Well said, although milk is meant to reduce the effects the thinners have on your brain, it'll still fry a few brain cells if you don't wear a mask. Polyester type paint as used by most major manufacturers needs to be sprayed in a spray booth, often with an air fed mask as it can do you some serious harm, but if you can buy it in an aerosol over the counter then you're normally reasonably safe, provided you take sensible precautions. Mask. Mask. Mask......
Ok - if i ever use nitro again - def going to be wearing a mask. Wish i had done mor research before commiting. question is will i live!!?? Spoke to my parents and they said i would most likely be ok - haven't experienced any dizzyness, drowsiness, coughing/shortness of breath from it... So is poly just as bad as nitro - what about spray varnishs etc as i have sanded and sprayed many things growing up as a kid! god knows what i have ingested! plus i live next to dual carriage way too!!
Just out of interest, what does it say on the can for safety precautions?
It says that vapours can cause drowsiness and dizzyness. to spray in a well ventilated area and not to inhale vapour or spray. I think im going to spray the neck with something different lol - just wish i had realised i needed a mask before just to be on the safe side - then again smoking causes cancer and people smoke and inhale 2nd hand smoke everyday!

Is it any worse than other spray paints and aerosols? Didn't really think too much about it today until I typed it into google and read about it! Apparently it can cause high blood preasure, dizzyness etc.... Me and my dad have done 3 sprays on my jazz body over the last two days, we did it outside under an outside eating/bbq shelter thing, so im assuming ventilation was pretty good. I lightly sanded the first coat, outside with 600 sandpaper so there wasn't hardly any dust, and any that was was on the body which i wiped down with a tack cloth. People suggest to wear ventilation masks - which is probably a good idea - but is that aimed more towards people who use these sprays day in day out as part of their job? I am a hypercondriac by nature lol! But im more concerned about effecting my dads health - if it's just me, then it's my own look out! The body looks sweet tho!!

Hey I'm finishing an alder body with a flame maple top from warmoth. I've stained the body a light stain to help bring out the flame... but I've had to do this a few times now - as the first time I did it - i suddenly noticed strange writing on the body, so i wire wooled it down and stained it again and more writing was appearing - suddenly clocked on that it was the newspaper I had the body on - idiot - so wire wooled it down and dyed it again - This has left me with a finish i think is too dark now on the body and from the use of wire wool the body looks scratchy around the lower and upper horns/neck poclet area and at the bass of the body where the strap pin would be - How would you advise me to lighten up the finish and reduce the scratching marks on the body - using a fine grade of wire wool? I'm going to apply a clear nitro gloss to the body as well.... i'm wondering if that will hide any of these scratches as they seem to disappear when i wet the body. Please help - i'm new to this!

If you want an amptone - go with a sansamp or similar... it wont be your amp sound. but then people watching won't know that, or even be able to notice the difference. it all depends on the size of room you are playing. in a small room you'll be getting quite a lot of the bass sound from onstage coming through.... in a big room, when the whole band is playing your bass will most likely sound just like bass... I've struggled with the concept of not having my amp sound out front, but have found - especially when you dont have your own sound guy its often safer to just give him a clean di or a sansamp - rather than worry about his competence at mic-ing a speaker and mixing the di and amp sound etc. Luckily 90% of the time I have my own soundguy - and it's pretty much agreed that between us the sansamp is most reliable and workable in live situations.

I have a new guitar hero world tour complete band game for the Nintendo Wii which was given to me as a gift.... but I don't have a Wii although it was my original intention to get one, I now can't afford it and the box is taking up way too much room in my house. It's still box sealed and has never been used. It has one wireless guitar controller, wireless drum set, wired microphone and the guitar hero world tour game etc... £100 pm if interested It'll have to be picked up due to it's size - I live in the south wales.

Not sure i'm 100% if I'm going to part with these as I am sure they'll have a use further down the road... but how far down that road is another thing - so i thought i'd see if there is any interested in these. Blackstar Overdrive - the yellow three control one- has some really nice fuzz and amp tones to it. includes power supply. has a few scratches on it but nothing major and is in full working order - cost £89 would accept £65 plus p&p Solid Gold Parablender - this is a canadian boutique made pedal i bought from Vintage and rare guitars. It's basically an fx blend looper. It basically blends together an effects pedal with a clean signal or two effects together. Obviously I have used this in conjunction with the blackstar. cost £130 new but would take £100 for it plus p&p- in mint condition. Both these pedals were used as an experiment with distortion pedals whilst my band was supporting funeral for a friend on tour. Scott from the cancer bats actually put me on to the blackstars. I don't use them anymore due to being an EBS pedal artist. If you have any question feel free to pm me - please be patient tho as i'll be on the european silverstein tour towards the end of the week- so internet access may be limited. cheers.
I posted this in the ebay links section and it got moved here.... no idea why? If you're interested in either pedal you'll have to bid on ebay. If neither item sells or a buyer falls through i'll put them up on here. The loop is only just one loop and a tuner out/mute... it;s made by red onion solutions
Only two days left on these now! finished on sunday!

Hey, I've got a skyline bob glaub bass, but looking for a new scratchplate for it, was wondering if any of you guys know of anywhere in the UK that makes custom scratchplates or even lakland plates?!! cheers

I recently became an EBS pedal endorsing artist and so now I have the issue of the EBS pedals no longer fitting on my current board... so I'm looking fora decent pedalboard/ pedalboard case... does anyone know of any good companies or can recommend what is good and what should be avoided. I need to something professional standard as I tour a lot, usually on buss's with trailers so need something that can withstand the carnage that takes place on the road!

I hope that people actaully learn my real parts on bass - that would be totally awesome I think! Guitar Hero I've found is really good for really hearing the basslines that are usually hard to pick out on records - for example early metallica.. only problem is you have to be able to play them on the game really weel to hear them properly!!
You're on tour with AC/DC? Well done!
haha no - that's the answer who were the last 'uknown' band to be put on the game last year.... hoepfully we'll get something cool like an ac/dc tour lol

Hey, Not quite a gig but wasn't sure where else to post this! I'd just like to mention that my band will haveone of our songs featured on the next guitar hero game. We're a UK band called Attack! Attack! (not the US one) I've been sitting on the news for a while now, trying not to tell anyone but I simply can't wait to see how Activision have interpreted my bassline on the Game, and how easy or hard it will be to play, if i'll even manage to play it - not the greatest GH player! If you want to check out the band it's www.myspace.com/attackattackband here's an article about it if you're interested http://www.mcvuk.com/press-releases/...-AT-MIDEM-2009

Orange amps rock!!! All tho i'm biased in saying that as I endorse them, but seriously cool tube tone that's a little bit different to the Ampeg tube sound. Sounds absolutely fat with a fender precision. My rig - Orange AD200B 4X10 and 1x15 with a Lakland bob glaub or Fender jazz re-issue with quarter pounders Going to pick up a tiny terro bass for a backup when they go into production.
Thanks. Bringing our own backline is not going to happen this time round, as we need to travel by plane in order to meet other commitments (we're based in Ireland). I think I might start another thread regarding backline rental outfits in London... Nathan
Get in touch with the other bands playing the gigs and see what you can arrange to share backline.

Played the Windmill years ago in my old band as a secret show. It's basically a pub from what I remember with a pretty small stage. I thnk from what I remember the sound was ok - nothing spectacular but it was good. It was about the time bloc party jsut broke out and I can remember they had done a similar thing. In terms of backline - i'd bring your own, I haven't been to a venue ever where they have supplied backline that was of any quality. Crowd/Industry - It's unlikely that there will be any industry people there unless you have either invited them or they go to that bar or pub on the offchance. Same goes for crowd, especially london... people don't tend to go to gig when they don't know the band, unless they're there for a drink/night out or are there to see the support acts - best way to get a crowd is to message your fans on myspace from london and get them down there. Also playin twice in London back to back can affect turn outs sometimes. Hope you have a good gig and the turn out is good.
Hi everyone, Whilst in my local PMT I noticed a number of Blackstar Amps valve distortion pedals. I came home and had a read. UK based, valve distortion pedals. Sounded familiar, as I've been GASing for a DHA Dual Custom for about 2 years (no impulse buys here!!!). Anyone know the major differences, or why the Blackstar equivalent of the VT2 Dual Custom is a lot cheaper? Many thanks, Dan
yo! I own the blackstar distortion pedal. The distortion is almost a fuzz when you crank the gain to max... it can get very fizzy... also it loses a lot of bottom end from you tone. I use mine in conjunction wit ha parablender fx blender to blend my clean signal to the distortion to add bottom end. It's a cool pedal.. the distortion could be a bit thicker on it. I would look for a bass specific pedal or a dist with a blend on it. For what I use it for live it's cool as I want some nasty distortion fuzz blended in with my clean to try and recreate a two amp scinario... (the classic a guitar amp blend with a bass amp sound) Try out the MXR blowtorch or El grande or the Boss Bass Overdrive.. I also own a tc electronic bass distortion which is awesome but they stopped making them.
