Thank you Thunderbird, I shall have a look at that as well. .

Thanks Nash, ....one I hadn,t spotted with tuner option aswell, I was looking at Mooer Micro but having just looked at the Radial I,m thinking that,s the one like. Good to have hands on recommendations! Even with something simple like switch pedals there is a lot of gear to look at! Cheers and all the best. Simon.

Hi, I,m playing EUB in the band I,m with....now adding electric bass, can anyone recommend a A-B switch pedal? I just had a look around Thomann Cyberstore and there are rather a lot of them....does anyone use one of these? Just want to switch from EUB to bass during the set. Thanks, Simon.

***SOLD***Squier JV Precision - 1st Series! Large Fender Logo JV0xxxx
Si-Fi replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Basses For Sale
I second that......very lovely! when I bought my JV jazz it was just sitting in the corner of a studio for years gathering dust .......someone had replaced the neck with a Tokai lined fretless...... if it had the original neck on I,d be drooling more than I am right now ! Cheers and all the best. Simon. -
I guess I shall give the bits to my guitar man and let him do his thing! If they don,t fit, one shall purchase new shiny ones! Having just checked the tuner hole I got between 17-18mm. Must be in with a shout with that! Once again i thank you for your time and advice. I shall now go and look at some pre ampy stuff on here, Cheers, Simon.

More options, great! I was initially going to buy a graphite neck from Status.... I like the neck on my Energy, but then with fitting... cost... A question I must ask is would the tuners on the above pictured headstock be a straight swap onto jazz - precision ? I don,t want to assume they will fit out of ignorance! cheers.
-
That's great....and they do precision to. I,m gonna have go on my mates precision for a couple of days and see how It feels, either way a top option to have.......better than scratching around Eblah! Thanks.
-
Excellent.......and thanks for that, there is a very very thin shim in the neck in the pocket. Individual necks don,t seem to crop up to often.....however I do have my eye on a squier jazz one right now! Cheers.

Hi, I thought I,d try and seek some advice, I believe from the serial number (JV42861) this bass I have is a 1982-84 Squier or Fender squier? Thing is It has a Tokai oldies but goldies lined fretless neck on it ! The guy I use to do the odd bit of work on my basses says it has a slight bow in the middle of the neck, it still plays well (does not get played enough), in tune all the way up the neck but I want to put a fretted precision or jazz neck on it. I would like to know if modern Squier necks can be recommended ? I have see a Squier jazz neck for sale...... i,m itching to get playing this bass live! Many thanks, Simon.
Just found out that tonights gig is a 'ticket do' so in order to attend there are one or two options:- 1. Offer to buy a ticket at the door. 2. Blag about being a special guest of the band and entitled to special entry price. 3. Agent needing to be there for vetting of the band for future gigs and, again, requiring reduced (or free) entry. 4. Pose as road crew - this would involve you (and presumably Mrs. SF) dressing in baggy combat shorts (regardless of climate), wearing old black T-shirts carrying 'gear' logo (usually Marshall or Zildjian), tool bag/belt (with nothing of any use), a degree of facial hair which does not quite equal a proper beard or 'tach, and of course a pony tail. Good luck. H.
Ney bother, options 2,3,4 would be worth trying just for a crack! I,ll go for option 1, I,m sure they can squeeze us in, be rude not to try! It kinda pans out in that the beer is cheap!! Thanks and hope to catch up this eve.
We were a couple of minutes' walk from the FBI but it seemed to be closed all the time we were there. We have eaten there before, and the seafood was good. This time we spent every evening in the Coach at Lesbury, probably the best food I have eaten anywhere.
Thinking about it the FBI was being refurbished.....maybe that was the reason. I,ll make note of the Coach at Lesbury for food, Had a listen to you guys on soundcloud, like the sounds Dave.....Fender American Standard Jazz Bass 2008 in Blizzard Pearl !! very good. If I get a good couple of months work under my belt and it,s still there! Cheers.
You know, normally I'd welcome people. But this!!! Four basses? FOUR BASSES????? For starters, you'd need a Jazz if you play Jazz music or other music. Then, you can't do without a Bongo if you play African music or other music. Evidently, a Funkmaster is needed, both for funk and for other music. Additionally, you can't do without a Precision if you're into precise music or other music. Obviously, a RockBass ... The list goes on and on.... 16 different model names at the very least. Then you need all of those basses in 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-string versions. Then, you can't do without both fretted and fretless versions of all of them. Have you ever realised that short scale basses have different overtone spectra, and thus are essential so you don't always have the same timbre? So the least you're gonna need are 16 times 4 times 2 times 2 basses .... so let's say 150 basses so we also cover EUBs and those acoustic thingies.... For starters! (Me, I'll have 72 Bongos in a few years. Just watch me...) Oh, and welcome I guess... best, bert
Thanks for that Bert, it,s reassuring to know. I have a JV squire jazz but it has a Tokai jazz fretless neck on it!! I found it in a studio and bought it for £70 but it plays so well! I need for a jazz fretted coz I love the sound and the necks....I guess USA, MIM all necks must differ? I,ll have to put this into a different forum for questioning. Hmmm, Dave has one for sale....nice! I played a mates 5 string not long ago, very good....made a note of that, I now realise that I can,t sell what I have to buy....I,d miss them to much, besides, they do get played. Man, Bert, just got to get some more money earned! Cheers.
If you do turn out be sure you make yourself known by the traditional Basschat heckle of "Get off, you're sh*te".
Chuckle chuckle. My mrs will do that anyway!
You're old enough to be 'everyone's' Grandad Howie! Oh and welcome from a fellow Northumbrian but I am from the fleshpots of Blyth rather than out in the sticks! ...and the correct answer to 'how many basses' is in fact; one more than you presently own!
Thanks for the welcome, "fleshpots of Blyth" my mrs just went uurrgghh, at that description! mind you the old glue factory did have that.....was it glue...actually it was hooves come to think of it! There was a time I thought it was sad that people wanted to have so many or several basses, I would almost be scornful, think why do you need all those, hmmmm. outrageous! what was I thinking!
We were staying in Boulmer, so quite close to you. We come to the same place every year or two.
That,s right, it,s just up the way is Boulmer, my brother says the fishing boat inn is very good for food! overlooking the beach, The only time I went in that pub was when me, wor lass and 2 nippers were walking along the beach and handed in a mobile phone we found there....I looked at the phone book on the mobile and rang the number under MUM, her daughter of course answered and said thanks, they were not far away and we handed it in to the Fishing boat inn for collection.....and had a pint! The best move we ever made Dave was moving back up here..

I just moved back up here last year after being away in Notts for 26yrs! Steve Daggett trio....must come out and have a look, I,ve seen these band names on north east musicians pages and here good things about the sounds, love the fact there is a lot going on up here with live music great stuff, Where along the Geordie Delta are you located? Do you know Shipcote and friends? regards, Simon.
My wife and I were in Northumberland for a few days a week or so ago, lovely part of the country. I have a Jazz in the basses for sale section, I could have delivered it if I'd known!
Hi Dave, I do believe I have had a look at the bass in question......very nice! cut a long story short I went up to Kelso to buy a Mark bass combo and bought his Warwick corvette LTD as well !! I kept telling myself no..... at that price I just had to.....currently saving.... I shall keep nipping to the basses for sale section.. Hopefully wont be to long. Thanks for the thought.

Your very kind and thank you.....that confirms what i was thinking all along! I am missing a fretted Jazz!

As the title says.......just want to say hi all. I,ve been playing bass for 25yrs, EUB for last 2, after browsing around here without actually joining i thought i,d make the plunge! I seem constantly drawn to the "basses for sale section" which is very naughty as i have 4 basses which is surely enough? Cheers all.
Welcome Si-Fi, and also Jojo (belatedly). Fellow upright bassist here, and fellow leftie. I would love to know how other leftie double bassers fare with getting their instruments. So far, what I've gathered is, I either buy a horrendously expensive - if nice - ready-made left-handed upright from Warwick, or I buy a rightie EUB from one of the other manufacturers (Harley Benton, NS Design etc.) and get it modified by a luthier. Anyone else know of other solutions? Have you ever had an upright turned from rightie to leftie? Edit: forgot to say that I have turned my cheap 4-string upright left-handed by myself, but I guess I wouldn't want to risk and expensive 5-stringer.
Hi Bluejay....Joe will be well made up some lefty communication!! Being a righty and having just stood to the other side of mine...scratching my head for 20mins!.and i could be being a bit thick here but with it being a totally symmetrical would it not be a case of just re-string the other way? I think it maybe that cos this Bassix i have has no bridge it all just strings from the bottom of the neck (ball end style) to the tuners at the top.....then the neck bolts on to the body. You know Bluejay...i thought of the left handed side of playing only on rare ocassions obviously as i am not... but now it,s been mentioned it does give an interesting insight into how...what... and general logistics of it all!! And yes......you have got some expensive tastes....can,t fault that..lol! I saw a Warwick eub for sale not long ago and it looked great and being a Warwick one imagines it plays real good. Nice one Bluejay and big hello to you. Cheers.
how much did your hench double bass cost ? i really want to get one, but i dont know if you can get them lefty O.o iv never seen anyone use one (a lefty one) thanks a lot man
Aye aye Joe.....do you mean that Bassix EUB i got? if so i just got well lucky with it man...£550 off ebay....retail therapy coz i got let down with one i bought from cash generator up in Edinburgh which was a blessing coz i,d have been bolloxed in hindsight trying to get a standard double bass into my car with Mrs....2 girls and all the holiday gear!! I get all that in and this one just packs away and sits on top of the boot. Piece of piss to pack and packs away into itself via a couple of nuts. It.s not on the Bassix website no more as i believe Alan who meks them changes the range or varies the models from time to time. I maybe wrong on that but the closest thing i seen to it on there is the travel Contrabass but it has a bridge where mine aint....the neck is the business end on mine and it just bolts on to the body which is an open backed sound box that from the front looks just like a double bass....i swear i aint played much on my other basses coz i cant put it down man!! As to lefty style i aint sure how that works in the world of double basses but looking at that thing of mine it is totally symetrical so having stood to the other side of it....and a restring the other way would it not be a lefty? sh*t man Joe i just pick em up and play them! In 25yr i have not even bothered to learn notation of any kind....just play it and remember it and then mess around with it accordingly!! Theres a guy in scotland selling a travel double bass for £600....http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/104617828/bassix-upright-electric-bass.html every now and then things come up for sale!! I hope i aint ranted on to much....i hope i read your msg correct! Cheers Joe and regards. and thanx to al the lairds for meking me feel welcome
