1. The Barefaced Retro 210 is designed to be used in either orientation, but if stacked vertically results in a bottom ported cab. I've always wondered if this would be problematic having read comments against placing rear ported cabs close to walls?
2. Sounds like you want to add a bridge pickup?
3. I'd be interested in trying a Cali Compact Bass compressor if you stocked one! I'm sure that would be a popular one around here too, enough for the investment to pay for itself.
4. I wasn't a fan of the isobaric cabs - very heavy, not much clarity, and they take a lot of power to drive. Only thing going for it was that it was very small with incredible amounts of low end.
5. Assuming you want tubes I would say Orange AD200 or a Matamp... Or if you want tube grind on the cheap, buy my Tech 21 VT500!
6.
That should be Head for Vanderkley cabs!
Freudian slip?
7. Just gave it a quick bash! VERY thick and heavy, just like the TFR with a bit more upper mids. It can deal with me pegging the low B on my loud passive Yamaha BB, which overloads the front end of most other muffs I've tried except the TFR and BBM. Massive lows, they thump nicely too, I wouldn't need to use a blend with this. Even playing with a pick that normally sounds thin and trebly, you get a massive sub bass punch using this. One difference I noticed to the BBM, if I dig in hard on that pedal with both PJ pickups on, it produces a nice overdrive like growl. On the Russian it just sounds the same but louder and heavier, like this is your tone now and you ain't changing it! Not necessarily a bad thing either. It gets my seal of approval anyway, I'll stick it on the board for a bit and see how it fares in a full band mix!
8. Thanks everyone, I've ordered the Maplin one. I have plenty of space for cables elsewhere, I just want something compact that can survive being knocked about in the back of a van!
9. You want a B7K for that sound mate. Cleaner and crisper than the Alpha Omega. The BDDI will do nicely as well.
10. I'd look for camera pouches, bound to be one out there with a belt clip/loop. I just keep mine on the desk though and don't have a need to attach it to me.
11.
Reckon it's a bit heavy for that really. Currently I have a 'Noels Bass Mycro' 9v headphone amp that I dangle from the socket and it's not very neat (plus the thing produces a bit of hiss and doesn't have an Aux input)
I wasn't being serious
12. Found this one too: http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Instrument-Case/40-8469
13. I use mine with a pair of Ampeg SVT210AVs in a vertical stack. Cheap and lightweight, although I would probably swap them for a pair of Barefaced Retro 210s given the chance! The great thing about a vertical stack like this is it takes up hardly any room on stage, you get speakers firing at your ears as well as your knees, and it's supposed to be better for dispersion than side by side placement of a typical 410. Downside is it's an accident waiting to happen if the band or the crowd are a bit rowdy! Maybe I should invest in some guy ropes...
14. In an opposite fashion, you could use a pedal coupler to have the PJB Bighead dangling out of your jack socket with no patch cables if that's your thing too!
15.
Maplin is your friend here. They do a number of Aluminium Cases with foam interiors that you can easily customise to the size you want. Price varies from £25 -£35. I've got 2 of them. https://www.maplin.c...-interior-n50fu
Cheers that one looks good!
16. What kind of hard cases are you guys using for you guys using for your micro amps? Just picked up a Darkglass M900 (26.7 x 23 x 6.4 cm / 10.5 x 9.05 x 2.52 in) and don't want to pay £85 for the official bag which doesn't look all that great. I'm after something with a bit more protection like a hard case with foam, before I search and wade through the possibilities does anyone have any solid recommnedations? TIA
17. There's that saying - buy cheap, buy twice! (Or thrice) The PJB Bighead is a lot more expensive but worth it. Definitely an item I'd never sell!
18. I guess it depends on the tunes you are playing, as there are plenty of classic rock tracks that feature rather prominent and agressive roundwound tones. If you are playing a mixed bag and only want to take one instrument, it's easier to approximate the flatwound sound via the tone control than to try and coax a roundwound clang from flats!
19. I think we've already veered this thread off topic for long enough, but the Alpha Omega set to pure Alpha, max blend and min gain has been the perfect sound when going direct. Through the headphones it sounds better than any modeller I've played with before, I'd be happy recording using just that and nothing else! I've owned a VMTD and B7K before so know what to expect. One area where I think the Two Notes falls down is that top end can be quite harsh, but the cab sim is way too dark when engaged. The Darkglass stuff has a built in treble roll off that's kind of a halfway house, removing the fizz without adding mud, so it sounds great through the amp as well as the PA. I have an OmniCabSim I can throw into the mix as well so plenty tools to experiment with. Nothing like a new project to induce GAS, eh?
20. Your signal chain is all over the shop!
21. I don't even have the new amp yet but there's no way I'm selling the Terror! Best lightweight amp ever for blues/classic rock/motown, matched only by the Aguilar Tone Hammer IMHO! Just want a brighter, overdriven yet articulate sound for this new venture.
22. I'm hoping the VMT side of the M900 will make the Le Bass redundant in my setup... I'm basically just using it as an always-on pre to transform the sound of my Orange, so hoping I can just get the amp sound right at the amp end instead!
23. The Vulcan's on there still! I'm using a Yammy BB1025X into an Orange Terror. Looking to switch amps though, which will probably mean the pedals will change too!
24. I expect the pedal needs a little less then 500 and the supply can put out a little more than 300, probably 400 then! I don't think I'll change my description just yet seeing as I spent the best part of a day fiddling with my pedalboard! Genre is heavy rock, with a sprinkling of stoner rock and grunge. Early days yet, not even certain I'm officially in yet, played with them once last week and doing so again this week!
