buy a new set-up of course. Since then I`ve not stopped playing. Ruts happen, good gear is always out there, sell if you need the money. If you don`t, keep hold, saves having to buy later on as I`m sure this period will pass.
I completely agree. Been through several dry periods myself. One of which saw me change from guitar to bass. Making music is in the blood, the itch will come back - just hope it's not as a drummer!
7. The only eq I ever use is the knob marked 'volume', oh!, and my fingers :-)
8. Just to confirm, you don't want video, just audio?
9. Sounds like you need to get your own sig strings :-)
10. Hi, Is this intended for B E A D tuning (I.e.37" scale for lowest string etc)? Haven't been able to find out from the site...
11. Bought a Spector Euro 4, very easy, definitely and confidently recommended
12.
With a second hand market that allows you to effectively rent basses , I've still got a fair few models id like to try
too true, I prefer to try a bass over some months rather than, say, minutes in a shop so I 'rent' in this fashion too. Plus I can only play one bass at a time, but i would feel uncomfortable without a backup for if the current bass gets sunlight on it and turns to dust
13.
And finally, since the beginning I've not heard of a TC breaking down. Has anyone had a TC failure?
Well mine has been great until you said that - now I daren't turn it on :-(
14.
Did he say why? Just curious as I use an RH450. Mine's been 100% reliable so far, but it's always handy gaining knowledge from people in the know.
+1 on the curiosity here, though possibly it's the switched mode psu as an electronics guru friend one told me they are next to impossible to diagnose problems with, but there shouldn't be a quality/reliability issue there as switched mode psus are the way PCs are powered. and therefore the internet, and therefore BassChat... :-) Also maybe it more useful if ampliifier/cab reviews/advice stick to the nature of I play X bass style and it suits, or I play X capacity gigs and it suits, or personal (rather than anecdotal) reliabilty experience and leave the debates about components or lack thereof to the electronics forums...
15.
An extra 300 RHs obviously! Duh! And can I just say, getting each extra RH for only about 65 pence must be a bargain!
And now I spat coffee over the monitor - thx! Although comparing the operation and features of the pre-amp/comp/eq/etc parts of the RHs indicates to me they are very different products don't see what this obsession with watts is about
16. My understanding (and 2p) is that watts measure power and decibels measure volume and they are related by the speaker/cab sensitivity, also different frequencies are perceived differently wrt volume, so all this discussion about volume and watts is fairly redundant as every person/bass/amp/cab combination is different (thankfully :-) p.s. I just bought a rh750 and put it thru some cab at the practice room with a loudish drummer and only needed a third of the master range (if that helps)
17. Hi sounds like you have a similar issue to one i've been trying to solve for a few years now with many tunings reqd and trying to minimise the number of basses reqd. I had a hipshot on the E of a 4 str great piece of kit, until it fell apart :-( most likely a combination of lack of maintenance on my part and the fact I got it off ebay for less than half the usual price (looked genuine, but more fool me eh?) perfect for dropping e to d, but probably too bulky for most basses for every string, eventually ended up with a 5 str in std tune and a capo (one meant for a 12 str guitar which works great on a 5 str) - there is/was also a capo called something like a Spider that clamps in different places for each str - never tried it tho. This is the capo i use (stored next to the clip on tuner on the headstock :-) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kyser-Acoustic-Guitar-Quick-Change/dp/B0002CZVWI
18. Buy cheap buy twice - so sell your grandmother to double your budget :-) having said that I agree about the rb streamer 5 - I play one and also a dingwall combustion with my rock band and none of them can tell the difference ( although I sure can !)
19.
Most of mine aren't. Just sayin'.
No probs - I'm not blaming anyone, it's just I think musicians of all flavours get too hung up on having their 'sound' I'm just happy with a _band_ that isn't drunk & deaf, an audience is just a bonus :-)
20. My 2p... Most audiences are deaf and or drunk and only 'hear' the guitar and vocals, so fretting about a 'sound' well... Not much to add really but there is only one person who needs to hear your sound and that's you, and of course: bass should be felt and not heard :-)
21. Bought a Dingwall Combustion from ickleben. Great person to deal with, nice and friendly - even threw in Sat delivery so I didn't wet myself waiting :-)
22. Now on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170782917530
23. Hi, Bought his Zoom B2.1U. Quick, painless, friendly, and plays a Corvette $$ :-) Rick
24. Well, it is Christmas ...
25. Hi, If this is still for sale then I'll buy it - I guess rushbo has first refusal tho :-) Cheers Rick
