1. There's no doubt they are fantastic basses, very versatile and my one is really comfy at 8 lbs. To be honest as it sounds and plays now I haven't had a nicer bass, a bit quirky looking but that has grown on me too. I like Celinders and would love an update5 but they are big basses and it wouldn't replace the Skjold.

Everyone who has played mine has been very complimentary.

  2. Over the past few months I had become frustrated at how my Ash/ Maple Skjold had somehow lost it's ability to sound percussive and produce the killer slap/pop tone it once had.

I was close to doing what I always do and move the bass on for a financial loss and replace it with another Nordy / Celinder/ Overwater etc. This GAS was not helped by playing my old Celinder now owned by Fingerz and it just sounded KILLER!

I've had the Skjold three years which for me is almost a record and I am sentimentally attached to it so I thought I should give it some love and attention because it is a fantastic bass.

Anyway the point of this post is that I picked up the bass from BassDirect after having a setup and some new strings, the difference is unbelievable, I came home and played it for three hours......just excellent! Slap tone to die for and it just sounds amazing all round.

Still want a Celinder mind but at least the Skjold is going nowhere. Try a simple setup- it's like having a new bass!

Oh and I will be getting a Streamliner - played it today- lovely!

  3.
As for other customers, and how GENZ deals with them... it's too early to say wether it's a common fault yet. Let's not write the whole thing off.
The point I was trying to make is that it may not be too early to identify the failure because it appears to be a problem related to the transport of the amps, how many others that have been delivered so far have had an early problem?

As I said I'm not writing it off at all, I'm almost certain to get one sooner than later, it sounds like a great amp. I have no doubt that GB delivers great customer service and I know Mark at BDirect well.

KJung appears to have acted in haste in my view regardless of his personal policies.

  4. In the past I would just have said .....cks to it and bought one but Im definitely not that way now!

Its a marketing train crash for GenzBenz over on Talkbass as KJung has two successive amp failures within hours of getting them and he's pulled out completely and going for a refund!

What about the other customers? Surely KJungs not the only Streamliner user in the US? What is the failure rate with others or is it just a very unfortunate twist for GB?

Unbelievable how much clout he appears to have, I still want one!

  5. It really is FULL of amazing gear! You need to visit for sure. The Gallery used to have a nice variety of basses and I haven't been there for a while but BassDirect is a nightmare for a man with any decent credit rating!!!

Seriously do yourself a favour, it's bass heaven......

  6. Haha Homie you'll wait a long time for these babies!

Paul I might need to put the other half of the Powersoft through an AE212 at the same time...... :)

Of course I don't need it but the AE212 is a great cab, actually Al you ought to try one?

  7. I've owned a few Tecamp cabs and know exactly what you mean about the tone, I too prefer the deeper old school tone.

I recently traded a Aguilar GS212 for one of my Epi cabs and it's now for sale at BassDirect because I have made another final decision and bought some Bergs for the usual Kings ransom (they are worth it though!)

Its up at a great price IMHO and sounds deep and big. Weighs 70lbs in an 8 ohm version but has casters to help it around.

Definitely a good option and is worth looking at.

  8. Sold a DB750 to Barrie last night, we met up at a bar and had a great old natter!

Brilliant stories and top gear were on the agenda- I had a lovely night and would recommend Barrie without any hesitation - cool guy!

  9. Hi Jack

The Digam will stay as long as I need a Poweramp- it is a really impressive piece of gear.

I'm delighted that you are enjoying the AC, I guess it just wasn't quite for me. I went to Bassdirect to buy the Red Overwater but after trying the Nordy it was a bit lighter as well as sounding and looking great and I really am pleased with it. Having said that, maybe the Orange brings out the best in basses like these, it would be interesting to hear the AC through it.

Btw what has the East pre done for it tone- wise?

  10. All great gear IMO but the outstanding ones for me are...........

the Powersoft Pre/ Glockenklang pre..... Amazing silent effortless power from the Powersoft and lots of quality tone from the Glock.

The Orange AD200MK3.....Always wanted one and it hasn't disappointed!

The Nordy VP5.......F'ing brilliant bass. Mark has another one at BassDirect now and I'd recommend anyone looking for a five string P bass to try it.

My Skjold 5 string which I can't see ever leaving.

Loved the Berg NV412 too but it's just a bit too big and heavy as I pass the fifty mark.

How could I forget this AC....beautiful bass but I just can't get on with Vol/Vol jazzes

I'm really lucky to have played all this amazing gear but I feel I am really happy with my two basses and Amps but just need to match the right cabs.
