  1. I can't really trust my opinion here as I tend to run strings for a very long time (like over a year), so any string change feels like an upgrade! I'd need to try a fresh set of both strings without a huge amount of time in-between to make a fair comment. But I think these felt looser and sounded more lively as a result, and have lasted longer too. Also I got a 4-string set for free (D'Addario promotion on BC when they first came out), they were sat in a drawer for a couple of years until I found a tapered NYXL B string for sale on here to add to the set. The low B sounds much more defined than I'm used to, not sure if that's the string in general or the fact it's tapered, but I will try and hunt down another!
  2. @Al Krow have you tried the NYXLs? If not, ask Santa for some!
  3. Tech21 VTDI - the Leeds is very hard to find, doesn't have a blend, and the VT sounds very similar anyway! For those specific examples you gave, I don't think you could do any better.
  4. It's great for really heavy distortion, but not so great for low gain drive - it's pretty filthy even at low gain! Sounds like a RAT or OCD type of sound, but unlike most of those pedals, the crossover keeps the lows solid whilst also reducing the lows being fed to the distortion side to keep it tight sounding! It'll be back on the classifieds soon though along with most of my collection, some variant of Sansamp is all I really need and use!
  5. I have one of his builds: mini-XO (homestead.com) Built in crossover so the drive just affects the highs!
  6. With a T-Bird, if you just run the strap over the front of the bass, it pushes down on the lower bout and neck dive is non-existent. It just sticks in place and doesn't budge!
  7. @mika77270 The Yamaha store in London has a BB2024 and BB2024X listed. Crazy prices, but they do price match, and they’ve probably had them for a long time and struggling to sell alongside the cheaper P34 - so if they really want to clear them, they will probably do you a deal!
  8. Depends where you're trying to get the muff to sit in the mix - if you want it to cut through the upper mids then you'll struggle - turn the tone up too much and you lose low end. However, leave the tone around noon or below and you'll completely dominate the low end and low mids - it'll be heavy AF but more like a low rumbling growl that stands out in its own way down low rather than 'cutting through'. I had to experience the EHX Green Russian at high volume before I could appreciate it!
  9. Not all pedals are happy running in an FX loop at line level. This might be one of those pedals! Most bassists just run their FX straight into the amp, as we don't tend to rely on preamp colouration/overdrive as much as guitarists. So if your amp is pretty clean and neutral, I'd just forget the FX loop personally. It's worth trying a buffer beforehand, but my Phase 90 works just as well with a passive instrument plugged in vs having a preamp pedal just before it... and the FX loop situation should be fairly similar to the preamp pedal situation, just perhaps with a higher volume level. Do you hear any distortion coming from the Phase 90?
  10. The EBS ones seem slighty more sturdy but there's not much in it. Both suffer from the same issue of having poor shielding around the plugs though, so in certain rooms they can be a major contributor to noise. I went back to cables with full metal plugs, as I had too much buzzing practicing at home with a dimmer switch on in the room with the flat cables.
  11. ... and you get overdrive, phaser, and filter effects with the HX, along with better signal routing, crossovers, etc!
  12. I found the Small Stone pretty intense and dark sounding, it does really well in a blender though to add a bit of dry back in. If this was your primary aim also, then that might be a simpler route to get what you want. I sold it in the end to be replaced by a standard block logo MXR Phase 90 as it had more clarity, but I do miss the Small Stone!
  13. @stewblack - did I sell you my Bass Whammy? That has a detune chorus setting too that you might like to try.
  14. I'm not sure, but by eyeballing it alone, it looks like it might be 70s Jazz spacing (that puts the bridge pup closer to the bridge than usual), and the MM slightly north of the sweet spot.
  15. Nice, I always fancied a bass with this pickup layout, but only Atelier Z seemed to produce them!
  16. That's spectacular. Another slice of classic Hoff:
  17. I'd just post the results to the thread now that it's been up for a while. #1, which seems to be most people's favourite, is quite surprising and not even a chorus pedal!
  18. Love my P & flats into the Tonehammer DI, the amp is even better as the drive control is equivalent to the AGS switch but more variable!
  19. I'd like to know the results - I say keep #1 and chuck the rest!
  20. TC Mojomojo with my P Bass for a vintage Motown kind of sound. Tech21 YYZ or DuG for more modern rock sounds with my BB1025X. I don't really need any other pedals!
  21. Even if you just use drive and compression, one of these units can work out cheaper than separates if you like crossover bi-amping like the DuG pedal/amp, and then you get all the possibilities of using various guitar amps on the top end!
  22. I'd go for a Ryzen rather than Intel, more cores per £, which really helps with video.
