I've swapped this pickup out in my bass for a seymour duncan quarter pounder and kept the wizard j pickup, so this P pickup needs a new home. I'm guessing that this is the thumper pickup from wizard pickups as it is a hot hight output pickup. One of the pole pieces on the pickup is slightly chipped, but it arrived to me in this condition and when I asked Andy at wizard pickups about it I had no response.. it doesn't effect the tone of the pickup in anyway. When i used this pickup in one of my basses my sound guy told me it sound amazingly 'phat'! Looking for £35 delivered. Pics available - will post them up here eventually as soon as i locate a camera!
bump

 3. Touring in the winter with guitars in a massive pain in the arse. I have opened my bass up on a number of occasions to a condensation wet bass. Thankfully my jazz bass hasn't taken any harm from it yet and it's played 100+ shows in the last year! It's a bugger tho, restringing a chilled bass is a nightmare and I have had problem getting the bass to hold it's string and not let them slip until the bass has got back to room temperature and has settled. It's also not good on support tours where in some cases you are coming straight off stage and into the street to pack down and load a trailer. Can't be good for the guitars. I think it's part and parcel of a guitars life though and a nescessary evil!
Theres just no way our cabs and amps could all come out of the van every night. The way I see it is that our gear is there to be used.... if something dies it get replaced. It's all high quality stuff, built to last. All my own gear has been solid and reliable so far, depspite being often left overnight in the van. We're gigging well over a hundred times a year now, and so far everything is holding up well. We have spares of everything for the rare occasion if something misbehaves.... which sometimes happens with the valve guitar amps, but that would happen regardless of where they were kept overnight. For instance, my markbass amp is kept in a case, with-in a case, in an insulated van, in a shed.... No different to a house with no heating I suppose. Guitars are a different story, and I can agree with you that they should be taken in if at all possible. I'm going to change my evil ways! Don't worry, I'm not trying to sell any basses on basschat at the moment! Although, I must admit I'm trying to sell a pair of Markbass cabs. They would have paid their dues in the back of the van during the summer, but they are almost perfect in their appearance, and obviously they sound perfect. Nothing wrong with them at all.
4. For sale are two of my pedals that I no longer use after pciking up an EBS endorsement. So these are just collecting dust in my room at the moment. First up is the Solid Gold Soundlabs 'Parablender' FX blender. Solid Gold Soundlabs is a Candian Boutique effetcs pedal company. This pedal has two loops with a level control for each loop. This enables you to blend two FX pedals together or one fx with a dry signal (by pluging a patch cable from the send into the return of one of the loops). It has a footswitch so you can the loop on and off. I had been using this with the blackstar distortion pedal which I blended with a dry signal, to add more bottom end to the distortion. I bought this from Vintage and Rare Guitars for £130 i think original. Would like £95 ono as it is in mint condition. more info can be found here http://www.vintageandrareguitars.com/web/o...-Labs/item/5720 website is www.solidgoldfx.com BLACKSTAR HT-DRIVE VALVE OVERDRIVE PEDAL This has a few nicks in the paint work but works great and sound pretty cool! Comes with box, manual and powersupply. Ideally looking for £60 ono. More info on it can be found here - http://www.blackstaramps.co.uk/products/ht/htdrive.html

 6. Hey, I would consider myself a pro bass player. I agree with the guy above. Determination, getting to know a lot of people in musical circles, versatility, taste, fingers in pies etc For example I play in a signed 'Rock' band but I also contribute to my main wage from the band when i have free time by playing upright dinner jazz gigs, ska covers band, session recordings for singer/songwriters etc - Some things might not be the coolester or most glamorous of gigs, but they bring in the cash that keeps you going. The last session thing I did was in North California with a UK singer songwriter doing an album produced by sylvia massey and michael c ross. so you end up in some pretty cool situations! You've got to take the rough with the smooth, there are alwasy ups and downs in the industry!
 7.
i am off to find something to sell...... my car? no dont be silly then i couldn't get to the pub. ahhh, the wife!
haha - by the way the bass weighs 9lbs - 4 kg
 8. The pickups are lakland pickups as far as i know - bought the bass early this year.
 9. Ok as promised here are some photo of the Glaub. Obviously it's a rosewood neck, tried to get as detailed photos as possible. I can also post some sound clips of the bass too. I will weigh the bass and get back with weights as soon as.
 10.
yep...photos please. FP
Cool Will get some photos up this weekend. On tour with Juliette lewis this week so won't get home til saturday
 11. I'm thinking of selling my Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub in Sunburst with mint pickguard. It's in excellent condition and has upgraded ernie ball straplocks. The reason I'm thinking of selling is due to it never gets played enough really. It's only played about 4 or 5 gigs and for the rest of the time sits on the guitar rack as a backup to my jazz. I also find it a bit too mellow compared to my jazz - it sounds great and would be great for other kinds of music, but at the moments i'm mainly playing rock and i have several other basses that can do mellow. I do quite like it and the finish and wood grain on it is amazing so im hesitant in selling it, so I guess i'm trying to see if there would be any interest in it. I'd be looking for about £600 for it.I've seen them new for about 899. If there's any interest i'll post some photos up!
 12. I just bought a SD qrt pounder pickup from them last week - had no real problems... they had the best price, and the postage was cheap - it took 4 working days to get here which did have me worried but turned up today so i'm happy! Yeah as somone said before - try contacting strings and things, they deal with my ernie ball endorsement and are really cool guys
 13. Hey, I'm on a mission to make my Lakland Bob Glaub playable live. Had various action problems with this bass, taken it to a tech once already and still my issue with the bass haven't been solved - but i'm not one for giving up, so have decided to sort out the problem myself. I've already done the truss rod and action myself, the tech I had gone to had set the neck so that it was bang on straight, great if you play softly but clank central if you dig in. I need to change the nut as it's been cut way to low, despite my local tech raising the nut already, it still isn't high enough on the a string for the way I play. So i'm think of getting a brass nut, but not sure if there's any difference from one brass nut to another - is brass just brass. I want to get as much attack/sustain from the bass as possible. Where are the best places to get these from? Next stop is to swap the lakland pickup out for a SD QRTR POUNDER - the pickup in it is too much vintage thump - sound lovely through my phil jones briefcase playing mellow stuff but I need a more modern gnarly p tone for my band I know some people will think I'm mad for making these changes, and there is nothing wrong with any other lakland i've ever played and apart with the problem with a string really the finish and feel of the bass is lovely, and it's nice to play gently - I just need to make it more into a rock beast!
 14.
I am wondering if Lakland are being very clever with this. The Skyline range is made of superb wood from Korea (I think) and then sent to the USA for the electrics, assembled and set up by hand. To me wood is wood and makes no difference where it comes from. So being assembled, set up, quality checked etc in the USA makes this pretty much an American bass to me. So this competes with the USA Fender range which is I guess their main competitor. However, Lakland also have what they call the USA Laklands which are no different to the Skylines in terms of electrics, assembly and setup apart from the wood used. Like I say, to me wood is wood and the Skyline range already uses superb wood so the wood used on the USA makes no difference to me. However, those who are rich enough to afford the real deal (pro players, collectors, hard-core fans and rich people) will buy the USA range and I imagine Lakland are making a nice profit on those sold. The quantity is small but the profit is great and if the Skyline range is selling well which is seems to be and competing with Fender, then they will be laughing all the way to the bank. They also seem to have a lot of artists on their books who play Laklands so they must be doing pretty well.
The hardware such as the bridge and the tuners is also different to the US model
 15. If you play hard and really dig in go fender! I have a lakland bob glaub, sounds lovely and plays nice if you play softly , dig in and the bass chokes, been to a tech once to try and sort it - he lifted the nut and did the action - still loads of buzz when i play like i play - tried raising the action myself to no avail, currently at the moment adjusting the truss rod as the neck was dead straight so we will see what happens. With fenders - I don't know what it is, sometimes they build work is shoddy or the paint job might be a little bit off - but you can dig into them smash them around and they'll always sound great. It depends on what you want. if you want something to to tour the ends of the earth i'd say a fender. if you want something that sounds great and you do studio work i'd say lakland. I really want this lakland bass to work for me - other times ive played the more high tech pickup ones in shops they've been great! I don't know what it is about this bass but it doesn't like me! lol
 16. If you're interested in hearing a combination of those pedals you can check them out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7ppIn6vFhI...re=channel_page Did an EBS video for those guys - Love the pedals. Just thought it may be of some use to people wanting to hear audio clips

 18.
Nice As a matter of interest roughly what did it cost? I could probably look it up, but I'm a lazy b'stard
at the most i would say £650 i wanted something a jazz with a p/j setup... going to tour this one into the ground i think! really impressed with warmoth and hipshot parts - the sustain and natural tone is amazing. the fit on the body and neck is the best ive ever seen too!
 19. Warmoth body and neck and scracthplate hipshot bridge and tuners wizard p/j combo big allparts and fender bits and piece ernie ball strings and tommorw, straplocks If i did this again, i would buy everything already finished to save time and hassle! Sounds cool through my little Phil jones practice amp, going to test it through my full orange rig tommorow
 20. ahh cool thanks for that! makes sense!
 21.
Does this help?
ive seen this but i cant find the caps they have there anywhere? any ideas thanks tho!
 22. Which capacitors do I need for a 62 knob jazz stack knob layout....?
 23.
All this stuff is pretty evil stuff. The best thing to do is get somebody else to do it... or if you are thinking about getting serious into it, get the proper gear - e.g. air fed mask and fume cupboard. If you are still alive and reading this, you are doing OK for now.
haha ok thanks dude! nah it's a one off project i'm doing! If i do it again i will be pre sprayed bodies. Thinking about all the 2nd hand smoke venues i played in before the smoking ban - theres a lot of nasty sh*t out there! Just speaking to my dad about it, and he told me about a time when he was younger he resprayed an mg with nitro in his garage with no ventilation or masks - he's nearly 61 now! lol. He's told me to stop worrying, as there are a whole lot of other things out there that are more likely to kill or injury me - like constantly touring in splitter vans/buses/airplanes and the alcohol consumption that goes with it!!
