My EBS Proline 4x10 tipped slightly in the van recently, it put a dent in the guitar amp flight case. My cab was fine, the only bits that get worn are the plastic corner pieces on the bottom, but EBS kindly sent replacements for a few pence and a cover wouldn't stop those getting worn anyway.

Appearance of you and band on stage - clothing opinions?
This is awesome, great look :^)
Thanks, the singer wanted us all in kiss-style make-up but I have a beard, so I painted his makeup on to a mask, saves a lot of time changing too. -
I quite like having a 'band uniform' - when I put my gig gear on it's like I'm getting ready for business.
I know what you mean, I played a few songs with my old band a few months ago at their farewell gig, I felt odd not wearing a suit or a costume, very exposed. -
I dunno big red, I think theres a lot to be said for getting changed before.
I agree, if possible when we set up and sound check we tend to wear jeans and a band t shirt, almost act like the bands stage crew. Then hopefully we can make a big entrance when we get in to costume. That's with Metaltech, but it's very similar to how it goes with the wedding band, just very different stage attire. -

I think image is very important, anything that sets you apart from everyone else is good. Most people have no idea about music, you need to grab their attention with image, performance and anything else that makes you a better option than staying at home watching tv. Sold a pedal to Eddie recently, instant payment and great communication. Great guy to deal with. Cheers Eddie.

I'm not judging your reaction, but you have to remember that just because you don't want to be in 2 bands you can't stop others doing it. I totally understand your reaction, I often have to take a step back from a situation and try and judge it without emotion. I play in a 2 bands, one an original 3 piece and one a busy wedding band. Unfortunately for me the wedding band pays the bills, so in some respects it's more important. I can get a dep for the wedding band, but my normal rule is who ever books me first gets me. This can be changed if I can't get a dep, or if the original band get an important gig that has to be played. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but like anything the key to keeping everyone happy is communication and honesty. I do sometimes feel hurt when the guys do an interview, or a remix or a recording or anything really without me, of course it's usually because I'm gigging, or they assume I am. At times like this I try to remember that they are getting on with what needs to be done, and that they are entitled to do whatever they want. If your band mates (friends?) Want to get their own band together, either for a one off or even permanently, it has nothing to do with you or your band, it's certainly not a sign of any lack of commitment. As long as all their warm up gigs don't clash with your bands gigs, and they keep you updated when they are booked you can't really complain, even if you want to. As an aside, I generally find most good gigs for original bands are week nights, nobody wants to showcase their own material to drunk weekend party people. The only real exception to this is festival gigs, but their band won't be doing festivals for a while yet. So hopefully there never will be too many problems.

Paulo Nuitini, just learning a song for a wedding, and started listening to the album. He's got a really nice bass player.

All my fivers are 34 inch, but I would like to try a 35. I don't think the extra length would be a problem, does it really make the B feel much better?

Ernie Ball call their 45, 65, 85, 105 set hybrid, this is a fairly common set, but EB have a light 45-100 or medium 50-105, and their hybrid is a mix of both.

Has anyone got the dimensions of Roscoe Beck 5 string pickups, looking for the footprint dimensions and the measurements for the pole pieces and the stick out bits for the screws. If anyone who has one could measure it I'd very much appreciate it.

I just picked up a new Modern player Jazz 5, I really like the way it plays and I love the string spacing. I am not too keen on the sound though, it's just a little low gain and lacks punch, admittedly my main bass is a Stingray 5 HH, so I realise I can't compare them. I'm wondering about what to change, I think I'll start with a new preamp first, probably a John East but I'll figure that out later. It certainly is great to play, so I think it will be worth working on the sound.

I have a friend, who is not famous, but has a deal with Ashdown. They have told me they prefer Gallien Kreuger, but the Ashdown deal is worth a lot to a working musician.

That looks great.

Sounds like it could be a problem with the pickup earth, if the noise stops when you earth the pups off another metal part. If you replace your hand with a wire and run an earth from the pickup to the back of a pot it might cure it. Though I might be totally wrong, just an idea.

It depends on my gig, in the wedding band I always use my own amp, but in the original band it really depends. I almost always bring my own head, or small combo to a gig, but often for short gigs with a few bands I use the house gear or one ore the other bands stuff. Sometimes I let other bands use my gear, but it depends on the band. I need my gear to be working or I can't play wedding gigs, and they pay the bills. I've only played one venue who wouldn't let me use my own rig, initially when I heard this I was a bit confused, but once I arrived I understood. The Moorings bar in Aberdeen has a great in house setup, an ampeg, a Marshall and some other nice guitar amp and drum kit. It's all on stage in position to get the most out of the space and save time setting up. Because of that and an engineer who knew what he was doing, it was my favourite small(ish) venue I've ever played.

It sounds like an earth problem, most likely there will be a loose or broken wire inside. If you can solder it should be a very easy fix.

G&L L5500, the ongoing saga of what to do with it.
EmmettC replied to EmmettC's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have 3 spaces, so could potentially have 3 switches, which would be enough for a 2 x series/parallel switches, and 1 switch to coil tap both pickups. Or would it be more sensible to have a seperate coil tap for each pickup and not bother with series/parallel switches? This would also make it easier to switch the tone pot out for a stacked 2 band preamp in the future. Are there any other options I'm not thinking of? I don't want to drill or route the body, but I could make a new cover for the rear cavity and fit sliding switches..... All ideas welcome. -
Another vote for Bareknuckle, though I've only used their guitar pickups. Seymour Duncan do a vintage p pickup that should fit.
(imho i would rather cut off my own gentleman's part with a rusty breadknife than use one, they just aint for me)
Haha, I'm not a fan of them either, but given the choice I'll keep my gentleman's part.
Good enough for many of the world's current biggest bands ie. Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, U2, Radiohead, Elbow, The Who......... But not you.
In his/her opinion, yes not good enough. And just because Adam Clayton says it's good doesn't mean it is. I was actually coming to say that the peavey combo that seems to live in every rehearsal room is the only bad thing I've used, but you just reminded me that an Ashdown 4x10 I had was so bad I almost sold my SWR head, luckily I tried it with a decent cab and realised it was the ashdown that was the problem before I dumped it.
