1. SOLD I'm flogging my workhorse FX unit - the built like a tank B9.1. It comes boxed, but doesn't include Cubase or the "Librarian" software - that's a free download from the Zoom website. It also comes with a well made Gator case which is the perfect size. NOW £75 + post I'm based in Halesowen if you want to pick it up in person.
2. SOLD Here's the incredibly versatile MS60B. It's in very good condition and comes boxed. NOW £50 delivered - i'll knock a fiver off if you pick it up from Halesowen.
3. SOLD Here's a nice little bass that could do with a good home... The body is from a Chinese Squier P Bass. It feels nice and solid. There are a few paint chips, but mainly on the back where's there's a bit of buckle rash. It's got a black scratchplate which has had holes drilled for a thumb rest (which I've attached) a tug bar and a pick-up cover. I've filled these unused holes with black screws. It's got an Entwistle pick-up which sounds great. The neck is a Harley Benton, which I've reshaped to look a bit more Fender-y. I've attached a "comedy" logo. Two passes with some sandpaper and it would be history - don't panic! I've got the action down to a reasonable height, but there's one note that insists on clanking - the 13th Fret on the E String. You could raise the action a bit and lose the clank, but it would make the action rather high - for me, anyway. This would make a decent back-up, beginners bass or something you could mod. I'd prefer collection (I'm based in Halesowen in the West Mids) but I could post it at cost. I've also got a really sturdy, home made hard case I'm happy to chuck in to sweeten the deal. As ever, you're welcome to have a twang on it first. £70 + postage
4. SOLD I've got two powered monitors up for grabs: Monitor one is a 250W Carlsbro Alpha PM12. Decent condition, although the plastic handle at the side cracked, so I replaced it with a hand made metal one, which I've "padded". Not pretty but it works well. To be honest, i've used it just as much as a low volume Bass amp for small gigs than a stage monitor and it does a great job. Here's the spec: 12 x 2" LF Driver 1" Compression Driver 200W Active With External Speaker Output Mic In XLR & Jack Link Out Jack Speakon Out. Gain Volume ... 6 Band EQ Pole Mount Bar Handle Dimensions (HxWxD)mm : 355 x 505 x 420 Weight : 21.5kg That one is £55 The other one is a bit of a mystery...it says "Carlsbro" on the input panel, but I'm not convinced. A bit tatty - the paint is coming of the grille, but not terrible condition. It didn't have a handle when I bought it, so I've added one from an old Carvin combo, which does the job beautifully. It says 350W on the amp, but I think that's ambitious. Works fine and I've often used both amps together for a perfectly decent stage monitor system. £45 for that one I'm based in Halesowen in the West Mids and you're welcome to hear them working and have a cuppa.
5. I used a scrunchy on my Bass when my old band played "All Right Now" (yeah, wanna make something of it..?) It helped to mute that cheeky open "A" during the solo bass lick. Worked a treat. I got four for a quid, too. The GruvGear ones have got the velcro fastener thingy, but they weigh in at slightly more than a quid. And you can't buy 'em from your local Superdrug.
6. Bought some strings from Lee - great transaction (as they used to say on Ebay...) Buy and sell with confidence. Rushbo
7. I put off going wireless for years, thinking that as my bands rarely played on big stages, there was no need. Ironically, it's the smaller stages where having less clutter on the floor is the biggest help. I'm another Line 6 G30 user and I've had no problems at all with it, I've popped the receiver in one of those Maplins silver mini flight case dealios with my Zoom single pedal multi fx and that's my set up for many of my gigs. A kettle lead, instrument lead and an amp and I'm good to go. I also use rechargeable batteries too...I shelled out for Duracell ones and a super rapid (15 minute) charger. I'll get a three hour rehearsal and a two hour gig from one charge. They paid for themselves in about two months. The clips on the G30 aren't the best tho,so I bought a cheapo camera case from Amazon (£3?) which sits on my strap and can be moved easily from Bass to Bass. Thomann do a pouch for it for about the same money, but it will only fit straps which taper to a thin end.
8. I saw him do a promo gig for his first album at Ronnie Scotts in Brum. I was working in a local record shop and got a free ticket, not really knowing what to expect. He was on time, coherent and played and sang beautifully. I had a chat with him afterwards and although he seemed a little "relaxed", he was pleasant company. Time has not been kind.
9. For a lot of 80's tunes, you need to separate the songs from the production. I have no problem at all with the Pop songs from that era -they don't interest me very much, but a lot of them were really well written. Nik Kershaw did some really cool things. I started the decade as a diehard Metal/Glam fan and ended it as a Paisley Underground nerd...Rain Parade, REM, Let's Active, Church...happy days.
10. A truly unique voice and a massive inspiration. "The Yes Album" is one of the reasons I play the Bass. Godspeed Chris Squire.
11. Very cool. But...it may just be the angle of the photographs but the action looks hand cripplingly high and the G string looks very close to the outer edge of the neck...
12.
Nobody should be in Birmingham. Ever.
Watch it, buster.
13. I was in a Floyd tribute which had Chris Evans ex-wife as lead vocalist! We used to rehearse just outside Lenny Henry's house - the one he shared with Miss French. We were called Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. I didn't bother taking my coat off.
14. Yep, it's an Ibanez Roadstar II from the mid 80's. I've got one of these in sparkly burgundy. I picked it up from Musical Exchanges in Brum in 1987. I went in for a R*ckenb@cker as I was in a major REM phase, but this little beauty blew me away. These are fantastic, versatile Basses and I gigged mine solidly for the best part of 20 years. Never let me down once and it got some real abuse on the road. My 850 is the only Bass I own which I would never think of selling.
15. SOLD FENDER UNIVERSAL STAND. Perfect for keeping your unusually shaped instruments safe and upright. Really solid piece of kit - only ever used at two rehearsals for my Epiphone Blackbird. £17.50 if you pick it up or £22.50 posted.Immaculate, as new condition with box. Halesowen/Black Country area. (Bass not included BTW!)
16. In my shady past as a Bassie in a functions band, I remember that "Go Your Own Way" was a regular request at wedding receptions...as was "Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldnt've)" by the Buzzcocks...
17. Hi all I've got one spare ticket for the mighty 10cc at the RAH this Thursday (May 28th). It's a decent seat - Arena B and it's yours for £45 (OVNO). Cheers, Rushbo
