1.
Maplin is your friend here. They do a number of Aluminium Cases with foam interiors that you can easily customise to the size you want. Price varies from £25 -£35. I've got 2 of them. https://www.maplin.c...-interior-n50fu
Cheers that one looks good!
2. What kind of hard cases are you guys using for you guys using for your micro amps? Just picked up a Darkglass M900 (26.7 x 23 x 6.4 cm / 10.5 x 9.05 x 2.52 in) and don't want to pay £85 for the official bag which doesn't look all that great. I'm after something with a bit more protection like a hard case with foam, before I search and wade through the possibilities does anyone have any solid recommnedations? TIA
3. There's that saying - buy cheap, buy twice! (Or thrice) The PJB Bighead is a lot more expensive but worth it. Definitely an item I'd never sell!
4. I guess it depends on the tunes you are playing, as there are plenty of classic rock tracks that feature rather prominent and agressive roundwound tones. If you are playing a mixed bag and only want to take one instrument, it's easier to approximate the flatwound sound via the tone control than to try and coax a roundwound clang from flats!
5. I think we've already veered this thread off topic for long enough, but the Alpha Omega set to pure Alpha, max blend and min gain has been the perfect sound when going direct. Through the headphones it sounds better than any modeller I've played with before, I'd be happy recording using just that and nothing else! I've owned a VMTD and B7K before so know what to expect. One area where I think the Two Notes falls down is that top end can be quite harsh, but the cab sim is way too dark when engaged. The Darkglass stuff has a built in treble roll off that's kind of a halfway house, removing the fizz without adding mud, so it sounds great through the amp as well as the PA. I have an OmniCabSim I can throw into the mix as well so plenty tools to experiment with. Nothing like a new project to induce GAS, eh?
6. I don't even have the new amp yet but there's no way I'm selling the Terror! Best lightweight amp ever for blues/classic rock/motown, matched only by the Aguilar Tone Hammer IMHO! Just want a brighter, overdriven yet articulate sound for this new venture.
7. I'm hoping the VMT side of the M900 will make the Le Bass redundant in my setup... I'm basically just using it as an always-on pre to transform the sound of my Orange, so hoping I can just get the amp sound right at the amp end instead!
8. The Vulcan's on there still! I'm using a Yammy BB1025X into an Orange Terror. Looking to switch amps though, which will probably mean the pedals will change too!
9. I expect the pedal needs a little less then 500 and the supply can put out a little more than 300, probably 400 then! I don't think I'll change my description just yet seeing as I spent the best part of a day fiddling with my pedalboard! Genre is heavy rock, with a sprinkling of stoner rock and grunge. Early days yet, not even certain I'm officially in yet, played with them once last week and doing so again this week!
10.
I'm trying to move my skill set from folk/pop in the direction of some hard rock and melodic metal. I would prefer a five string bass, but I'm open for awesome four strings as well.
Dingwall NG-2 is equivalent or only slightly less dough than the Sandberg, but is definitely worth consideration. The fanned frets give the low B a very long scale length so it's as clear as a bell and records great. I'm lusting after one myself. I would also look at the Yamaha BB range and see what Ibanez have to offer, there are some very nice basses with Nordstrand big singles, which are very meaty Jazz pickups.
11. New band, new board! Chain is tuner, Thumpinator, Discumbobulator, Effectrode PC-2A, Vulcan, TAFM, Le Bass, then Carbon Copy and Phase 90 (in the fx loop of the Le Bass). All sitting on a PT Metro 24 and powered by a Cioks DC5 underneath.
12. You only need a polarity reversing adapter if the pins in the power supply or socket are wired the opposite way around. Attach one to the wrong pedal and you could fry it. Most pedal power supplies are centre negative, but most supplies for general equipment are centre positive. I assume the poster above found a random 12V PSU and stuck an adapter on the end to make it usable with the Le Bass. I've heard others complaining of noise with their stock power supplies, fortunately this did not affect me, perhaps I got a different model since I bought it from Thomman and it's a European plug. Btw my Cioks DC5 powers it just fine even though it's supposed to need 500mA and the supply only delivers 300. I'm glad I ignored your request to sell it to you as I've just joined a band and it's now on the board!
13. Have you tested with the compressor as the only pedal in the chain?
14. Used mine direct to a mixer for a headphone jam/audition with a new band last night. Worked very well indeed, I can see this being my core tone (alpha side, minimum gain). Lots of experimenting with stacking combos to be done!
15. Just ordered the EHX. Initial reports from over the pond are very positive, at least one person had replaced their Wren & Cuff TFR with one!

Cab simulator
Just to clarify (as I've just moved to DI my board...) If using fuzz would you consider it essential to use a cab simulator? I'm gonna be running my pedals into the Ampeg Classic Analog Preamp pedal then direct into a passive DI with no cab sim. I'm worried that I'll end up getting the evils from the sound guy at gigs...
Totally depends on the pedal and how much top end fizz it puts out, e.g. DI a Boss ODB3 and it will sound like a jar of angry bees. If you're talking about the Ampeg SCR DI, then I understand it has a speaker sim or low pass filter already built in. A decent sound man may be able to low pass your signal to around 5k for you if you talk to them anyway!
17.
How bizarre is all this? I get the impression that a number of posters on this thread don't actually have children. The only answer that will actually get you anywhere is, "What/who do you like listening to? Fine, play along with that then." If I'd asked my father what to listen to if I wanted to hear great basslines, I'd have spent the next 20 years listening exclusively to Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra. Your kids don't want to listen to "your" music. That's part of being your kids.
If I'd have listened to my Dad I would have ended up listening to Sabbath, Zep, Deep Purple, Rush and Yes. I ignored him and listed to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth and RATM!
18. It also sounds great set to 100% alpha, 0% gain as a dirty amp sim into headphones (or a PA). Just the right level of gain to fatten things up yet get very gnarly if you dig in. Slotted into the mix perfectly and no additional speaker sim required! 👍
19. Check out the Fender/Squier Duo Sonics or Mustangs perhaps? Quite a few to choose from here too: https://www.thomann....le_guitars.html https://www.gak.co.uk/en/mini-and-travel-guitars
20. Very Mike Kerr, UKLooney! You found the humbucker you were looking for then, where did you get it in the end, The Creamery?
21. Bargain. Just bad timing as I paid way more than that for one just a few weeks ago!
22. This might be controversial for all you Marus fans, but in my opinion there's something very off putting about the body shape of those Jakes. The original Fender shape is beautiful, a design classic. I don't know but perhaps it makes good use of the 'Golden Ratio', French curves and all that. The Jake looks like someone tried to make a Precision template drawn freehand in one attempt just from memory. I'm not saying all P/J clones need to faithfully copy the original. For instance the new Sandberg shapes I find very nice indeed!
